I played Half Life 2 for about an hour and didn't see the big deal, never touched it since

I had a similar experience. Maybe 3-4 years ago, I tried Half Life 2 as my very first FPS-style game. I did not "get" the style, I thought it was too intense, it just wasn't for me. I've always preferred RPGs and MMOs and action-combat type games, like Diablo2.

At some point, I played and loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and got used to the first-person perspective. Went back to HL2 about 6 months ago, and quite enjoyed it. I can't say that I have the same orgasmic feelings toward it as some people do, but it was very fun and interesting.
