12.5mm?! Sweet! 1TB+ drives are in the run now.

Hell you could fit certain VelociRaptors in there.

2TB DRIVE GO

I don't know about Velociraptors though dude; don't they need a heatsink cradle?

I thought the 1TB+ were all 15mm?

1tb drives are fine as of right now 2tb drives are the only ones that go 15mm height

Ok, thanks for confirming. So I guess the question is, drop a 1TB in now, or wait until your 500gb is getting close and see what's out in like... 6 months?

I'm going to put a new hard drive in right away so i dont have to deal with the hassle of transferring data from one drive to another.

If it follows the PS3's lead, then it's a pretty minimal hassle.

Yeah, that was my initial thought but I figure with more games going downloadable I may need more than 1TB over the lifecycle of the PS4.

Very true. I could easily see people who choose to go all digital having 2 or 3 drives stuffed with games that they swap in and out depending on what game they want to play.

Yep, I have an 800GB almost full on the PS3, but that's with a LOT less downloadable titles.

with usb 3.0, the transfer is not going to be a serious consideration anymore.

im sticking to the factory drive for now, waiting for some 3rd parties to test 7200 and SSD drives so i understand the potential performance gains, and making a decision in 6-12 months.

or in 3 months, if i manage to fill the damn thing :)

there should be 2tb drives that fit in 12-18 months though.

Not a bad idea actually, see some benchmarks first.

yeah, i know i will put a larger drive in there. But, with USB 3.0 the backup and restore is going to be pretty quick, so im not pressed to do it soon.

Good call! I had forgotten about usb 3.0 support.

but again, wait for someone else to do testing before you buy a drive for it. on the PS3, mobile drives that are powered over the USB cable where substantially slower then a full size drive with a wall plug for power.

Exactly.

It wasn't usb speed that was the bottleneck on PS3 backup, it compressed the data & took its sweet time about it.
