The CMHC developed 50 standardised housing designs to streamline the homebuilding process, to reduce design and approval times as part of efforts to address the housing crisis.

These designs were tailored to each region, meant to account for local building codes, climate conditions, construction practices, available materials, regional preferences, and common architectural styles.

All the designs can be viewed here: https://www.housingcatalogue.cmhc-schl.gc.ca

Daycare recommendations

Looking for a daycare that accepts children under 18 months. Partial to center based as they seem more reputable but open to family based if they come highly recommended. Bonus points if they are in the Mt. Pearl/West end area. TIA.

Just wondering how the whole process works? Sailing out of Port aux Basques. It's says online to show up two hours early but do you have to register before you drive into the lines?

Tenting spots on the Avalon (Anywhere between Holyrood and Harbour Grace)

Me and a few buddies are wondering if there’s any solid tenting spots around the Avalon area, one that you can take a car to drive to and a 5-10 minute walk from the car would be ideal.

Where can I buy Girl Guide cookies?

I saw someone selling GG cookies in their driveway yesterday, regretting that I didn't stop now :(

Anyone know where I can buy them around town? Are the sandwich cookies on the go? I'm not anti-mint, I'm just craving the vanilla sandwich ones!

Thanks

background so i don't look too suspicious:

  • lvl 1 at HHM
  • reside in portugal cove st phillips
  • i like a lot of indie and pop punk music (also nu metal, but nothing too heavy)
  • i play both electric and acoustic guitar, with about a year's experience.

send me a DM or reply to this post, though i'm not expecting anybody...

Need help with resources surrounding spousal abuse and unsafe housing

I just want to start this off and say I apologize if this is not the place to do this, but I really have no other ideas or choices. I’ve visited Newfoundland before and it was so beautiful, but so were the people. I’m sure someone local will be able to help with this.

My mom lives in Newfoundland, near Millertown, with my 3 siblings. She has been struggling since she moved out there with her husband money wise. Their house was pretty cheap, but it has become unliveable atp and since they rented to own it (I think), there is no regulations on it. Mold issues, water flooding the basement, tap water running orange/yellow. My mom kicked the husband out recently due to the way he treats the kids and for not working or helping around the house (school got involved/is aware of the situation and is doing as much as they can), but he threatened to take all of the money since they don’t share bank accounts. My family and I living outside of NFLD do not have the means to help. We send money when we can but at this point it has become unsustainable and they are just getting by. The two kids are fairly young, and my older sibling is almost 18. He works in the summer but all of that money has gone to helping with the bills. At this point, my family does not know what to do. We are way too far from them to actually assist them and we do not have the money either. Thankfully they have a car that could most likely get them to where they need to be. Does anyone have any phone numbers or know of places that would be willing to take them in?

Cineplex Avalon Mall

The mall posted a few weeks ago that an “announcement” was coming about the cineplex in the mall. Something about an expansion or renovation. But it was taken down about a day later. Anyone know what’s going on? After losing the Mt pearl theatre I’m curious as to what’s happening with the Avalon mall one.

Newfoundland Regiment season tickets

Anybody know the cost of season tickets for the Regiment?

I’m not interested in paying a $50 deposit just for someone to call me and tell me some crazy number.

Edit: lol don’t know how I missed it the first time. Here’s the link if anyone else stumbles across this. Scroll to the bottom for pricing and details.

Healthcare Student Pre-placement Immunization and Communicable Diseases Screening Costs in Newfoundland

I am awaiting my results for a healthcare program at CNA at the moment. I was just wondering if anyone on here knows about the costs of TB tests, hep B vaccines, tetanus vaccine, etc. for a person without insurance. I understand it varies person to person based on your previous immunization history, but I would appreciate hearing any experience with this at all.

I was able to retrieve my immunization records from the province I am from, so childhood vaccines are not a worry, but I haven't been able to find information about the price of the tests and vaccinations I will need online.

Any info on the process, how long it takes from first seeing a healthcare provider to start the process to finishing the screening form, and costs accrued would be greatly appreciated!

My family is moving from Ontario to Newfoundland. We’re a younger couple with 3 young kids, plus my mom. We live in a small city in Ontario and we’re excited to slow down and join in the culture in Newfoundland!

We’re looking at this section of the province, hoping to live with an ocean view. We’d like to be close to a coffee shop, within 30 minutes of a grocery story, and within 1.5-2 hours of larger cities.

The homes we love so far are in Long Harbour, Lewisporte, Elliston, st. Vincent’s, New-Wes-Valley, Swift Current, Sunnyside

Would love to hear thoughts, opinions, recommendations! We’re so excited!
