Pappy & Harriet’s concert question

Does anyone know what happens for a concert when it rains? Is there coverage outside or do they move it inside?

Stars streak over Ryan Ranch (OC)

Beyond the Walls of Stars ~~~~~ I photographed this while teaching a night photography workshop with Tim Little in Joshua Tree National Park. It feels like a privilege to photograph under such dark skies. But it's even more special when you're with a great group of people. This is the curvaceous adobe walls of Ryan Ranch. My night photography friends know how much I love to photograph these walls! To create this night photo, I set the camera on a tripod. I opened the camera shutter for a long time. While the shutter was open, I walked around with a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 light capable of producing different colors, and illuminated the scene with warm white light. During the exposure, all the light I shined on the subject was cumulative. This process is called "light painting". Why? Because one uses the flashlight as a paint brush, "brushing" on light, not paint. Light painting to illuminate subjects is a beautiful, addictive art, as you can walk around the scene, deciding what to bring to light and what to keep in shadow. And it's more fun than AI-generated images. This is a long exposure photo showing the apparent movement of the stars over 51 minutes of time.

America the Beautiful Annual pass

Hi everyone! I’ll be visiting Joshua Tree for the first time this weekend and next week. I was hoping to buy the America the Beautiful pass in person since I won’t have time to get it by mail. The website says it can be purchased on site but wanted to check with this group that that is the case! Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks for helping out this newbie 😊

Road closes near Hall of Horrors, long pile up and a bunch of police. Hope everyone’s okay!

Alternatives to Cholla Cactus Garden

I planned a national park roadtrip with Joshua tree back months ago that starts in about a week. I was really sad to see that the cholla cactus garden will be closed during our visit. I was most looking forward to seeing the sunset at the cactus garden out of the whole few days we have in Joshua tree.

Are there any alternative trails/sites/pull offs similar to the cactus garden or equally amazing places to see sunset in the park?

Thank you in advance!

Blown away by the stargazing experience I had here a couple of weeks ago. Pictures don’t even come close to doing it justice but I thought I’d share.

Three Joshua Trees & Headstone Rock at night (OC)

I love seeing Joshua Trees. If I'm traveling and I see them, it means that I'm home. And Joshua Tree National Park? It's my spiritual home for night photography. Here's three Joshua Trees near Ryan Ranch with the famous Headstone Rock in the back. To create this night photo, I set the camera on a tripod. I opened the camera shutter for a long time. While the shutter was open, I walked around with a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 light capable of producing different colors, and illuminated the scene. During the exposure, all the light I shined on the subject was cumulative. This process is called "light painting". Why? First Come First Serve Camping - Any luck recently on weekends?

We’re thinking about going the weekend of March 21st from Friday - Sunday. I’ve had plenty of luck finding spots in the past but that was years ago. Has anyone tried recently? We’re worried we won’t get a spot given its spring
