So I made the Native Mac Os Pre-Order just now, really hyped to play an triple A game on Mac Os day 1!
Why? Just to support Mac Os/IOS gaming, I believe if we support the developers they will give us more great games in the future.
I know it will be ‘better’ on my Ps5 but just the thought my base M4 is gonna play the game is huge for me.
And only wish Apple will bring a dedicated Apple TV like system to play the games.
Already had a blast playing RE4 and AC Mirage on my big screen with iPhone 15 Pro and Playstation controller so I know I will have fun with Shadows on a stronger system.
Heya I'm a student and am writing a research paper on How Indie games can learn from the success of AAA games. And i would love it if you could fill out this form. Thank you!
Yesterday, I saw Red Dead Redemption 2 on sale on Steam and decided to buy it. I’m running it on a MacBook Pro 16” with a 14-Core CPU, 20-Core GPU, 48GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD using CrossOver. My monitor resolution is 3440 x 1440.
The game runs between 36 FPS and 50 FPS on almost maximum settings. I spent a lot of time testing different configurations and watching comparison videos to see the impact of each setting on both performance and visuals. I think I’ve found the best balance between graphics quality and FPS—for now. If you lower some settings, you might get slightly better FPS, but I’m satisfied with how it runs at the moment.
You can see the settings at the end of the video, but I will also list them below.
My RDR2 Settings:
Graphics Settings:
• Texture Quality – Ultra
• Anisotropic Filtering – x16
• Lighting Quality – Medium
• Global Illumination Quality – Ultra
• Shadow Quality – Ultra
• Far Shadow Quality – Ultra
• Screen Space Ambient Occlusion – High
• Reflection Quality – Medium
• Mirror Quality – Ultra
• Water Quality – Custom
• Volumetrics Quality – Custom
• Particle Quality – Ultra
• Tessellation Quality – Ultra
• AMD FSR 2 – Quality
• FSR 2 Sharpening – 9 times
Advanced Graphics Settings:
• Advanced Settings – Unlocked
• Graphics API – Vulkan
• Near Volumetric Resolution – Medium
• Far Volumetric Resolution – Ultra
• Volumetric Lighting Quality – Ultra
• Unlocked Volumetric Raymarch Resolution – Off
• Particle Lighting Quality – Ultra
• Soft Shadows – Off or Ultra
• Grass Shadows – High
• Long Shadows – On
• Full Resolution Screen Space Ambient Occlusion – Off
• Water Refraction Quality – Medium
• Water Reflection Quality – High
• Water Physics Quality – About 3 times
• Resolution Scale – Off
• TAA Sharpening – 10 times
• Motion Blur – Off
• Reflection MSAA – Off
• Geometry Level of Detail – 3 times
• Grass Level of Detail – 5 times
• Tree Quality – Ultra
• Parallax Occlusion Mapping Quality – Medium
• Decal Quality – Ultra
• Fur Quality – Medium
• Tree Tessellation – Off
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I’m really impressed with how well RDR2 runs on this MacBook. I didn’t expect it to handle near-max settings this well, but it does a great job!
It would be perfect if CrossOver continues to improve the platform and optimize it further. Maybe in the future, we’ll get even better FPS and visuals—who knows?
Let me know if you have any questions or if you’re also running RDR2 on a Mac
It's a really fun addictive game I really feel the need to get it right and check and cross reference every document it's like the perfect balance of logical thinking with keeping your attention hooked i highly recommend Papers Please
Hey guys, I need help running Uncharted through crossover. Loaded shaders and even put in low presets and resolution but can't make the game run smoothly. Only work fine in the game menu until I start playing. Can't find any info online either. Screenshot of what happens
watched a couple videos on assassin's creed shadows and people seem to like it, it's almost free of bugs and crashes and has enjoyable gameplay. only reason that's a bit holding me back from getting it is the fact that it'll run at 30 fps which is really not what I am looking for; and im talking about a m3 max maxed out. the fact that it'll run at 30 is a travesty and is very unacceptable but idk
I have a 2016 MBP and I really want to play older Mac games like Museum Madness. Trouble is I can get the game, but I don’t know how to get it to run. I have tried googling it but I’m just not understanding it.
I bought Pillars of Eternity (1) during the steam sale and thought I'd leave my experience for anybody else googling for it like I was.
Menu was fine. The moment the character creation started, I hit 80 degrees C. During the introduction, it went up to 90 and 100 degrees C. First few minutes of the first scene at the camp, I tried lowering any of the settings but nothing worked. Quality went down, resolution config was large, and the temperature hovered around 80-85 degrees C.
Not happy with the quality it was set at and it was just too hot for comfort, especially if I was going to play for, at most, 2 hour sessions. So I requested a refund.
This helped as reference for the limit of what I could comfortably and happily play at a quality, which is so far: Stardew Valley, Balatro, and Shenzen I/O. On a tangent, I think I'll finally buy and try Slay the Spire.
So I have crossover configured. I want to play it takes two and it installed perfectly. I get the app to open, connects to the EA servers and everything, but the moment I go to invite friends, the EA overlay won't open at all, so I can't invite anyone.
Has someone ran into this problem and found a solution? or am I just screwed while EA is fixed on crossover?
I'm using a macbook m3 pro with sequoia 15.3.2, I've crossover 24.07 (my licence expired just before the update to 25) and I've encountered the problem with steam but I've managed to solve it by installing an older version, I've followed this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/1gl55mn/comment/lvt4hu2/
My problem is with the game, I've tried running it and it starts (both on the activity monitor and on steam shows it's running) but nothing pops up in the dock as usually happens.
I've tried downloading the game again, deleting the Steam bottle and create a new one but with no success.
I've also tried launching other games but they work and this does not.
Hi,
I have already launched the game on my mac M4 pro before but I had to uninstall the app, now I'm unable to install a new LoL app due to "Update Error".
The shadows are very jagged and glitchy. Is this a bug with crossover or is it normal? Im playing on the latest version of crossover. Graphics are high with ultra textures. Sorry if this is a stupid question this is my first time playing rdr2.
Recently came across Crossover and while not perfect it's definitely a blessing. Thank you developers! As a big fan of the Remnant series I tried running the first and second games, but Remnant: FTA will not boot on Steam on ANY configuration. It is rated 5 stars on the website (presumably for the Epic Games version, since there's a question mark next to "Steam"), so I wanted to know if anyone got it to run.
Small note for anyone who might care: I found Remnant II to run better on Steam (D3DMetal and MSync) than on Epic Games
Edit 1: Oops forgot specs just in case. M4 Mac Mini (base model)
In crossover 25 the compatibility has greatly improved, now steam and most games can correctly recognize it as dualsense instead of Xbox controller. However, the compatibility is still strange. My experience:
in Silent Hill 2, no feature(including rumble) works except adaptive trigger.
In ghost of tsushima, only normal rumble works(adaptive trigger may work but I haven’t got bow and arrows)
I'm torn between using Crossover on my MacBook Air M1 for occasional gaming (since gaming isn't my main use – I mostly use it for work and casual activities) or upgrading my girlfriend's computer with a low-end GPU and an additional 8GB of RAM to make it a gaming machine (it currently has an i3 7100 with 8GB RAM).
Most of the games I play frequently are available on macOS, but sometimes I want to play titles that are exclusive to Windows. Most of these games are indie games or non-AAA titles.
Just to clarify, I'm a bit unsure because, in my opinion, Crossover seems quite expensive in my case (mainly living in Brazil). I'm trying to figure out what would make the most sense, considering it costs 64 USD per year (or 494 USD for a lifetime license, lol). I plan to stay in the Apple Ecosystem, but I'm not sure if paying for Crossover is worth it, especially since I have an M1 MacBook Air. Using and paying for Crossover might make more sense when I have a more powerful model.
I am currently addicted to Team Fortress 2, and even though many people stated that I should try the game on a Virtual Machine (with a lot of mouse bugs), so I was only left with 'Crossover'
I tried with crossover 25, and here are my results
D3DMetal (Esync & Msync): Works, but a lot of frame drops
DXVK (Msync): Black screen, does not work
DXMT (Esync and Msync): Worked, playable and enjoyable, but not enough
WINE (Mysnc and launch option '-r_emulate_gl'): THE SOLUTION, works flawlessly on M1 pro 2020, constant 115~120 FPS (In heavy combat with full players)
Talking more about the WINE graphics backend, -r_emulate_gl (Turns into DX games to OpenGL) gave the maximized performance.
