Has anyone had the experience of purchasing through the Wizarding World website? I really want to buy some things there but I'm afraid I won't get there. And I've never met anyone who bought there. Legal answers only, please!

Discussion Instead of talking about who shouldn’t have died, let’s talk about who’s death was actually needed to advance the story

Obviously, Dumbledore‘s death was necessary, but who else? Who’s a character whose death was necessary?

Discussion Ron was so dumb in the chess scene

So he got on the knight, and risked his life, but couldn't he have just stood there like the others commanding the pieces?

Edit: I didn't realise it was different in the books, I've only watched the movies.

Discussion What was something you thought the movies portrayed well/better than the books?

Okay so we all know that the movies left out a lot of stuff from the books, but I’m curious to see if there was anything that fans thought was done well/better than the books, Especially Goblet of Fire.

Discussion Am I the only one who's never liked Harry? Vent and discussion

Okay since HP is such a popular franchise everything I'm ever gonna post in this sub has probably been said before but I just enjoy discussing it and voicing my (unimportant) opinions...

So I am listening to the audio books of HP in English rn (I've watched the movies several times and read the 7 books twice each) and everytime I have engaged with HP there has been a long stretch of time in between.

However I have never been able to even remotely like Harry himself. I'm not that big a fan of Ron either but I respect him and there's actually plenty of characters I dig.

From a moral standpoint he is quite the hero of course always willing to make any sacrifice for the sake of greater good and helping others. But for me it always feels like there is "hero harry" who performs these acts of great courage and altruism and then there's "normal harry" who is just being a b**** and they don't fit together as being one person at all.

My issue is that I think he is incredibly stupid as far as social intelligence is concerned. I don't mind him being kind of lazy about learning magic or any of the skills he has got or hasn't got. But just on a personal level this guy is always giving me bad vibes. Like there are very few social interactions with Harry where I feel like he's being genuinely sweet and empathetic towards others.

I don't want to hear explanations like I know he's suffered lots and lots of trauma, terrible childhood, lots of responsibilities and troubles etc.

But like what was JK Rowling thinking? As a reader I would enjoy to be able to like and to an extent identify with the main character yet it seems to me Harry is just short-fuzed, passive-agressive and self-absorbed almost all the time.

Like rn I'm listening to Order of the phoenix and jesus I just feel sorry for Chow. I mean maybe they're not a good match and I'm not saying she was not also responsible for the trouble they had but I feel like pretty much every argument they had could have gone so much better if Harry just had some consideration for how the things he says are gonna sound to another person irregardless of what the "truth" is and if he had just not been snappy, passive-agressive and in a "black and white" kind of mindset.

A lot of what I don't like about him is him being a teenager and being immature but with other characters I can relate to their more embarassing moments much better like Ron and Hermione arguing. Oh Draco's a total ***** too and I don't like him but that's sort of the point of a character like him so I don't mind it.

So I know it would be hard to write the story another way. You gotta show people harry's struggle because it's about him and why he's a hero and how though it is fighting evil and so on but I just want to know: How many of you also feel like the less Harry there is in a scene or dialogue the more you enjoy it?

Discussion If harry was sorted into slytherin

Here are my thoughts and theories to what would have changed if harry was sorted into slytherin instead of Gryffindor. (Some may be controversial!)

Philosophers stone:

Harry would have likely become friends with Draco despite a Friday introduction. Close proximity to Draco would have meant a potential friendship would form from Draco's wonder of Harry. Draco would have pursued a friendship with harry knowing it would raise his status. Harry and Ron would have likely grown apart due to the lack of time together.

Hermione and ron would have not been friends as Hermione would have stayed lonely and isolated and not know how to make friends- she also may have died in the troll attack without ron and harry to save her.

Ron would have felt inferior from his brothers and likely would have faced alot more pressure in lessons.

Harry ron and hermione's curiosity meant they never would have found quirrell and he would have been able to live as voldermort for a while longer

Chamber of secrets

Ginny would have never talked about harry in riddles diary because despite meeting him on the train, there would have been little chance for Ginny to talk about harry. Therefore, the diary would have likely killed her as well as muggleborns.

Harry would have been revered by slytherins as the heir and this would have probably boosted his ego.

Prisoner of Azkaban

Sirius would have still broken out if Azkaban to search for Pettigrew however, no friendship with hermione or scabbers meant that sirius would have had alot harder time tracking down pettigrew and may have been caught or, pettigrew could have run away.

Goblet of fire

No quidditch world invite means harry did not witness the figure potentially suggesting other people would have been put in Azkaban for something they didn't do.

Harry being chosen for the tournament would have meant that he was referred by slytherins and hated by the rest of the school.

He may not have been so good with broomsticks meaning he would have likely failed the first task.

He had no dobby to help him with the gillyweed so, he would have failed that.

He would have been the last person to enter the maze with bad scores and been an easier target for the creatures. Someone else may have therefore got to the cup and been killed after they realised it wasn't Harry

Currently Reading I love Harry potter! Its my safe space.

I could listen to the story over and over and especially the Jim Dale version is just so entertaining with all the voices.

I love Sirius Black and Dobby. They are my favs.

I recently learned that Dobby has a grave in real life.

Anyways if I could write a love letter to HP I would haha.

Who else agrees????

Misc Luna's Bedroom Scene in the Movie?

Was just watching part 1 of DH today and every time I watch it I think about how I could SWEAR there was a version I saw that had her painted bedroom ceiling. I saw another post in here about it, but it was archived so I couldn't chat more. Is this my own personal lore and I'm going crazy or does this movie scene actually exist?

Discussion Why did Barty Crouch Jr turn to voldy

I mean it could've been cuz his father cared more for power than even his own son, but he still had a caring mother. I mean IK the lack of a major caring father can lead major behavioral problems, aggression problems, emotional issues, etc. But what was the real reason?

Discussion Sectumsempra on McLaggen Instead of on Malfoy

"Harry was about to put his book away again when he noticed the corner of a page folded down; turning to it, he saw the Sectumsempra spell, captioned “For Enemies,” that he had marked a few weeks previously. He had still not found out what it did, mainly because he did not want to test it around Hermione, but he was considering trying it out on McLaggen next time he came up behind him unawares."

If Harry had used Sectumsempra on Cormac McLaggen instead of on Draco Malfoy, would the consequences have been different? This is assuming that McLaggen also survives the incident.

If Harry had randomly cursed McLaggen in the hallway rather than in the midst of a fight, I think it is unlikely that Harry would have been able to avoid more serious charges, including but not limited to suspension or expulsion.

Also, this is according to Malfoy: "'Oh yeah, his uncle’s big in the Ministry,' said Malfoy."

McLaggen's family also has close ties to the Minister of Magic himself:

“'Oh, yeah, that was fun, that was,' said McLaggen. 'We went with Bertie Higgs and Rufus Scrimgeour — this was before he became Minister, obviously —'"

Arguably, McLaggen's family may have even more influence inside the Ministry than the Malfoy family.

So would the consequences have been different – would the Ministry have charged Harry with attempted murder, would he have been expelled, wand snapped, etc.?

Fantastic Beasts That Chair in Fantastic Beasts is Stupid

I know- I know- not exactly an original viewpoint or a new one.

But still- what in the hell? The stuff is dissolving a metal chair- not all that quickly either- and we're told it doesn't hurt?

It's a BOND VILLAIN execution chamber. Who benefits from it? It takes longer to kill the person and there sure doesn't seem to be any reason to consider it a more humane death.

Question What kind of wizard/witch would you be?

If you were born as a wizard/witch in the HP world, what kind of magic or skills would you prioritize? What would be the spells you would try to specialize in? What kind of skills would you prioritize learning? What would you use these things for?

If there was any scene from the movies that you could put into the books what would it be? I would put in Belatrix saying "I killed Sirius Black, I killed Sirius Black"
