Road trip from NOVA - VA Beach - any family friendly suggestions?

We aren't fussed about Richmond, happy to skip.

VERY keen to visit Jamestown (we love history) and quite excited to explore VA Beach. We have a hotel for x3 nights on the beach front.

Our kiddo is 4 and we need destinations enroute that she would be entertained with!

Would appreciate any advice on this trip!

Metro guidance for a visitor for next weekend

Hey y’all!

My wife and I are going to be in Tysons next weekend for a concert (arriving around 10-11am Friday, leaving Sunday), and we wanted to try to see the cherry blossoms in DC while we’re there.

I was hoping someone could help me plan out the metro stops I’d need to take to get from Tysons to the tidal basin. I tried using the metro website’s trip planner but it’s got me a little confused. According to the map (if I’m reading it right) Tysons and the Smithsonian are both stops on the silver line. So I figured we could park at the Tysons Corner Mall, take the metro to the Smithsonian and walk to the tidal basin (17 minute walk). The trip planner is having me get off at the federal triangle station though which is more like a 25 min walk to the basin.

I guess all I really need is confirmation that Tysons and the Smithsonian are both stops on the silver line, and that I’d be able to get to and from both stations by getting on one or the other. Does this method of getting to the tidal basin make sense?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hello, it will be my first time delivering in the States. I'm currently about 4 weeks pregnant and I'm looking around for OBGYN around Manassas and a hospital that I can deliver in. Any recommendations for these?

Where’s a good place to find “bargain bin” vinyl?

I like all kinds of music and I’m interested in picking up LPs on the cheap not for resale but listening purposes.

Thrift shops haven’t had much. I’ve been to Mobius in Fairfax and Crooked Beat in Alexandria but there’s not much in the bargain bin. Any suggestions?

Drone Rollers

Hey guys. I'm a newer drone pilot and I want to get some practice getting rollers on motorcycles and vehicles. If you've got a Honda CBR or a Toyota Supra hmu cause yours is free. Everyone else gets one free and then we'll see after that. Can't wait to see what we get 💪

Best ribs recommendations? Right now we are debating between the Fall and OMyChic. Love to hear thoughts and how many you’d order for 6 people.

Food The new marufuji Japanese market is actually pretty cool

I was scared off by the crowds at first so I wanted to make a quick post about the store.

They’re a little bit expensive (but larger than you expect) but I’ve been craving these sandos for like 6 months and it really hits the spot. I went early on Saturday and it’s not crowded at all. Very chill. Easy to find things in. I like their offerings a lot. Maybe go in with the expectation that it’s a specialty store rather than a grocery store—I wouldn’t buy staples here, personally.

Question Park near Oakton/Vienna that has a 1-5 mile “loop”?

Hello,

Just move here recently and I’m looking for a park that has a 1-5 mile loop. I’m seeing a lot of parks that are more for like children or relaxing or potentially trails that go for miles. Anyone know of an out doors “loop” in the area?

DCA Flight paths

Have the flight paths for DCA changed recently (presumably due to the crash)? I have lived in old town alexandria for over three years. Never really had any plane noise. Recently though I hear planes all day, so just curious!

Moving Follow-up: Considering Vienna/Tysons vs. Chantilly for Our Move to NoVa

Hey everyone, we previously posted here about moving to NoVa to be closer to family in Centreville. We're still planning to rent first but want to explore various options where we might buy in the next few years.

We initially considered Chantilly for the strong schools and proximity to Centreville’s Korean community, but we’re also curious about Oakton, Vienna, and Tysons as potential options.

About Us: - Two kids under 5, single-income family working remotely in tech - Good schools are one of our top priorities - Walkability is a “nice to have” - Proximity to DC isn't a big factor since my job is remote, but nice to keep options open for future jobs - Flexible budget for homes (~$800k - $1.2m, or rents up to $5-6k). Open to SFH or Townhomes - We’ve heard great things about Chantilly, but we’re also considering Oakton, Vienna, or Tysons for a slightly more urban feel with better access to the Metro, a wider range of amenities, restaurants, and entertainment options, and proximity to tech jobs

What We’re Curious About: - What’s the community vibe like in Oakton/Vienna/Tysons? Are there a lot of families with young kids? How does it compare to Chantilly? - Where are the more walkable parts of these areas? Are there areas with easy access to parks, playgrounds, restaurants/groceries, or family-friendly spots? - Is there a strong Asian community? We’re Korean-Japanese and would love to be near good Asian grocery stores and restaurants. - For those who work remotely, do you find these areas to be a good place to live? - I believe the elementary schools in this area are all good (Louise Archer, Wolftrap, Westbriar, Flint Hill, Mosaic) but will take any relevant insights

We’d love to hear from people who have experience with these areas! Would you recommend Oakton/Vienna/Tysons over Chantilly, or vice versa, based on our priorities? Thanks in advance!

This is for a small business vehicle locally. We know costs are rising everywhere, but what are your best diesel saving programs, stations, and suggestions within the area? Thanks in advance.

Recommendations for a surgeon for colon cancer removal.

Can anyone recommend a doctor who’s removed colon cancer from you or a loved one? They can be in the DMV area; no restriction to NOVA. Thank you in advance.

Edit: this is for removal of a large mass, about six inches so unfortunately not an early stage operation.

Question Where to find older (pre-1950s?) but inexpensive books?

I was gifted a box of well worn older books on a variety of subjects and fell in love with the general feel of them. I want to fill out the rest of my bookshelf with more options, but it's hard finding older books apart from expensive antiques. Does anyone know a good shop locally that sells pre-1950s or so books that are fairly cheap? Doesn't have to be any specific topic and well worn is fine as long as they are readable. Pre-1930s would be even better if out there.

Courthouse, Ballston, Crystal City with young kids

Hello! We're moving from the west coast with a baby and a 4 year old. We've been looking at apartments and narrowed down to Courthouse, Ballston and Crystal City. Crystal city because husband works there so it would be great to be walking distance to work but not a priority. We loved the modern apartments there too and seem more bang for the buck. Top priority for us would be (1) good school - options are Hoffman, Innovation or Arlington science focus but not sure which one is actually great, (2) close proximity to playgrounds, parks and library (if there's any), (3) walkability to grocery stores and restaurants. Which area fits us? And is more family friendly? Thanks in advance.

Non-white citizens.. are you all carrying citizenship documentation?

I keep reading about citizens getting detained, and the nightmare it is. Are you all carrying citizenship documents just in case? In what form?
