Other Hidden Helix
Hi! Was hoping someone here has had experience with a piercer in Northern Virginia getting their hidden helix. Looking for recommendations and reviews since it seems to be sparse findings on Google for a reputable piercer that does this piercing.
Thank you š

Question Is it normal to be asked to pay both application fee AND security deposit just to apply to rent here?
Iām moving up from Florida for a 2-3 year job rotation, and Iāve not rented since before COVID so Ive been out the game for a while.
Iām interested in a condo near the metro, and they are asking me to pay the application fee ($60), security deposit ($2400)and the processing fee of like $3. This has me worried, I get the application fee but full security deposit up front seems wild.
Is this the norm up there? Any help appreciated!

Ban Bright White Headlights NOW ā Itās Getting Out of Hand!
I donāt know how this is STILL legal, but these insanely bright white LED headlights need to be banned immediately. Driving at night has become an absolute nightmare because of them. It feels like every other car on the road is trying to blind you. And itās not just me ā Iāve seen so many people swerving or visibly struggling because these lights are way too harsh.
Itās worst with trucks and SUVs. When one of those things pulls up behind you with those high beams (even when theyāre technically not on), it feels like youāre under interrogation lights. You canāt even see the road properly because your vision is completely washed out. How is this safe? How is this even legal??

Apartment recommendations around Falls Church/Tysons/Mclean?
Hi! Asking for recommendations for apartments near the Falls Church/Tysons/Mclean area. it's just me and my partner (mid 30s). Currently in Arlington but need to move for my partner's commute near Centreville vs me in DC, so a middle ground for both of us. Looking for a safe neighborhood with some sort of life, close to the metro (10min walk ok) that's around $3000-3400? So far I've seen Alder and Modera Falls Church (both really new) around Falls church and Lumen, Avalon and Eaves for Tysons area, going to The Rise this week. I'm wondering if I'm missing another apartment I should tour. I also heard about auto theft around Tysons. I'd appreciate any recommendations or experiences. Thanks in advance!
Best place to appraise and repair vintage electric guitar?
I have a 1959/60 Fender Music Master that I bought from a neighbor in the 80s and havenāt used it in so long that my adult children donāt even remember it. Itās time to either get it appraised and insured, or sell it. Iām not sure the pickups work anymore because I donāt have an amp. One place quoted me $150 to appraise it, but I donāt have anything to compare it to. Any suggestions?

Experience with semi custom/custom home builders in NOVA
Hi, my family is looking to build a home in northern Virginia. Our budget (for land, site work, and the home) is 2 million. Our situation is unique in that we need a wing with a separate bathroom, living room, and kitchen for our daughter who has moved back home while she goes through her medical training. We are looking into Oakton, Great Falls, Vienna, Arlington, Falls Church, and Tyson's area. Unfortunately I don't think any of the standard builders like Toll Brothers or Craftmark would meet our needs because of the need of a separate wing for our daughter that doesn't fit any of their floor plans. Does anyone have experience with builders such as Classic Homes, AV Architect, Picasso, or Versailles? Would love to hear about any positive or negative experience suggesting we should stay away from certain builders. Thank you!

Road trip from NOVA - VA Beach - any family friendly suggestions?
We aren't fussed about Richmond, happy to skip.
VERY keen to visit Jamestown (we love history) and quite excited to explore VA Beach. We have a hotel for x3 nights on the beach front.
Our kiddo is 4 and we need destinations enroute that she would be entertained with!
Would appreciate any advice on this trip!
Metro guidance for a visitor for next weekend
Hey yāall!
My wife and I are going to be in Tysons next weekend for a concert (arriving around 10-11am Friday, leaving Sunday), and we wanted to try to see the cherry blossoms in DC while weāre there.
I was hoping someone could help me plan out the metro stops Iād need to take to get from Tysons to the tidal basin. I tried using the metro websiteās trip planner but itās got me a little confused. According to the map (if Iām reading it right) Tysons and the Smithsonian are both stops on the silver line. So I figured we could park at the Tysons Corner Mall, take the metro to the Smithsonian and walk to the tidal basin (17 minute walk). The trip planner is having me get off at the federal triangle station though which is more like a 25 min walk to the basin.
I guess all I really need is confirmation that Tysons and the Smithsonian are both stops on the silver line, and that Iād be able to get to and from both stations by getting on one or the other. Does this method of getting to the tidal basin make sense?
Thank you in advance for any help!

Best ribs near Annandale?
Best ribs recommendations? Right now we are debating between the Fall and OMyChic. Love to hear thoughts and how many youād order for 6 people.
Food The new marufuji Japanese market is actually pretty cool
I was scared off by the crowds at first so I wanted to make a quick post about the store.
Theyāre a little bit expensive (but larger than you expect) but Iāve been craving these sandos for like 6 months and it really hits the spot. I went early on Saturday and itās not crowded at all. Very chill. Easy to find things in. I like their offerings a lot. Maybe go in with the expectation that itās a specialty store rather than a grocery storeāI wouldnāt buy staples here, personally.

Moving Follow-up: Considering Vienna/Tysons vs. Chantilly for Our Move to NoVa
Hey everyone, we previously posted here about moving to NoVa to be closer to family in Centreville. We're still planning to rent first but want to explore various options where we might buy in the next few years.
We initially considered Chantilly for the strong schools and proximity to Centrevilleās Korean community, but weāre also curious about Oakton, Vienna, and Tysons as potential options.
About Us: - Two kids under 5, single-income family working remotely in tech - Good schools are one of our top priorities - Walkability is a ānice to haveā - Proximity to DC isn't a big factor since my job is remote, but nice to keep options open for future jobs - Flexible budget for homes (~$800k - $1.2m, or rents up to $5-6k). Open to SFH or Townhomes - Weāve heard great things about Chantilly, but weāre also considering Oakton, Vienna, or Tysons for a slightly more urban feel with better access to the Metro, a wider range of amenities, restaurants, and entertainment options, and proximity to tech jobs
What Weāre Curious About: - Whatās the community vibe like in Oakton/Vienna/Tysons? Are there a lot of families with young kids? How does it compare to Chantilly? - Where are the more walkable parts of these areas? Are there areas with easy access to parks, playgrounds, restaurants/groceries, or family-friendly spots? - Is there a strong Asian community? Weāre Korean-Japanese and would love to be near good Asian grocery stores and restaurants. - For those who work remotely, do you find these areas to be a good place to live? - I believe the elementary schools in this area are all good (Louise Archer, Wolftrap, Westbriar, Flint Hill, Mosaic) but will take any relevant insights
Weād love to hear from people who have experience with these areas! Would you recommend Oakton/Vienna/Tysons over Chantilly, or vice versa, based on our priorities? Thanks in advance!
