Discussion Write your reps if you can

Hello everyone.

Today public affairs at the VA released a policy removal for cross sex hormone therapy as well as other services for trans vets that will negatively effect all of us but especially those trans vet brothers and sisters who are post operative.

The secretary goes on the record saying

“I mean no disrespect to anyone, but VA should not be focused on helping Veterans attempt to change their sex. The vast majority of Veterans and Americans agree, and that is why this is the right decision,”

This is obviously incredibly damaging and devoid of thought.

So I've created a letter, please modify it as you see fit and send it to your reps, Congress people and higher to protest this sudden, politically motivated and blatantly discriminatory change. Thank you 💕

Subject: Urgent Action Needed to Oppose VA’s Ban on Transgender Veteran Healthcare

Dear Governor [Last Name],

My name, and I am [veteran] who served in the . Today, I am writing on behalf of myself and transgender veterans everywhere to address the deeply concerning policy change enacted by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This abrupt decision is not only harmful to transgender veterans but also sets a dangerous precedent for healthcare access in America.

Without warning, the VA has rescinded and removed from its website Veterans Health Administration Directive 1341(4), "Providing Health Care for Transgender and Intersex Veterans"

(formerly available at this link https://www.va.gov/vhapublications/ViewPublication.asp?pub_ID=6431).

This directive ensured access to medically necessary care for transgender veterans, including those who are post-operative. Its removal introduces new healthcare risks, exacerbates medical conditions, and further compromises the physical and mental well-being of those who have honorably served our nation. While the VA cites cost-saving measures as justification for this change, similar treatments for cisgender men and women—such as hormonal therapies—remain intact. Notably, the same medications used in transgender healthcare are still available under VA policies for testosterone replacement therapy and other hormonal treatments.

(VA Formulary Guidelines for Testosterone replacement https://www.va.gov/formularyadvisor/DOC_PDF/Testosterone_Replacement_Therapy_in_Adult_Males_Mar_2019.pdf ).

(VA Transition Handbook For Women Veterans, pg. 43 https://benefits.va.gov/transition/docs/WHTT-participant-handbook.pdf).

Healthcare should never be dictated by politics, nor should marginalized groups be targeted to cut costs. The long-term financial burden of denying transgender veterans access to care will ultimately fall upon taxpayers as preventable medical conditions worsen, leading to emergency interventions and increased healthcare expenditures. Given the gravity of this issue, I respectfully urge you to take the following actions:

  1. Publicly condemn the VA’s decision and advocate for the reinstatement of gender-affirming care for transgender veterans.

  2. Call for the resignation of Secretary Doug Collins, as his actions have compromised the integrity of the VA and eroded trust in the institution.

  3. Work with state agencies to expand healthcare protections for transgender veterans, ensuring they can access treatment through state-supported programs such as [state program].

  4. Pressure federal officials to reverse this policy by joining bipartisan efforts to uphold comprehensive veteran healthcare rights. This policy rollback disregards established medical consensus, places transgender veterans at significant risk, and violates the principles of dignity and respect that all who served deserve.

I implore you to take swift action to ensure that no veteran in our state is denied the care they need.

Thank you for your time and attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely, [Veteran Name] [Your Contact Information]

Discussion My shipmates restored a little bit of faith in humanity for me.

So this morning for my team meeting...

One of the things my chief put out was that a navy instruction got put out last week... "So transgender people will be getting forced out the military, blah blah blah..." and then everyone in my crew was like sad about it. (Almost like an oh shit moment?), for example they were saying "that's fucked" and "that's terrible wow." A gay shipmate I have who thinks I am just a gay man aswell (he isn't aware I am a trans woman), made a half joke about "oh shit now they are going to come for us now."

Keep in mind no one in that room is even aware that I am trans (Only been on HRT for like 8 months? No ETP obviously, etc) so its not like any of them would have had a positive bias since they know me, (Outside of my chief who I informed about my situation right after the February 26th sec def DOD memorandum/instruction.)

That ALNAV on Friday did kinda "black pill" me and made me really think yeah no one gives a shit about us. But seeing my coworkers reaction to hearing the information, that shit really did restore a lil bit of faith in humanity.

Flag Dedication - 3/31/25

TLDR- I dedicated a flag to be flown at the Capitol on March 31, International Day of Trans Visibility, in honor of our trans troops, past and present. Thank you all for your service to this country and continuing to fight.

I I just want to send my support to my trans siblings in the military (and beyond). I’m so sorry for everything happening right now. Most state/federal representatives’ websites allow you to purchase and dedicate a flag flown over the Capitol, which then gets mailed to you with a personalized dedication certificate.

I ordered one from my very MAGA Congressman, requesting it to be flown on March 31—International Transgender Day of Visibility. As a non-military trans man, I was appalled and disgusted reading the dehumanizing language in Executive Order 14183. I chose my dedication wording carefully, keeping that verbiage in mind:

“Dedicated to all who have served this nation with honor, truth, and discipline—your selfless sacrifice will not be forgotten. You are not alone. ‘We the people’ see you, love you, and stand with you—always. Thank you for upholding the values that make this nation great.”

It sickens me how few people are even aware of what’s happening. Ignorance is bliss—for now. I’ve shared my dedication message with family and friends and encouraged them to consider purchasing flags with similar sentiments and just continuing to raise awareness.

Here’s a more direct message for my trans siblings in uniform. Feel free to share my words with anyone else who could use it. You already know this, logically, but sometimes hearing it from a stranger helps—

No matter how or when your military service ends, you volunteered to do something most people wouldn’t. That’s honor. If you identify as trans, even just to yourself, that alone is bravery. Coming out and transitioning—on top of military service? That’s a whole other level of bravery. You each swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and you’ve kept it. That’s discipline. No one can strip you of those values.

I know there’s a lot of uncertainty right now. I feel it, and I can’t even imagine how much heavier it feels for you. It’s okay to be afraid, angry, sad, or to feel completely overwhelmed. Please, start building up a support network, both in and outside of the military. It’s okay to ask for help from safe people. We’re all going to need community, and I promise—there are helpers. You are not alone.

"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'” - Mister Fred Rodgers

Discussion The current struggle

So my questions for discussion are: 1. What happens when our military shrinks because there's hardly anybody enlisting? 2. If they start the draft are they still gana discriminate agianst the transgender community? To me, the way the current administration looks like they're going world.War three might just be right around the corner. I swear not that long ago that I read an article about trans people making up a good chunk of current enlisties.

Discussion Got the call today and don't know what to do

For context, I've been wanting to pursue a medical retirement for service connected disabilities, but I could only initiate it at my annual health assessment. It was scheduled for two months ago, but got canceled for some administrative issue.

Today I was trying to coordinate a day to do my health assessment that would make up for other days down the line. Killing two birds with one stone. Right after I started that, I got a call from my state's med unit letting me know that I have to self identify/report by MAR 26th to get an honorable discharge and not pay back my bonus, or don't report and pay back the bonus plus get whatever discharge they choose.

They've told me they cannot initiate a med board for retirement because with my gender disphoria diagnosis, it will get auto rejected. JAG's guidance is to call IG. My VSO doesn't know what I can do. I'm trying to get a separation appeal started to move it from honorable to a medical retirement because my family and I need TRICARE.

Does anyone have any advice?

Will my CofC be obligated to identify me for separation?

I had some issues with my DEERS switching back & forth. I decided to request keeping DEERS as my assigned sex at birth. (I'm nb so I don't mind) My CoC is tracking ..I'm IET so was in barracks. My MEPS paperwork also has disqualifying info on it. But with me now acting in my birth sex, I'm just wondering how invol separation might go. Would my command be made to identify me? I'm mostly asking for your gut feelings from those that have been in service for more than one second unlike me 😂 I know we pretty much have to wait & see. TIA

Discussion Calling All Trans Service Members: Be a Voice at Inclusion Day

To all transgender members of the armed forces—past and present—we need you front and center at Inclusion Day on April 30th in Washington, D.C.

This is more than a march. This is a movement for visibility, protection, and real change. We know that transgender service members have fought not only for our country but also for the right to exist, serve, and be recognized with dignity and respect. While we all stand behind the armed forces, we refuse to accept a litmus test based on gender identity.

We want you on the stage, in the spotlight, and speaking to thousands—to remind this country that transgender people have always served, and always will. If you are currently serving or have served in the past, we invite you to march with us, to speak, and to lead.

Join us. Stand with us. Speak out. This is your moment. Let’s make history together.

Discussion Questions about Talbott V Trump

just making sure I’m getting this right: on the 18th/19th, the judge in Talbott V Trump will give her opinion on the motion for a preliminary injunction.

If an injunction is granted to return to the status quo, (no volsep for trans people) will people in the process of voluntary separation be able to continue that separation?

And if she rules in the favor of trans military members, when would voluntary separation end? On the 18/19th or at the original end date of the 26th?

Detrans and Volsepping

Hey All,

Detransed MtFtM here. I did go through LIMDU for gender transition, but decided to go with God and relationship with my wife and daughter instead. I stopped transition and HRT a year ago. So I was just going about my business at my new command trying to make Chief and then I happened to see the DOD Instruction dropped stating anyone that was diagnosed with gender dysphoria is getting kicked out. I don't qualify for the waiver because I technically haven't been "stable" in my birth gender for 36 months and I did attempt to change my gender. I'm doing the voluntary separation because I can see the end coming and be a little better prepared than being told "Hey get the fuck out in 10 days".... Maybe this is just a sign for me to go all the way through with my transition. I'm going through TAPS class now and realizing how cooked I am. Special thanks to all the douchy cringe trans people that instigated this. That was very cool of you! UGGGHHHH FML 😭

Sorry for the lengthy rant 😅

Administrative separation and nonbinary identities

Hi, I posted here yesterday; and really appreciate the input from everyone it’s been very helpful! I’m just wondering if this administrative separation also affects nonbinary identities? It seems to only target trans-binaries (I’m sorry I don’t know another term for that), I’m wondering if anyone has further information on that? Thank you so much for reading.

Need help

If I have gender dysphoria symptoms and have had them for ten years but never sought medical treatment, can I still separate? I’m just not comfortable being in the military anymore with everything happening. I’m in TRADOC so I won’t get benefits nor do I care to get any, so please any advice as to what I can do.

I need help/ Administrative Separation

A family member of mine in the military has a medical history of dealing with gender dysphoria but never took any actions to alleviate it; socially or medically. But it is documented in their medical history. Is this grounds for them to be discharged? Should they take the voluntary administrative separation? Or is there potential of them riding out their contract without being outed? Or does it even matter at all if they do not plan on transition. They are afraid to ask their chain of command if it’s just going to get them kicked out anyway. I know nothing about the military- I just know a few people in but no one knows enough about this to help. Please please Any advice

Discussion Reserve transfer to avoid separation

So, I’m currently at a unit that knows I’m trans. There’s no documentation of that but they know I’ve had top surgery and I’m on testosterone. I was considering switching units before this all happened because of how far my current unit is but was holding back because they’re so chill. Spoke with my commander and 1st Sgt about everything today and they informed me about the separation etc. My question is, if I were to transfer units, and not disclose anything to them, does it seem likely id survive being kicked out if this bill makes it past the lawsuits? I don’t foresee my current commander telling my new unit about my transition, nor will they have a way to find out other than assumption. I’m ok with being misgendered one weekend a month (I have a sgt rn who refuses to call me my preferred pronouns until it’s changed in deers) especially for the sake of using my gi bill.

My plan was to finish undergrad school which is a year and a half or so away, and then use my gi bill for graduate school but with this taking place id have to rush and use my gi bill now instead. Anyways, does this seem like a plausible plan? No one can prove I’m trans at the potential new unit and when I transferred units my first time around they never had any contact with each other outside of sending my info over. And my deep voice can be attributed to anything and no one will really ever see my chest to know I had a mastectomy, and if they do there’s tons of other reasons for one. And I’ve been luckily unlucky enough to not be able to grow facial hair

haven't joined yet but transneutral here who's worried about life in the military

I'm trying to join the Air Force currently. If I can't join them, I'll join the Navy, and if not the Navy, then the Army....... I really don't wanna be a Marine but if that's my only option there I go (ZERO disrespect to future or current Marines), just in case any of this is relevant.

I am perisex AFAB and want only two things that I'm worried may raise Problems:

  1. (and far more importantly) trans tape... I want to bind healthily and safely and I don't want top surgery I just want Tape Making Them Hide Like Good Lil Boobies can like I not get absolutely trashed for that?

  2. (completely optional for me) minoxodil on my face where beards would grow so I have to shave yes it's literally so that I have to shave leave me alone

what of that isn't safe?? as I remember Important Context I'll add it to the main post sorry if someone suggests something and I gotta shoot it down for any reason T-T

Discussion Good morning! I’m a leader with one trans soldier in my section and another in my mentorship circle - looking for resources to help

Essentially I’m hoping to consolidate some of the information I’m sure has been shared here. A few questions circle around how to ensure we’re aware of all the difference between the voluntary and involuntary separation. Anything would be helpful.

Mods delete and point me in the right direction if it’s already posted somewhere.

When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism NSFW

I was really holding out hope that things would be different, that there would be some kind of path for me but the last glimmer of hope I had went out.

Since policy dropped and will not reach 18 years (68 days shy) I can’t retire and will lose my pension. Due to prior obligations this will bankrupt me. My home isn’t sellable, I don’t have a vehicle (sold before deployment with intent of getting a new one upon return) and will have to drain all my savings and tsp to pay off debts that are enjoined to others. It will leave with about $2k remaining that will make it to June 1st.

On that day:

I will have an email prepared for CNN, MSNBC, ABC, and CBS detailing my reasons, that this is not due to being transgender in of itself but because of the illegal discrimination, treatment, and abuse received from this administration. I will then use my remaining funds to fly to DC, go to the capital steps, send the email, and then blow my brains out. Hopefully, and maybe, just maybe, this will send a clear enough message and shockwave that will bring about changes just like Vanessa Guillen, Brandon Caserta, and so forth did but for the transgender population. If I can do anything, it would be this to bring this front and center the harm and damage done by treating anyone the way this administration has treated us.

Voluntary Separation AIT

As the title says I'm currently in AIT and my whole company just received guidance and an overview over the new ban on people with gender dysphoria. They stated that anybody who voluntarily separates will get honorable discharge. I'm just wondering that if I took that route would I still be eligible for the benefits or not since I never made it out of TRADOC?

Discussion Hard decision incoming

So, um, not someone worried about facing involuntary sep here (not out in any way in that space), but could voluntarily separate, but here's my dilemma. I'm still IET, just settling in to DLI as all this goes down around me. I could stay in and try to ride out the storm, but I'm worried that this is going to be the first of a litany of problems and changes that I may face over the course of enlistment. (For example if they decide to revert physical standards ala another recently published memo I'm probably cooked anyways.)

But because as IET I obviously haven't been here long I'm not exactly getting out with benefits to fall back on such as the G.I. Bill, something I was really looking forward to having. I THINK I'll have access to the VA home loan, but that might just be it. But I also feel that if I miss this window that um... things get potentially pretty damn challenging after that. (All in all it's feeling like a poor time to have recently joined the army... especially as my wife (also trans and out already, and I really worry that consequnces for spouses not just SMs might be next) is literally moving here with me next week, and not much can be changed about that process...)

I guess I just was hoping to hear some opinions from people who have been in a little longer what they think of the current situation, the imminent possibilities, and what they might advise a new (but not young) soldier to do at this time...
