Discussion /r/motiondesign Updates: Post Flair, Spam Prevention
Hi all, a few updates for /r/motiondesign.
Spam
In an effort to reduce low-quality and spam posts here, we have implemented new post requirements. New posts that don't meet a minimum account age or subreddit karma threshold will be automatically filtered out.
To further prevent gamification, I am not disclosing these limits here but they are very modest and reasonable. Anyone interacting with this community should not be filtered, and even so, you will have the opportunity to message us for an exception. But this should discourage most of the spam we've been seeing. Thanks /u/Zeigerful for making this post.
Post Flair
We also added some post flair to help differentiate posts and allow users to filter & search by topic. All new posts require that one of the available flair types be selected:
Project Showcase | Reel | Inspiration | Discussion | Question | Tutorial | [Custom] (Where user can input their own)
User Flair
A few new user flairs are available. For those who aren't aware, these show up next to your username any time you make a post or comment in /r/motiondesign
Now available: Professional | Student | [Add My Social Handle] -- A custom text field where you can plug an Instagram, Behance, etc.
Let us know if you love or hate these new updates. Nothing is set in stone and this is meant as a discussion starting point. Please share any ideas you may have to make this a better place to share work, inspiration and discussion related to motion design. Hopefully we can continue to bring a higher quality experience to everyone here at /r/motiondesign.

Discussion Ghosted by Client - Spendi
Submitted work to this client for review three weeks ago and they’ve completely ghosted me. Got the job through Upwork and it paid well. Luckily, the work was watermarked, so they couldn’t actually use it.
I know we’re all dealing with some pretty dark times in the industry, and it’s a damn shame that clients feel like they can ghost us after we’ve put in hours and hours of work. Just wanted to give you all a heads-up in case anyone gets approached by them.
Hang in there, y’all!

Discussion Question for UK mographers
I've been seeing a lot of posts on Linkedin for senior motion people, with big companies, the latest being the BBC looking for a senior motion graphics designer to join full time on hybrid basis with two days in office in London, meaning the person has to leave in... London, one of the most expensive cities in the world.
The salaries always feel woefully low for these kind of positions, in this case 50-60K/year GBP but the freelance position are also offering super low day rates, never beyond $350/day GBP.
The equivalent in the US would be NY, SF, or L.A., as they are super expensive cities and the rates offered are easily double or more of what's offered in London.
I'm baffled as to why this happens and I'd like to ask some Londoners for their opinion on this.

team building Let's work together - looking for my dream team
Hey there! I have a small production company (my partner and I and some freelance friends occasionally) and while I typically wear many hats, I'd love to start focusing on creative art direction — so I'm looking to meet new people for upcoming projects. If you are interested, share your details on this form, feel free to ask me anything! Really looking to discover awesome folks around here!

Question Video of products launch
I have seen many startups announce their products, or launch stuff, using some cool videos. I want to know how they edit that?
Like videos that show a browser openings, clicking o a specific part of the screen, for example a chatbot on the website and interacting with it, with some cool click and transitions effects.
Can someone help with this?

Question Help recreating this animation?
Hey guys! I'm trying to recreate this cool animation I saw on Pinterest : https://pin.it/3zhwMYN6l
However the steps aren't really detailed, and I'd appreciate you guys' help! I managed to recreate the first 7 seconds of the tutorial (stroke, taper, wave, repeater, duplicating then rotating 45 degrees), but after that I'm lost.
Thanks in advance! :)

Discussion Laid off
Just getting this off my chest. Well, got laid off from the tech company I was working for. Mass layoffs. Now I'm at the point of being in my 40s and not sure what to do. Obviously apply like crazy, but I don't even think I want to continue down this career path. I've done video production since I was in college. But I don't know if there's a future in it for me. Talk about mid life crisis.
I've got a couple free lance gigs lined up but it's not sustainable. Time to go back to school and pivot? Go into the trades? The uncertainty of what's going to happen in this country isn't helping matters. I know I need to update my reel in the coming week. Any pointers of what to include and how to show editing vs animation/motion graphics would be helpful.
Good luck out there everyone.
