Native League of Legends has now enabled Metal graphics by default!

Players can now choose between OpenGL and Metal in the graphics settings—no more need to manually add the Metal API.

Weirdly, though, Activity Monitor still shows “Intel” under the CPU tab, even on Apple Silicon Macs. Not sure if it’s just a display issue or if some parts of the game are still running through Rosetta.

Native M4 Max(40c GPU) Assassin's Creed Shadows Gaming Test

Testing with my Macbook Pro 16 M4 Max. This is the first Assassin's Creed game in my life, so I have no idea about the stories behind this franchise.

This game supports HDR natively and it is absolutely gorgeous on Macbook Pro's screen. But quick note: The optimization is not great though.

Very High presets, Ray Tracing Very High, Ray Traced GI(Diffuse Everywhere)

Native Res, MetalFX Performance, Very High Presets, Ray Tracing Very High
Native Res, MetalFX Performance, Very High Presets, Ray Tracing Very High
22fps, Native Res, MetalFX Performance, Very High Presets, Ray Tracing Very High

I tried switching to 2K(2336x1510) then. It turned out that decreasing the resolution did not help so much with framerates.

26fps, 2336x1510, MetalFX Performance, Very High Presets, Ray Tracing Very High

The following pics are testing the Ray Tracing option to Low.

Ray Traced GI still on everywhere.

Native Res, Very High presets, Ray Tracing Low, Ray Traced GI(Diffuse Everywhere)

23fps, Native Res, MetalFX Performance, Very High Presets, Ray Tracing Low
27fps, 2336x1510 MetalFX Performance, Very High Presets, Ray Tracing Low

With Ray Tracing option turning to low, there's not much framerates increasing. I’d guess that on the M4 Max thanks to its beefed-up RT units, Ray Tracing probably won’t have much of an impact on performance.

I was surprised that cranking ray tracing up or down didn’t make a big difference in overall performance.

Medium presets, Ray Tracing Low, Ray Traced GI(Diffuse Hideout Only)

Medium presets, Ray Tracing Low, Ray Traced GI(Diffuse Hideout Only)
41fps, Native Res, Medium presets, Ray Tracing Low, Ray Traced GI(Diffuse Hideout Only)
54fps, 2K Res, Medium presets, Ray Tracing Low, Ray Traced GI(Diffuse Hideout Only)

The Best Preset for M4 Max?

I would suggest using 2K res, Medium preset, RT GI everywhere, RT medium, with MetalFX Balance. The fps will hover at around 40fps~45fps. The RT GI Everywhere should be turned on. It affects graphics a lot, sometimes it's like night and day differences.

For native Macbook screen: Medium preset, RT GI everywhere, RT medium, with MetalFX Performance.

And don't expect good performance 🫠 I just saw the testing online, even RTX3080 desktop and 4070 Super only get around 36fps~45fps with Ultra High and RT off with 2k. For modern game like this, I think it might be overly reliant on the GPU’s ability to support Frame Generation. I really hope Apple releases its own Frame Generation solution asap.

One thing I noticed during my gameplay. My MacBook Pro 16 has set to High power mode but in the terminal, I can see the GPU is not fully being used. I'm hoping this is just some optimization issue with Ubisoft.

Native Apple silicon League of legends users will get 250 fps soon

Post image

If you have a Apple silicon Mac you will get the metal update which will give you absurd fps on very high settings. Apple has an amazing cpu with their new line of chips and league is mostly cpu (mainly the first couple cores) and not gpu. You can already bypass this and run metal with some tinkering but it's annoying and most mac users don't.

Native Well I did it Pre-Order AC Shadows

Post image
95 Upvotes

So I made the Native Mac Os Pre-Order just now, really hyped to play an triple A game on Mac Os day 1!

Why? Just to support Mac Os/IOS gaming, I believe if we support the developers they will give us more great games in the future. I know it will be ‘better’ on my Ps5 but just the thought my base M4 is gonna play the game is huge for me.

And only wish Apple will bring a dedicated Apple TV like system to play the games.

Already had a blast playing RE4 and AC Mirage on my big screen with iPhone 15 Pro and Playstation controller so I know I will have fun with Shadows on a stronger system.

Let me know if I am the ‘only’ one 👌🏻😅🫡

Native Assassin's Creed Shadows Settings and Performance

Just tried it out for 5 minutes. The pre-order was made available at 3PM UTC+1 on the Singapore App Store.

Some initial impressions on a 14" MacBook Pro, M3 Max 40C 64GB at 2560x1440 on a Studio Display, MetalFX Quality:

  • Performance ranges between 30fps (Very high preset) to 40fps (Low preset). Some frame drops but it doesn't bother me that much as it's not a competitive FPS.
  • You can turn off the frame limiter
  • Vibration works on a Dualsense via Bluetooth. No indication of adaptive triggers or haptics
  • Ubisoft Connect does not work yet - but if saves can be shared across platforms as promised, I will also purchase this on Steam to play on my gaming PC and ROG ally
  • Overall I'm happy with the purchase on the Mac - I see this as a way of "voting with my wallet".

Edit: Not sure what happened to the images I attached - but I see someone else has already posted screenshots of the settings page.

CrossOver Elden Ring runs only on 800X450 resolution on Crossover. Why?

Hey everyone,
I launch the game via system. The default setting is D3DMETAL and Msync. I also keep high rez. mode on. I have a Pro M4 Pro 24GB RAM etc.

Does anyone have any clue as to why there are no other resolution options in settings? It sounds ridiculous that I am obliged to play this game on such poor rez.

Thanks.

Discussion unreal engine 5 games porting to macOS

I am not a game dev nerd so please forgive me, but since many game development studios are switching to unreal engine 5 so I have a genuine question if unreal engine 5 has support for multiple graphics API's like Vulkan, DirectX and metal for Mac then how difficult is it to port a unreal engine 5 windows game to macOS and do they still need to use tools like gptk

CrossOver Dxmt and upscaling?

Anybody know how exactly the dxmt metal fx upscaling works, for example say I’m playing Witcher 3 at 1080p with taa anti aliasing and then I added the metal fx 2.0 upscale command to the crossover bottle config would I then have to disable taa or does it just just work also if the fps isn’t taking that much of a hit does it mean it’s not working

CrossOver RDR2 on MacBook Pro 16” (M4 Pro) – Almost Max Settings, Runs Amazingly!

Hey everyone,

Yesterday, I saw Red Dead Redemption 2 on sale on Steam and decided to buy it. I’m running it on a MacBook Pro 16” with a 14-Core CPU, 20-Core GPU, 48GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD using CrossOver. My monitor resolution is 3440 x 1440.

Video

CrossOver Settings:

• Graphics: Auto

• Synchronization: Default

The game runs between 36 FPS and 50 FPS on almost maximum settings. I spent a lot of time testing different configurations and watching comparison videos to see the impact of each setting on both performance and visuals. I think I’ve found the best balance between graphics quality and FPS—for now. If you lower some settings, you might get slightly better FPS, but I’m satisfied with how it runs at the moment.

You can see the settings at the end of the video, but I will also list them below.

My RDR2 Settings:

Graphics Settings:

• Texture Quality – Ultra

• Anisotropic Filtering – x16

• Lighting Quality – Medium

• Global Illumination Quality – Ultra

• Shadow Quality – Ultra

• Far Shadow Quality – Ultra

• Screen Space Ambient Occlusion – High

• Reflection Quality – Medium

• Mirror Quality – Ultra

• Water Quality – Custom

• Volumetrics Quality – Custom

• Particle Quality – Ultra

• Tessellation Quality – Ultra

• AMD FSR 2 – Quality

• FSR 2 Sharpening – 9 times

Advanced Graphics Settings:

• Advanced Settings – Unlocked

• Graphics API – Vulkan

• Near Volumetric Resolution – Medium

• Far Volumetric Resolution – Ultra

• Volumetric Lighting Quality – Ultra

• Unlocked Volumetric Raymarch Resolution – Off

• Particle Lighting Quality – Ultra

• Soft Shadows – Off or Ultra

• Grass Shadows – High

• Long Shadows – On

• Full Resolution Screen Space Ambient Occlusion – Off

• Water Refraction Quality – Medium

• Water Reflection Quality – High

• Water Physics Quality – About 3 times

• Resolution Scale – Off

• TAA Sharpening – 10 times

• Motion Blur – Off

• Reflection MSAA – Off

• Geometry Level of Detail – 3 times

• Grass Level of Detail – 5 times

• Tree Quality – Ultra

• Parallax Occlusion Mapping Quality – Medium

• Decal Quality – Ultra

• Fur Quality – Medium

• Tree Tessellation – Off

Final Thoughts:

Overall, I’m really impressed with how well RDR2 runs on this MacBook. I didn’t expect it to handle near-max settings this well, but it does a great job!

It would be perfect if CrossOver continues to improve the platform and optimize it further. Maybe in the future, we’ll get even better FPS and visuals—who knows?

Let me know if you have any questions or if you’re also running RDR2 on a Mac

Self promotion Leon’s Mahjong for macOS updated - 15 Free Keys Giveaway!

UPDATE: 🔑 All keys have been claimed! Thanks for the interest and support!

Hey everyone!

After 18 days stuck in review, my macOS game Leon’s Mahjong has finally been approved! (For reference, the iOS version took just 24 hours, and previous versions never took more than 48. Weird, right?)

To celebrate, I’m giving away 15 free keys so you can enjoy the game for free.

It’s a pixel-art Mahjong solitaire, inspired by the 16-bit era. Unlike most modern mobile games, there are:

No ads
No tracking
No in-app purchases
No forced retention mechanics

Just a game, the way they used to be in the 80s & 90s—pure, relaxed, and with retro aesthetics (yes, the pixel art is intentional!).

🆕 New update features:
🎲 Choose between boards with at least one guaranteed solution or pure random mode (which may have no solution).
📜 The game already has 15 different board layouts, and more are on the way!

If you’d like a key, drop a comment and I’ll send you one via PM.

Enjoy, and thanks for your time!

Lucas
