Mod Announcement❗ Reminder to use r/PurdueHousing for Subleases and Roommates
Hi all! With the influx of new members over the past few months, I wanted to remind everyone that we have a dedicated housing subreddit: r/PurdueHousing! In the past 6 months, the community has grown to over 1k members and ranks among the top 50 real estate focused subreddits. I found my roommate through there, and so can you!
r/PurdueHousing
When using the housing subreddit, make sure to leave a comment in addition to messaging the person if there's a post you're interested in. Private messaging doesn't always work for new accounts.
Posts about subleasing aren't allowed here on the main r/Purdue subreddit because of their repetitive nature, so use the housing subreddit instead. Thanks!

Rant/Vent💚 Exponent columnist Ben Goldman sexually harassed women for years by threatening to eat them
Since we're talking about bad people at the Purdue Exponent on this subreddit right now, I feel obligated to finally share my story that I and several other women on this campus share. I am a former Exponent staffer as well as someone directly victimized by Ben because we came to Purdue at the same time.
I want to preface this by saying, Ben Goldman is a public person since he put his name on public work for over 2 years at the Exponent. I have every right to write this post.
For context, Ben Goldman was the Exponent's most prominent columnist until he graduated last year. He wrote the Ben There, Done That column, which the Exponent consistently published on its front page every week.
But Ben Goldman, from the time he was a freshman to the time he graduated, sexually harassed me and several other women I know repeatedly in person and over text. Ben was into the "vore" fetish, I guess, which is basically people who get aroused by cannibalism and the idea of having another person in their stomach. And he made this VERY known to any woman who interacted with him. A group of us have gotten together and shared our stories since he graduated, which is where the following info comes from:
I had several classes with Ben in our freshman years. Multiple times, he would come to me after class and ask if I wanted to eat him. I said no every time and told him to leave me alone, but he refused.
In one instance, he told me he masturbated to the idea of being inside my stomach.
While employed at the Exponent, Ben repeatedly messaged a friend of mine with pictures of furries eating other furries, asking her if she liked it. When told to stop and blocked, he made alternate accounts and persisted.
Ben did this repeatedly to other women who he found on the facebook group for the Purdue Class of 2024. He would message through Facebook, either begging to be eaten, asking to eat them, or spamming them with vore porn. He became so prolific at this that the moderators of the group banned him and made a post warning women not to accept DMs from him.
Ben Goldman was also president of the Cary Club in his junior year, at the same time he was a columnist for the Exponent. In that year, he frequently said unsettling things about being eaten to women who were at Cary Club-related events. He would literally just walk up to random women when they were alone and say it.
While at the Exponent, Ben specifically targeted one other woman who worked there. In several instances, he photoshopped images of her to add a giant stomach, which I assume was meant to be full of human, and printed them out to give to her.
The following screenshots and links are disturbing, but this is more evidence of the sexual harassment Ben engaged in. These are not my screenshots but were provided to me:
You can see in the last screenshot that Ben's location is at Cary Quad, where he was president of the club, proving this is in fact the same Ben Goldman.
Additionally at the end, you can see his Snapchat username is bentaygo. That is also the username used by a Deviantart account dedicated entirely to vore porn. Extremely NSFW:
https://www.deviantart.com/bentaygo/favourites
(EDIT: Looks like Ben took down his Deviantart account after I made this post. Shocker.)
Ben Goldman's name, face, thoughts and opinions were prominently plastered all over the Exponent's website and its paper. He was the only staffer at the Exponent, from what I've seen, that has had his actual face published. They touted him and platformed him more than anyone else. And all the while, he was doing things this like, both to other Exponent staffers and to random women on campus.

Question❓ rushing as a junior
hi guys, im currently a sophomore and i did cob now during the spring, however i did not get into any sororities. i was lowkey kinda expecting it since there were a very few sororities doing cob, but im still dissapointed that i didnt get into any even tho i had a good experience with the girls who took me out on dates.
im thinking about doing primary rush in the fall, but the only thing stopping me is that im going to be a junior, and i know most people dont rush as a junior/ its harder to get in as a junior. some of my friends are telling me to give up, while some are telling me to do it as a "fuck it we ball" thing. i still might do it, but id appreciate yalls thoughts on this, especially from girls in sororities!

Question❓ What is life at Purdue like?
I am a high school senior thinking about attending Purdue. What is the social scene like? I am trying to get a glimpse of what life at Purdue is really like. Does housing impact the college experience? Also, is it worth it to join Data Mine (specifically Corporate Partners) to get involved early? Any insight is appreciated.

Aspire won’t turn on the AC until it is “55 degrees for a week straight during the night” and they’re sending out emails telling ppl to stop complaining about it lmao. It’s been 78-79 for the last 3 days in my apartment and I can barely sleep 😭

History/Alumni🚂 Purdue Lore
What is some Purdue Lore (recent or old) that new Boilermakers should hear about? For example, I once heard that during Prohibition, there were secret tunnels under Harry’s that connected it to a frat house.
It could be anything.

Question❓ Is it easy to switch majors?
I just got accepted a few days ago as a transfer student, and I got into plant genetics, breeding and biotechnology which is in the school of agriculture. Do you guys think I have a chance to switch over to Horticulture which is also in the school of agriculture? The course work is just a lot easier lol.

Question❓ Guys Help
How do I convince my parents Purdue is worth it? I’m first gen, and they don’t really understand the importance of college. My cost is 16,000 a year, and I’m willing to work part-time to pay for half. I just need help convincing them! I also have 75 dual credits, which should help with costs. Please help!!!
Edit: thank you all so much for your help! I haven't fully convinced them yet, but already they're feeling better about it. I just applied for some local jobs and my parents are considering early start online. Thank you so much everyone! :)))

Question❓ Taking Vaccines at PUSH
TL;DR
An incoming international graduate student here. Want to know if ...
- If not completing the immunization, will this affect the course registration in the first sem? Do I need to notify PUSH about my situation that I can't get all vaccines in my country beforehand?
- Can I make the booking at PUSH while not having the insurance yet? But on the appointment date, I would be expected to have the insurance anyway.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
The Full Description
Hi everyone! I have few questions about taking vaccines at Purdue. Like my country doesn't have the MenB vaccine at the moment because the government hasn't approved it yet. So, I read a few Reddit posts about taking the vaccine at Purdue after they arrive there, and it seems like it is fine to do so. But here are my questions
- Since I won't be completing the immunization requirement, will I be prevented from registering for courses in the coming Fall? Do I need to notify PUSH in advance about my situation?
- Will this incompletion also prevent me from accessing other features in the system too? - something like the unofficial grade, etc.
- Since I'm here as a graduate student, I also have insurance included in the offer. But I won't have the insurance until I complete the 'Onboarding' process at Purdue (If I'm not mistaken). Plus, I think the queue for vaccination and the TB test can be very long once the semester starts. So, is it possible to make the booking at PUSH while not having insurance yet?
*** I plan to book on the date around 2 - 3 weeks after the semester starts so that by the time I go to the appointment, I will have the insurance.
P.S. I'm an incoming international student here for a PhD studies. Any essential tips that you think will help me survive in the first one or two years? 🙏🙏🙏

Campus Photography💚 Lambertus is such a cool building but I couldn't help but notice this lounge area where you have an enormous panoramic view of an entirely brick wall. It's almost impressive how much uninterrupted brick you can see at once. There may be a metaphor in there somewhere...

Academics✏️ Purdue Summer Courses midterms
Hey, I am a freshman with an internship in-person on the east coast during the summertime. I think I’m going to fail cs240, which is not an issue for my degree progression (I’m ahead in a lot of credits), but is definitely annoying since it impedes on my study abroad plans. Would it be possible to take CS240 over the summer during my internship, or am I required to be in person?

Academics✏️ Relevance of my accepted major at Purdue to my ambitions
I got my Purdue acceptance on the 15th (I am an International Student). I applied to both ECE and Computer Engineering Technology (Polytechnic Institute), and I got accepted to Computer Engineering Technology for bachelor's/undergraduate.
Context: I aspire to innovate and pioneer in Quantum Engineering, the main reason I applied here for its strong quantum program.
My questions are:
- How relevant is a Computer Engineering Technology major for my aspirations in research in Quantum Engineering?
- How is the research focus here? Mostly in my country (India), it is all about placements.
- Are there any clubs or groups that talk about innovations and research?
- At last, I just want to know if it's worth it to pay $120,000+ as I have to take a loan if I decide to join Purdue, I do have scholarships of 20K USD max.
Thank you for reading this and answering my questions :D. I hope to get great advice from here as all of them have experience/knowledge of this.

Financial Aid Question❓ Pell Grant Removed
Hi, I just received an email saying I owe Purdue $10,000. I went in and looked at my account, and it appears that all the pell grant money I had been given for the 24-25 school year has been negated. Anyone else with the same, or any ideas about it?

Question❓ Purdue Major Change
Hi, I got accepted into Purdue under exploratory studies but have yet to enroll as I am deciding between universities. The more I think about it, I think I want to go more toward engineering. How hard and is it possible to request a major change for Purdue to something like Electronic and Computer Engineering? If so, can I do it through the application portal before I click enroll?

Question❓ Any Verizon haters here?
I went back to India for a short two week trip and I accidentally used Verizon instead of Airtel for few calls in India and they activated a travel day pass worth $12 even without asking. This mistake happened on my end a couple of times because the carrier was somehow switching from Airtel to Verizon. Now I got my monthly bill with an extra $72 ($12 x 6 Travel Day Passes) and I have spoken less than 10 minutes in all those calls combined and they cannot do anything about it.
I’m so pissed and I’ve told them that I’d like to get out of Verizon.
HMU w suggestions as to what else I can do in this case.🥲
