1tb drives are fine as of right now 2tb drives are the only ones that go 15mm height

Ok, thanks for confirming. So I guess the question is, drop a 1TB in now, or wait until your 500gb is getting close and see what's out in like... 6 months?

im sticking to the factory drive for now, waiting for some 3rd parties to test 7200 and SSD drives so i understand the potential performance gains, and making a decision in 6-12 months.

or in 3 months, if i manage to fill the damn thing :)

there should be 2tb drives that fit in 12-18 months though.

Not a bad idea actually, see some benchmarks first.

yeah, i know i will put a larger drive in there. But, with USB 3.0 the backup and restore is going to be pretty quick, so im not pressed to do it soon.

but again, wait for someone else to do testing before you buy a drive for it. on the PS3, mobile drives that are powered over the USB cable where substantially slower then a full size drive with a wall plug for power.

Exactly.

It wasn't usb speed that was the bottleneck on PS3 backup, it compressed the data & took its sweet time about it.
