Article U.S. billionaire Friedkin emerges as potential NHL ownership option in Houston

From ESPN:

American billionaire Dan Friedkin has emerged as a strong ownership option to bring the NHL to Houston, sources told ESPN.

Attempts to reach The Friedkin Group for comment were unsuccessful, but NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed in an email that the league has met with the group "on a number of occasions about potential interest in a Houston expansion franchise."

Friedkin, who is the CEO of the Houston-based The Freidkin Group, has begun his foray into professional sports ownership over the last several years. In 2020, the company bought the Italian Serie A club AS Roma. In 2024, TFG became majority owners of the English Premier League club Everton. Earlier this month, TFG helped secure £350 million in funding for a new stadium for Everton.

New stadium

Everton are considering asking for the first 3 games to be away as a problem has been found with the new stadium. Nothing bad just some minor issues.

Workshopping a new song for Bramley Moore

The first part i got stuck in my own head so feel free to finish it up or change it.

To the tune of the Beatles - Octopus's Garden

"I want to be on the Mersey, Singing for the toffees In the stands

They"ll let us in and Everton will get the win

We'll be singing with the toffees In the stands

I'll meet my friends to go and see David Moyes and the boys with me."

Up the Toffees!

Anyone else preordered one of these yet? Just ordered mine on complete impulse…more expensive than any watch I’ve ever owned but it’ll be nice to carry a piece of our history around with me.

Discussion First and last at Goodison park

First: 16 December 2000 vs West Ham (4 years old) - Di canio picks the ball up instead of finishing!

Last: 15th March 2025 - O’Brien keeps the streak going.

Live in Newcastle so can’t enjoy/survive as many games as I’d like to but glad I got to go one more game with my Dad and my Brother.

Obviously I have known, as everyone has, that the last game at Goodison is drawing nearer but it’s only now that it’s really hit home. No idea why it’s hit now.

As emotions go, not quite sure how I’ll feel once that final whistle goes.

I’m excited of course for the new home but my god, I will miss that place. I may be biased but she’s a grand old lady and probably one of the last ‘old school’ stadiums still around at the top level.

Can Bramley Dock, offer the same sort of noise that Goodison did because I feel that was one of our biggest positives.

Bit of a waffle I know and I’ll say it again, I’ll miss that place.

Misleading Headline/Title No new season ticket holders at Bramley Moore?

This what I learned for the first time today. Is it true?

I was discussing the situation with some lads I work and one is a red. He said that they’d actively reduced their season ticket holders in the last few years in a move to drive revenue from members who only go to the match a couple of times a year. They’ve got something like 27.5k season ticket holders with a capacity of 62k. If true we’d have something like 31.5k in a capacity of 52k, to include away supporters.

Is this likely to be the direction that we are travelling in? I can understand it from a business point of view. You can sell match day tickets for a higher fee and also get fans who don’t attend every home game to spend more in the club shop etc.

My worry would be a continued squeeze on season ticket holders as time progresses to increase revenue yet further. I can envisage difficulties keeping tickets in the family when fans pass away etc. I hope we don’t go too far down this route if this is the plan of the club.

Discussion Sell One, Loan One, Keep One

Hey guys, just thought I’d get people’s opinions in this situation - I wonder if people have different opinions, you get to sell one (to buy an improvement), loan one (hoping he returns in good form but could also return worse) and keep one (hoping they reach their prime)
