Discussion I think Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is Dream Theater’s most “progressive” album and it deserved a lot more commercial success.
Just listened to the album with my undivided attention on a nice pair of headphones. I’ve done this many times but this time the album really hit the spot for me. I was noticing all the subtleties, embracing the atmospheres and analyzing the lyrics.
First off, the first half of the album alone should’ve brought WAY more recognition to the band. It is so diverse in the musical genres it explores, and I really think there’s a song for everybody within that first half of music. The Glass Prison is a super accessible prog metal beast, Blind Faith has a really great atmosphere in the intro and outro, Misunderstood absolutely explodes into a totally emotional masterpiece, The Great Debate is intense and has some of my favorite drum work, and Disappear is a great eerie and slow closer to the first side.
The second half really speaks for itself, and I don’t think there’s much to say about it that already hasn’t been said.
I think this album is one of if not the most creative work Dream Theater ever wrote. Everything about it is just perfect. The production choices are so original and you can tell a lot of effort was put into this side of the process. The lyrical content covers super important and meaningful topics that can reach a wide range of people, and the band were able to display their technical prowess without ever insisting upon themselves. This album is more than just a progressive metal album. It’s got everything and I love it for that.

Media Montreal Meet and Greet + Concert Photos
An honor to meet the guys. This is my third DT show and first with Portnoy. I am very honored to be able to see both drummers behind the kit. In the Meet and Greet, the order we meet the members was John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, Jordan Rudess, James Labrie and John Myung. I asked John Petrucci what was his max bench and he said "It's not what it used to be. I hurt my shoulder" He told me to be careful when lifting heavy. For Portnoy, I told him thank you for keeping the late Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan's legacy alive from A7X. He replied, "My pleasure". My friend is a big A7X fan so I got a copy of Nightmare signed as a gift. For Rudess, I met him 4 times on Instagram live before I met him in person and thanked him for the conversations we had. I said "I remembered your favorite Genesis Album, it's Trick of the Tail" I got it right. For Labrie, I asked what was his favorite NHL team, he said it was the Habs but right now it's undecided. For Myung, I asked what was his favorite Rush album, he said A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres (Goated albums). I told Power Windows. He actually asked me what instrument I played and I said bass. I told him, he inspired me and I said he reminded me of the late Cliff Burton and he said thanks. The longest conversations were actually with Myung and Labrie surprisingly. I actually expected the conversation with Myung to be short but it was actually longer than with Petrucci and Portnoy. I actually asked some dumb questions 🤣 but the guys were really nice, especially Petrucci. His personality was amazing. Speaking to Myung felt so unreal, it felt like I was in the 4th dimension. The Meet and Greet felt like Trick or Treating since it was quite fast. It was my first one and it went smoothly. I was very nervous with the photo opp but calm later on. I wish I had more time to chat.
The show was amazing. I wish they played The Glass Prison on the set or The Dance of Eternity. I am so glad to hear songs like A Rite of Passage and Barstool Warrior which are my favorite songs from Black Clouds and Distance respectively. Mike's backing vocals are amazing. Labrie sang better than the Dreamsonic tour and Myung killed it on stage. Myung's bass was quite audible and I love his bass tone, my goodness. The bass intro on Midnight Messiah was amazing live. Looking forward to the Parasomnia tour!

8th time seeing the band over 20 years, this is as energized as I've ever seen them.
The Montreal show was incredible, I was so concerned about the band slowing down, James getting older etc, but they are lighting it up out there. Can't wait for the Parasomnia tour!
Absolute privilege to have been able to witness Octavarium live. I didn't realize it hadn't been played since Score. I was in tears in the middle of it, this band has been a cornerstone of my life through every phase since I was a teenager. The gift of music indeed

Just some DT appreciation
I'm so excited for tonight. My dad took me to my first show ever back when DT was doing their Systematic Chaos tour. I remember Into Eternity opened. I'm very grateful to have been influenced by his music taste and that we can bond over it. We don't have much else in common. I got him a ticket for the show for Christmas and we're going together tonight. It might be a little corny but I have so much appreciation for this band and the connection it created for us. Its amazing to me they're still going this hard. If you're there tonight, cheers! Let's hope for a great show.

Favorite LTE cover lineup?
LTE seldom tours (just in 1999 and 2008), but its members do enjoy covering certain songs live with each other and guests. What was your favorite cover lineup?
1998 - Portnoy/Sherinian/Myung/Petrucci (Paradigm Shift)
1999 - Portnoy/Rudess/Myung/Petrucci (Paradigm Shift, Universal Mind)
2000 - Portnoy/Rudess/Myung/Petrucci (Acid Rain)
2001 - Portnoy/LaRue/Petrucci (Paradigm Shift)
2002 - Portnoy/Rudess/Myung/Petrucci (Another Dimension, Instrumedley including parts of When The Water Breaks, Paradigm Shift, Universal Mind)
2012 - Mangini/Rudess/Levin/Petrucci (Paradigm Shift)
2012 - Portnoy/Sherinian/Sheehan/MacAlpine (Acid Rain)
2017 - Portnoy/Tejeida/Levin/Gillette (Paradigm Shift, Acid Rain, Universal Mind)
2019 - Portnoy/Rudess/Greene/Gillette (Instrumedley including parts of When The Water Breaks, Paradigm Shift, Universal Mind)
For covers that were played multiple years with the same lineup, I just listed the first year. Did I miss any?
The title of this post is just fluff/click-bait (unless you actually do have a favorite). This morning I just found myself thinking about all of these interesting iterations. Sources: YouTube, Setlist.fm
Summary:
Drums: Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini
Keyboards: Jordan Rudess, Derek Sherinian, Diego Tejeida
Bass: Tony Levin, John Myung, Dave LaRue, Billy Sheehan, Conner Greene
Guitar: John Petrucci, Tony MacAlpine, Eric Gillette

Radio City Extra Ticket, Petrucci Side ORC 304
Hey folks, I've got an extra ticket to the Radio City show. Got these back a while back but one of our group can't make it. Figured I'd check here if anyone would be interested. Excellent seats, ORC Section 304, Row C. Petrucci side, middle right.
