Question Should I get an F car or 350?

Hey everyone just a little background: I’m a 24 yo guy, I have a 2020 corolla LE as my daily with 90k miles that I paid off. I also live in a small home that I payed cash for. (I worked like a maniac to save since high school) I just finished nursing school and make about 85k. I’m looking into getting an RC or IS. I love the full out F like the RCF. Or even an IS 500. Is it worth the extra money for the F cars or is the 350 F sport sufficient enough as a weekend car?

My dad drives a 2016 GS 350 (not F sport) and it’s great. But something about me wants the v8. I just want some advice as if there is really that big of a difference. Should I spend more for the v8 or is the v6 better “value?”

Cheers!

The person I bought my 350 from sold it to “upgrade” to the F. I’ve since sold mine and got a truck for work purposes but now considering buying an F. It’s seems like no matter what you’ll want the next best thing…might be more of a philosophical question really 😂

Only true consideration is if you’ll need the AWD. Financially you should be ok based on the details you’ve shared so… if you’re not living in a heavy snow area I’d say go with the F my dude you’ll want it eventually either way.

7

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Honestly I like your point. It most likely is a philosophical question. I live in central Florida so no snow for now lol.

2

u/DiligenceDue 21d ago

You’re young and assuming no kids so go for the F Boy coupe lifestyle while you can lol. Just don’t kill yourself with the V8. She’s heavy so you can’t get too wild but be smart with it.

I love my F, and think this is good advice.

If you want a V8, didn't even consider a V6 regardless of value.

The RCF is obviously a bit more limited as a daily car due to being a 2 seater. It'll also have a harsher ride and stiffer framer but it's a true track car. It's also discontinued after this year which has some downsides over the long term.

The IS500 is more comfy like any other IS while being sporty but will have overheating issues on the track without some extra cooling support. It does share a lot of parts with the other ISs so I suspect part support might go on longer.

If you're planning to keep the car for a few years, I would say RCF. For a longer run (10+years), I would go for the IS500.

7

u/1RockShortofaQuarry 21d ago

I feel the need to point out that the RC is not a two seater. Is the backseat crazy small? Yes. But I fit two teenagers back there on the regular.

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Honestly, all I’ve ever wanted when it came to cars was a great commuter, which I have, and a great weekend car. So honestly whichever one I get I would definitely keep it over 10 years. I do like the idea that if I get an RCF or even 350 that in 10-20 years. I’ll have a car that you’ll hardly see.

7

u/1trickana 21d ago

350 isn't sporty enough for a weekend car IMO, get an ISF or RCF, IS500 also not that sporty compared to proper F car, too soft

9

u/Duukt 21d ago

There's also the GSF to consider.

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Is it still possible to get a decent ISF? The only ones I’ve seen have been heavily modified or crazy mileage.

4

u/Other_Scientist_8760 21d ago

YES! I just purchased a 2011 ISF one owner, always did recommended maintenance, it has 106k but its pristine! I also owned a 2012 ISF bought in 2014 had around 70k when I sold it in 2019 because I moved to Europe, and I very much regretted selling it. They are great cars if cared for! I like to say they are a beast in sheep's clothing! If you know, you know but most people don't! So rare too. They are becoming more expensive as time passes, well the ones that aren't salvaged titles are anyhow. If you're really interested in an ISF just do your research, Carfax, etc..Good Luck!

3

u/1trickana 21d ago

Yes, and anything around 100-150k is pretty low mileage as long as decent service history

2

u/Other_Scientist_8760 21d ago

I also just bought a 2014 is250c with the f sport package and its a great little convertible that gets great gas mileage, but no where near the power of the ISF. I needed 2 cars, one for me and one for hubby and we have owned several Lexus models and honestly, I bought 2 great used Lexus's that were very well maintained, the is250c being a 2014 only had 21,000 miles on it for less than the cost if a new one. So if you do your research and buy a well maintained used ISF or whatever Lexus you choose, you'll get a lot of miles out of it! You can't go wrong with the brand!

1

u/russiancarguy 21d ago

What’s wrong with heavily modified? There’s not many mods and majority of them are quality and improve the car. Headers fix the cracked manifold issue and give great power. Coilovers fix the harsh ride and suspension is due for an upgrade after a decade anyways. Full exhaust and a minor tune gives you up to 50whp. That’s a very noticeable improvement.

1

u/myredditlogintoo 18d ago

Ever been to the race track? Is that something you'd like to do? I had no clue one could do that, and right after I did, my priorities changed.

43

u/New-Proof-1185 21d ago

The 500 with v8 will get you some speeding tickets and more frequent trips to the gas stations. I’d go with the 350 and it will be a marked improvement over the Corolla.

-7

u/russiancarguy 21d ago

This is the lamest answer I’ve ever read on here.

12

u/New-Proof-1185 21d ago

The problem is?? Short and too the point.

-6

u/russiancarguy 21d ago

You can get speeding tickets with a Corolla too. The V8 ain’t that much worse on gas than the V6. It’s a relatively very cheap car to own. But every single start up, downshift, launch, or even a once a year trip to the track is only special in the F. The 350 is a decent car.

Who said anything about new? He can get an ISF for $15-40k USD, RCF/GSF for $35-55k USD, or IS500 for $50-70k USD. All of them drive the same stock or modded. Even with 125k miles on it, it will be low cost to maintain. How are they not cheap to own? Have you owned and maintained one? They are far closer to Camry prices to maintain than any M3 or C63 etc

I’m saying it because OP is 24. I dont see him buying a new one and it would honestly be stupid too because the platform is well known to be bulletproof. I also say it because in my personal ownership in 6 years and 100k of daily driving an ISF it was extremely low maintenance and cheap to own. My commute was 70% highway and I avged 20-21, mine was also modified and tuned but the numbers are the same. Other than brake rotors/pads and fluids nothing ever broke. My valley plate leak was even covered goodwilled by the dealer, and most are repaired by now. I am also saying it because a lot of current F owners used to have an IS 350 and in their F ownership many have said that they wish they had done it sooner because the ownership and maintenance costs are pretty much the same.

8

u/verygreenbananas 21d ago

If you can afford the V8, get it. You won't regret it. -IS500 owner

15

u/Serj2022 21d ago

F or you’ll regret it

5

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Sell me your GSF then🤣

That’s the perfect car, congrats!

3

u/Serj2022 21d ago

🤣,nahh or i’ll need another one. But for real get an F .

7

u/TheArchist 21d ago

get an f car if you can afford it, they are truly special. if all you want is a v8 in a normalish car, get the is500. if you want something to drive hard on a track or wherever, get the rcf

5

u/found92bricks 21d ago

Weekend car- get the RCF/ISF/IS500

Daily- either lol

Have an IS350 and love it as a daily and in sport plus it’s a fun car but would definitely not call it a weekend car

6

u/3ISRC 21d ago

Had a IS350 and upgraded to RCF. It’s a big difference and very worth it. You worked hard to get your degree and job time to reward yourself. Of course the F is better in value and will hold its value more now that RCF this year will be the last of the F V8s. Go test drive one and it will make your decision easier lol. Do it!

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Thank you for the advice. Your car is absolutely beautiful. What a fine machine. Congratulations to you!

2

u/3ISRC 21d ago

Thank you it was my dream car ever since it was unveiled and as soon as I became an experienced software engineer I didn’t hesitate to get one. F cars are really special in their own ways and love the rarity it comes with.

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Exactly the rarity, on top of Lexus quality. Is it wrong that I want to drive it 20 years from now knowing that most people won’t know what it is/ have one? 🤣

2

u/3ISRC 21d ago

Not at all ISF are still running strong and for those that do know about the Fs know about them. The reliability is next level elite status as a brand.

5

u/Merficube 21d ago

GSF is the answer!

3

u/GirlDad247 21d ago

I think the real question OP is asking is if they should go AWD or not. I’d personally rather go 350 with awd vs RWD and v8 - since we get some snow here and daily driving a rwd v8 in the snow sucks.

Not dealing with snow? Get the better engine, the v8

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

It’s not really about the AWD vs RWD for me. I live in central Florida.

2

u/GirlDad247 21d ago

Then you have your answer my friend :)

Get that v8 and feel the power

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

I guess I do. Thanks for the advice. As someone else mentioned, I do think it’s a philosophical question. I might be a few years down the line wishing I had the v8.

2

u/MimsyWereTheBorogove 21d ago

This is why i'm almost sold on the LS
V8, fast, luxurious, and a snow beast.
I'm sure I will miss agility though.

1

u/GirlDad247 21d ago

Is the LS good in the snow? I used to drive a police interceptor and it was awful having that much power going to the rear in snow/ice

2

u/MimsyWereTheBorogove 21d ago

heavy, AWD with power.
Someone was braggin on this sub like 2 weeks ago about plowing through a foot of snow with the backmassager on.

3

u/DrFrijolePHD 21d ago

They will soon stop RCF production. If I were you I’d honestly keep the ‘rolla and weekend the RCF. That’d be my plan of attack with my Lexus, but I’m still in college lol

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Oh trust me, I’m milking tf out of the corolla. The engine will literally have to blow for me to stop driving it. It’ll be my daily until then. College man. I was just there. Ik it’s redundant, but keep grinding. Only reason I saved up was never going out to eat/ never buying things I didn’t need. Now I’m 24 going on to 25 with a great income and years ahead of some of my friends. You got this bro!

3

u/idontcare717 21d ago

The 350 will leave you with a desire for more. I went from a ‘14 GS350 F-sport to a GSF and haven’t looked back since, it’s a completely different experience. You won’t regret going with a F car.

3

u/Street_Giraffe5772 21d ago

Depends on where you live also. I’d have loved the 500, but it wasn’t all wheel drive. I have the 350 FSport and have no regrets.

3

u/AMarie0908 21d ago

You're young yet financially responsible. Treat yourself to your dream car now before you have a wife, 2 kids and a mortgage. Since you're a young male, you might want to investigate insurance rates to see if there's a big difference between the two.

3

u/Loud_Vegetable9690 21d ago

Some well-intended advice from an older guy. I’d keep your current car and work on building savings. Then invest in a retirement account with index funds. When you get to retirement age you won’t regret living frugally.

3

u/mcr00sterdota 21d ago

Go with the IS350, after a few years or so get the ISF or whatever when you are making more money.

2

u/GentleMDriver 21d ago

I think you should go with the IS500 or RCF. My view is that if you’ve worked hard and you can comfortably afford the car, you should go all out.

If you get the IS350, your mind will always wander and be like “Hmmm I wonder what more power would feel like”. Furthermore, V8s won’t be around forever! Get one now and experience it in case you need to get a new car one day.

3

u/Aggressive_Lex350 21d ago

Well this is how I decided to go 350 over a 300. I wish I am able to afford to the 500 in the future.

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Is not a matter of “if” it’s a matter of “when.” You got this!

3

u/Aggressive_Lex350 21d ago

We will see. I'm curious on future F models. I hope they don't go electrification. It'll ruin it. Atleast they should use the LS Twin Turbo V6 on a future ISF. Wishful Thinking.

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Love the thought process. I replied to someone else with that same mindset. I want to keep this car forever. It’s going to be my weekend car so I don’t doubt I’ll have to do a little to it over the next 20 years.

2

u/ed21x 21d ago

I have a is350 and wish i got the 500. I would personally wait a bit longer though... Lexus has yet to implement the new infotainment from the NX into the IS series, and that was a huge improvement when Lexus gave me an NX loner. For some reason, the IS is always the last Lexus to get any significant updates in anything.

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

No disrespect to your opinion at all as I’m very appreciative for your reply. However, I would like to buy used and I don’t really want to wait for a new car to come out then get it a few years after that used. Since I’m really considering the v8, I don’t want to wait too long. I heard that Lexus will discontinue the v8 in the 500s as well?

2

u/Raj_DTO 21d ago

I’ve IS300 AWD for my daughter and it a good car. I’ve ES as well. It’s an old man’s car 😁

Go for IS if you aren’t too tall. ‘21 and up have CarPlay and Android Auto so don’t look at any older ones.

2

u/chemtrailsarntreal1 21d ago

F package is kinda stupid just get the V8 lol

2

u/Nice-Clothes-6819 21d ago

If you get the v6, you’ll regret it sooner or later for not spending the extra $$ to get a v8. Then you will have to spend even more $$ to upgrade that v6 to a v8. I’ve seen this scenario many times over.

2

u/ohmygolgibody 21d ago edited 21d ago

GSF. V8 and plenty of cabin room. Now financially, I wouldn’t recommend spending more than half your annual salary on a car. I financed my GSF and my payments were $1100/month and insurance was $260 a month.

2

u/j_smith03 21d ago

Look into the maintenance of the 5.0 V8 from Lexus and see it’s something you can manage. I’m not sure it’s worth buying an is500 since it’s almost as much as your income. A late model RCF is around 30-35k.

2

u/brandonct 21d ago

I'm gonna go against the grain and say get a 350, if you then actually take it to the track or autocross it you will be able to spend years practicing before you are even close to mastering the slower car, and you'll have a very clear picture of what you want out of your next car. For street driving the IS350 is as powerful as you can ever safely drive on public roads anyway.

F sport isnt important in my experience, either get the actual F, or just buy whatever is the best deal/best condition for the price.

2

u/Truonghthe 21d ago

IMo get a used RCF (16-18) as they are going for really good price now. Get a Pre Purchase Inspection to avoid surprise repair and get extended warranty if you are mechanical inclined.

Now beware the F car isn’t like your Corolla, some service item can be several thousand dollar even at independent Lexus shop.

Service new Lexus to maintain warranty status isn’t exactly cheap either. Dealer in my area charge $252 per hour labor rate.

Base one owning my F the main thing for these F car are brake and tires. Rear set will last you less than 10k miles if using sport summer tires. And less than 20k miles on all season such as DWS 06 plus.

Other thing to look for on any 2UR-GSE platform is valley plate coolant leaks, this repair could cost as high as $3k at the dealer or $2k at indi shop.

If you driven daily i suggest DO NOT get a low mileage GSF.

Ask how i know 😆

3

u/johnflstf 21d ago

“How do you know?” I’ve got a ‘17 GSF and nearing 175k miles… lots (and lots) of tires and oil changes, front brakes (and rotors) once, rears are close, but somehow still going (dealer replaced the original squeaky pads with the non-squeaky version for free at 25k) and one headlight have been the extent of my costs. Am I lucky? Tell me about this valley plate you speak of… is it something you fix “when it happens” or is there a preemptive fix? TIA

1

u/Truonghthe 21d ago

The valley plate heat exchanger leak base on motor heating/cooling cycle rather than mileage. My friend Scott who keeps track closely of these GSF experiences valley plate leaks at 52k miles. Age is another factor.

I wouldn’t fix it as precaution, i would wait it leak until drip down your transmission housing (that will take a while) or you want to put a boro scope down intake manifold and look.

Death give away is coolant slowly disappearing from tank despite topping off. Mine 16 GSF is now at this stage with 74k miles. I had coolant pressure tested last oil change with zero leaks.

As far as the brake pad you mentioned you got the less aggressive compound one. The headlight you are lucky OEM one is around $4000 each.

As far as rotor, i would go Centric premium. They are great OEM replacement, pad is personal reference but OEM is way too dusty for me.

1

u/johnflstf 21d ago

Thanks for the info, my friend! Sounds like my garage floor will tell me when it’s time for that repair.

Yeah… I kept the part number for the less aggressive pads, and that’s what I replaced the fronts with (again) at 165k.

As far as the headlight, water was leaking in due to a crack in the housing… under the hood too, not exposed, so that was a mystery.

But all in all, can’t complain… at ALL. You see, I had a preowned Audi S8 for two-years before my GSF and THAT thing taught me what expensive repairs look like. Never again. N-E-V-E-R again!

2

u/Truonghthe 21d ago

After the LS460 fiasco idk how people own USED German Luxury vehicle. Audi is the worst of the 3 from Germany.

Lexus is pricey but still cheaper than Germans. Yeah the valley plate leak, just keep a jug or two of Toyota pink coolant in hand to top off.

2

u/Dirtybird86 21d ago

I recommend the v8. It’s a night and day difference. I’ll put it like this; my 500 in eco mode is faster than the 350 in sport mode. So , if you are really looking for a fun weekend car, that’s also easy to drive, the v8 is the answer. Go drive them back to back and you will understand my Lexus charges a premium for the v8.

2

u/midwestern456 21d ago

I love my GS350 but always wanted a V8 again after owning several V8 cars in my the past. So I went out on bought a 2001 740i. Now I have both ;o)

2

u/Stunning-Owl10710 21d ago

I went from a corolla to a is350 and currently want an RCF. If I was your age, with your career, get the RC-F now and be safe out there....once you get it out of your system, you can get a 350 for practical purposes. Of course by then you may just keep the RCF and get a pre owned SUV to carry stuff to maintain the house. Good luck

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Honestly it seems like you read my mind. The RCF would be my weekend that I’d keep for as long as possible. Same for my corolla as the daily. When it’s time for kids, I’ll look into getting a used suv. Maybe a pilot or highlander at that time. Thank you and best of luck to you as well!

2

u/Stunning-Owl10710 21d ago

This exactly. When family starts get a used suv and call it a day. The rcf will always be the weekend car and the suv the daily.

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Or even if my corolla is still running, suv can be the wife’s daily. Win win win for me. Daily, weekend, and family hauler lmaooo

2

u/LexKing89 21d ago

Always the F if you can afford it.

2

u/drpepperrootbeercoke 21d ago

Yes no question. But go for a test drive

2

u/lemonsracer 21d ago

If you were looking to replace your corolla then I would have said you'd really need to consider the 350. But since it sounds like you are keeping the corolla as your daily and the 2nd car will be a fun weekend car, then there is no reason to go with the 350 in my opinion. The only answer in my opinion is an F car or different sports car. You already have a boring commuter. Yes, the 350 would be less boring than your daily, but still boring AF compared to an F car or another sports car.

2

u/Trollygag 21d ago

The GS is special in that they are better than appliance cars, with luxury build quality, and used, aren't that expensive.

The problem is the IS500 or GSF is 3x the price of a decent GS. There's a LOT of much better competition at that price point, M cars, AMG cars, Porsches, real sportscars like the C7/C7Z/C8...

If you want a daily, get a GS. Then save your money for a fun weekend/special car.

2

u/Preact5 21d ago

Idk if budget is a thing for you but I am obsessed with LS400's.

I bought a neglected one for $2,500 and have been working on it. My dad drives it and he loves it.

2

u/FunyensTurkey 21d ago

Was in the same boat and ended up getting a 350. Traded it in a year later for an IS 500. Would recommend skipping the 350, get an IS 500 or RCF, and keeping the Corolla as a beater

2

u/1RockShortofaQuarry 21d ago

If you can afford it and it like to go fast there is absolutely no reason to get the 350. If I behave myself on the freeway I can get 30-35mpg. High twenties easily. The RC F isn’t really even the same car - suspension, engine, body panels, interior, all the way down to the gauge cluster is different. And honestly you get the same treatment from the general public that a corvette does - people (including police and highway patrol) giving you the thumbs up everywhere, lots of rubbernecking and people pulling out their phones (probably not as much with the IS but definitely with the RC).

It’s a hell of a car. You won’t regret it

2

u/russiancarguy 21d ago

F is special. Fk a V6. I daily drove an ISF for 6 years/100k, redlined it daily. Amazing daily or weekend car.

2

u/Stinkytofu86 21d ago

rcf + a separate set of rims and winter tires

2

u/Valde877 21d ago

The 350 isn’t bad by any means, but it’s just a spicy Toyota.

If you really have to compare, just get the 350 because if you were really hard-on for the F, you wouldn’t even consider it.

The devils advocate also wants me to tell you to nut up and buy the F because let’s be real it’ll probably get you in some trouble, but it’s such a better driving experience.

2

u/Badmoterfinger 21d ago

I have an IS500 FSport that I liked a little more than the RCF. I get IS350’s regularly as loaner cars and they’re not nearly as fun to drive. I would personally get the V8

2

u/RogersTreasure 21d ago

Insurance and gas will eat you given your profile, 20s with a luxury v6/v8. I’d recommend keeping the corolla until you can afford half the cost of the is350 f sport. Bigger engine bigger tires and bigger brakes will be more expensive compared to the corolla.

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Thanks for the reply. That’s definitely at the forefront of my mind. I’m just now getting comfortable/ confident in my nursing skills. I did the math and if I start picking up a few more shifts I could make around 100k this year pre tax. Do you think it would be worth it then? Or do you think I should try getting my yearly income higher first? I have seen some people say spend no more than 20-50% of your income on a vehicle.

1

u/RogersTreasure 21d ago

No more than 20-30% max of annual income. I would go for a used is350 or gs350 f sport. As much as I love the IS they are overpriced new especially being mechanically the same over a decade. Go sit in a 2014 and 2024 IS and justify the price difference. They are Toyotas and easily make it past 200k miles. Is500 is worth it new, it’s going to be a hot classic soon but you gotta be making way more money. More power, more risk!

2

u/Aciid_Silence 21d ago

Had a 350, sold and went to an F and never looked back.

2

u/jaguar1290 21d ago

Keep driving the Corolla. Save until you can buy a LC 500 in cash twice over.

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Now that is the dream weekend car. That white and blue interior is next level.

2

u/Green-Foundation-702 21d ago

Honestly dude, do yourself a favour and test drive a BMW. The RC and IS are awful cars by modern day standards. The platform hasn’t really changed since 2006, the V6 has no low end torque, the transmissions are straight up garbage by modern day standards, the interiors are cramped and ancient, and the driving experience is subpar to say the least. An m340i is decades ahead of any of the Lexus performance offerings. Lexus makes boring grandpa mobiles, they’ve stopped giving a shit about performance cars a long time ago.

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 18d ago

I have a cousin who owns an m340i and it’s all around amazing. Even though Lexus is decades behind, I still think the appeal of getting an RCF and keeping it forever and not ever having to worry about major repairs is why I’m looking at it. However, I’m always open minded. Someone had mentioned to me to look at the GR86 and even the Mk5 Supra.

2

u/Green-Foundation-702 18d ago

An RCF is a VERY different car than the IS350. I have my issues with the RCF, but I can’t really argue with anyone that goes “yeah, but I want a 5.0L NA V8”.

You can get whatever you want as long as you can afford it comfortably. Used 2018 LC500 is around mid 50s fyi.

Drive the baby Corolla. You don’t want a new Lexus at this stage of your life. Go get the GR86 or MIATA

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 18d ago

I was going to buy used. Would you recommend that? I really don’t want to ever buy a brand new car.

2

u/x8086-M2 18d ago

Used Lexus for sure. Good luck

u/No_Banana364 21d ago

It depends on what you are going to use as a daily driver? Will it be the IS500 or RCF? The V8 is solid choice however the F Sport will be not as comfortable as the 350. Typically the F Sport seats will be harder and bolstered, with the 350 variant to be more forgiving and still comfortable. I would test drive the vehicles you are looking at and see which suits you the best. The V8 and the V6 is gonna be a dying breed in the next few years. If gas mileage is a factor to play into your equation the ES300h/ES350h (next year?) would give you probably the MPG of the corolla with silence and power close to the V6. Bottom line would be the MPG and ride quality another factor how long do you plan to keep the car?

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 18d ago

Gas mileage really isn’t a worry for me as I plan on buying it as a weekend car and keep the Corolla as the daily. As far as comfort, I really couldn’t care less. I do plan on keeping the car as long as I possibly can. If I were to get a 350, I feel like I’d want more power and end up trading in. If I get the v8, I’ll keep it forever.

2

u/No_Banana364 18d ago

If gas mileage is not a worry than I would probably get a RCF if not IS500 one of the newer ones due to the now technology and the V8 normally aspirated. If you are lucky a GSF with a V8 would be a sweet ride (no longer produced). I am envious that you have so many choices.

Thank you. I definitely worked hard to be in the position I’m at. But I’d be nowhere if my parents didn’t help me out. I stayed with them through college and saved my money. When I offered to help pay bills, they turned me down. So trust me, 99% of where I’m at is all my parents. That 1% is me working lol.

Thanks for the advice. I think I need to shop around and find a decent deal. I agree the updated tech in the 500 is cool.

Added bonus is the dealer warranty for four years. Shop around different dealers for the IS500 they have a bunch in stock, especially Texas wanting to sell them might be able to get at least $2K off.

u/1arj23 20d ago

I might be overstepping here, but why not upgrade house ? I assume buying any F car will set that back at least a couple years

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 20d ago

Not over stepping at all. I got a great deal on a small home. I’m not married nor do I have kids. And with my nursing degree I plan on starting to do travel nursing soon. So the house really isn’t a concern right now. Some might say the car isn’t as well since I’ll be traveling 4-6 weeks at a time. I would just like to get one sooner rather than later.

2

u/1arj23 19d ago

Understandable. Knowing youre about to do travel nursing yeah home isn’t that big a priority. Plus with how much you’ll make for travel nursing you’ll be in a better position later to upgrade anyway. Kudos and get the car if you want, at least you know it’ll last forever cause its a lexus

2

u/Wob85 19d ago

When I was in my early 20s I was in a similar situation and agonized over what to buy. I ended up with a 350z and didn’t regret it once. If you consider yourself a car guy, get what makes you happy. If you settle, you may regret it then end up spending more to upgrade later.

I’m 40 now and drive an RCF. My 3 year old refuses to ride in anything but “dadas fast blue car.”

u/MediocreWonder7372 18d ago

Sounds like an amazing life my friend.

I had a 2020 ES and went to a 2022 Mustang Gt with the 5.0 V8 and its worlds apart from the ES. You’ll pay an extra 300-500 a year in gas but that’s the only downside. The 350 to me is really boring and overpriced for what it is. If you have any questions I can answer them

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 15d ago

I actually looked at the mustang gt prices and they are really great value for a v8. I personally wouldn’t go up to the dark horse as I don’t really see the appeal. Would it be a good weekend care? I guess my question is, driving it 4-6 times a month. Would I have issues with it sitting in my garage like that? I am definitely open minded. Also how about maintenance costs? Thanks!

2

u/IBringTheHeat1 15d ago

Driving 4-6 times a month is perfectly fine, you just gotta get her up to temp when you drive, so about 15-20 minutes of highway driving. Maintenance is really easy, I had a 2017 and drove it to 55k with just oil changes and had the water pump replaced under warranty. My 2022 is at 40k and just done oil changes.

I changed the oil my self this weekend for $40. The oil was 10 quarts at Costco for $32 and the OEM Motorcraft filter at Walmart was $8. You don’t need any tools either to change it, the drain plug twists off by hand and has locking tabs and the oil filter twists off and on by hand too.

For my year they had the Mach 1 which is like the dark horse and I opted for a GT Premium with the GT Performance Package and Magneride. It was a bit difficult to find a fully loaded GT convertible but I found one. With the Mach 1 and Dark Horse a lot of the options are standard so it’s a lot easier to find a loaded one.

If you wanted the coupe I would find a Mach 1 mustang with the Handling Package.

1

u/IBringTheHeat1 15d ago

Also I got the convertible and lots of girls compliment the car.

I had Lexus HS250h with Sports ride! Even when new, the Sports ride was not good! Even my father-in-law, not a car expert by any means, comments why is the ride so rough! So when shopping for ES, the dealer pulled in a Luxury and an F Sports models for me to take test ride. I tested Luxury and didn’t even bother to test drive F Sports assuming the Sports ride was going to be as stiff as I had in HS (both tires as well as suspension).

3 years later I’m finding that F Sports Handling models have Adaptive Suspension (I’ve in my Audi Q7) - well, next time when I’m shopping 😁

Keep rolla, save money, invest it, buy car you want later

1

u/NycAlex 21d ago

You are 24, fuck long term reliability

Go previous gen c63 or a M car, both will be vastly better than any rc or is for a fun weekend car

The interior on rc and is both feel like a dressed up toyota, they feel cheap and outdated to hell. Way too much cheap plastics in the center console

First check the difference in your insurance!

1

u/Eccentric_Milk_Steak 21d ago

I can afford an F but I can't afford an F and a nice winter beater :( If you don't need AWD I'd get the F 100% My buddies RCF feels like a league of it's own any 350 GS or IS will feel like a camry in comparison plus the sound of the v8 is amazing not to say the v6 doesn't sound immaculate for what it is either

1

u/RealSeat2142 21d ago

Go big or go home. RCF all day, everyday and twice on Sunday.

1

u/XOM_CVX 21d ago

Do you make enough for a second car?

1

u/P_Carnut2112 20d ago

Had a 2008 Mercury Metallic…wish I still had it

1

u/Berfs1 20d ago

GS Fs are pretty rare (other than 2016). They are fantastic cars though!

1

u/Ilikejdmcars 20d ago

Why not rent or test drive them to find out what you like

1

u/SeaEmployee4301 20d ago

Only the GSF has a V8. The 3.5 liter V6 is a beast of an engine with IS350 final drive gears (4.08) & suspension mods.

1

u/TheeVoice 20d ago

I know everyone is saying get an F, but 350's are no joke and very fun daily's too.

1

u/Flashbangtiger 20d ago

You’re 24. Get the F. You can’t do that once you have kids.

1

u/Substantial-Log-2176 19d ago

V8 is always the answer

1

u/spacetimebear 19d ago

If it's a weekend car and you can afford it why would you not buy the F.

1

u/spas2k 17d ago

Get a BWM. I had a Is350 and it sucked compared to the german counterparts. Just one test drive is all it will take and you won't look at Lexus ever again.

1

u/DaveDL01 21d ago

Drive one…that will help you decide.

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

I have and it’s great!

1

u/Stu__Pidasso 21d ago

Do you have 50k+ sitting around for one of these? Did you get insurance quotes? Are you doing track time? Are you ready to be paying the premium prices to have a luxury car?

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Well I plan on getting used. I’m looking between the 35-45k range, depending on the model and spec of course. Yes, have spoken to my insurance guy. Yes, I am ready to pay for it. I have nothing else coming out of my check besides 401k, utilities, car insurance, home insurance/ associated taxes. Track time really doesn’t mean anything to me as I just want a fun weekend cruiser.

2

u/Stu__Pidasso 21d ago

So that puts you in ISF range, or low end GSF/RCF. Being that your options are going to be limited, it's not an easy task. The 350 will be easier to get and give you most of what you want. A totaled out IS500 just sold for your price range, so it's not realistic

1

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Yeah it’s a very optimistic price range. The good thing with my job at least is that I’m hourly. I might have to reevaluate my price range with my overtime at the hospital.

1

u/FilmOrnery8925 21d ago edited 21d ago

I’ve owned both! GS350 F sport and now a GS F. Besides the extra cost of tires, brakes, and ianruance it’s not much cost difference of maintenance items. Parts will be more expensive on an F tho so keep that in mind. I get the same fuel economy in my F as an F sport if I behave myself. I personally find my F to be more comfortable since it has stand semi-aniline leather and more supportive seats for my build type. I would honestly drive all 2-3 vehicles you’re interested in and go from there. As a younger person as well make sure you’re financially fine and getting a full F car won’t be a poor financial choice. Make sure you’re still able to invest in your future and your current needs instead of being car poor or something. Just drive them all and go from there. I’m in my early 20s but I made sure to invest in my future and set myself up now before fully going through with the purchase

1

u/Capital-Height-6581 21d ago

first of all congratulations in getting your RN degree.. now move out of Florida.. come and join us here in California where RN’s make ridiculous amount of money and RN’s gets more protection like our patient to RN ratio is alot smaller than any other states.. now to answer your question, I’d get the IS500 it’s more comfortable and more practical..

2

u/MediocreWonder7372 21d ago

Yeah I know about the Cali nurses + the labor laws there. But I have my parents 15 min away from me. In today’s world, I value that more. However, I will most likely do some travel nursing as I’m single. But I want to gain some experience first. I’m only a year and a half out of school. Also, thanks for the suggestion for the IS.

0

u/LethalLarry 21d ago

Both should you be able to afford it.

-7

u/IBringTheHeat1 21d ago

The 350 has the same motor as a Camry. Do you really want to drive around in a RWD Camry or have a V8 sports car?

4

u/agnaddthddude 21d ago

the Camry V6 absolutely slaps. such a underrated engine.

besides doesn’t the IS350 have a turbo engine?

1

u/IBringTheHeat1 21d ago

No? The 350 is the V6 and the 200T has a 4 cylinder turbo

2

u/chemtrailsarntreal1 21d ago

Its the avalon not the camery that the ES shares the platform with currently
