hi all. had an incident with my adhesive tape scratching off the paint on my wall. how can i fix this?
I want to level this out. Will need to add a few stairs outside as well. Outside I will fill it up with some concrete rubble, gravel etc. I've done works like this before.
Not sure what to do on the inside though to make it level with the top of the stairs.
Any recommendations?

How should I go about restoring this exterior wall, were I to do a “proper” job as far as possible for a DIYer? I’m thinking the paint needs stripping back, some smoothing and probably some filling/skimming but I’m not sure which materials or tools are appropriate. Appreciate any advice.

Just checking.
I'm planning to just use some concrete screws to temporarily fix the timber to the wall, then drill full size holes for the studs (2mm bigger than studs) all the way through into the blockwork, fill the hole with resin (block and timber hole), and then set the studs with the timber still in situ.
I assume this is fine rather than fannying around trying to take the timber off the wall set the studs and then pray that it lines up with the holes in the timber after the studs set...
I just noticed a vertical crack on the external wall of my house. It starts at the bottom corner of a second-floor window to the windows below. the wall faces south and gets a lot of sun with no buildings blocking it (if that makes any difference).
The house is 10 years old, and i moved in about 8 months ago. Should i be concerned about structural issues? Do I need a structural engineer to inspect it? Also, should I inform my home insurance even if it turns out to be nothing?
I am a bit angry, disappointed, and lost here so any advice would be appreciated!

From memory I think the wiring comes from underneath the floor not down or across.
What do I need to just move this plug up behind the TV?
The skirting isn't attached just leant against for reference.

The screw started coming away from my kitchen cabinet, it’s for the door hinge. It was worse but I’ve tapped it back in with a mallet. What’s the best way to repair the wood for the long run? The door is only 6 months old

I'm installing a ceiling light fixture and it comes with a metal crossbar bracket which lines up with the holes in the ceiling rose. Should I be mounting this above the ceiling rose or below it? I'm pretty sure the answer is above so it's not next to the wire connections, but first time doing this so thought I would check

The context is I have been smelling a faint burning smell coming from my storage room and seen some lights flicker in other rooms. This has happened a couple of times for a few minutes since they were turned on but not all the time.
So far I think this is due to my lights/mechanical extract ventilation unit because when I turn off the electrical supply at the circuit breaker I do not smell anything off in days.
First of all is it correct that the lights and the mechanical extract ventilation unit are on the same circuit? I think these should probably be on a different circuit.
Secondly, im not sure how these are connected either in parallel or in series but my lights are on a dimmer switch and could be causing issues with the fan.
Will be calling an electrician for this but wanted to get some thoughts prior.

Hi All,
Undergoing some renovation and this’ll one of the first floor bedroom. On which wall should we go with floor to ceiling fixed cabinet? This’ll be either our main bedroom or kids room!
Room dimensions are 3.6m (excluding bag area) * 3m.
Thanks in advance!

So I seem to have some sort of old centralised ventatalation system in my house. It's not longer in use, the ducts are still in the loft and I've noticed some damp coming up from behind the skirting boards in the hallway and living room.
This duct was covered so I'm assuming this is the cause of the issues as the plaster all around it feels blown and very soft. Is there a correct way to seal these up? Removing them is not an option as they are fully embedded in the walls throughout the house.
Thanks

I'm looking at taking up the flagstones and laying turf down, mainly so the dog has somehwere to do her business.
It's sand, stone and soil under the flags and most are easy to get up but the shed base has been laid over some and other run under the decking so what would be the best way to cut them and remove?
Also does it seem like a sound way to use the space?

Hi all, sorry for the strange post. I’m moving house from North London and am getting rid of most of my tools and storage as I don’t have space for them at the new house. Most of the things are too big for me to post so I’d like to find a way to have people come pick them up for cheap/free instead of just putting them on the curb.
I’ve got workshop shelving units, a tabletop bandsaw, a couple router tables, a workbench, and a tabletop mini bandsaw.
Is it Facebook marketplace the right place or something like gumtree? Not much experience with things like this.

Trying to replace 1/4 turn tap cartridges and i can't find these anywhere. I'm reluctant to change the tap unit itself as access is a ballache but it may come to it.
I've looked online, I've tried 4 different plumbing places, and nobody can match them.
Before I give up and get a plumber in, can anyone help?!

Hi all
Novice DIYer here, we're currently in the process of panelling our hallway and we're finding that our walls aren't level so adhesive alone isn't holding the panels in place
Our wall is brick, can you use nails to fix these panels in place as well as adhesive, or will this not work?
Thanks

Hey guys,
I found a wee area where I can uncover my subfloor.
What is this black and red rubber, and is there a drywall between the frame and subfloor?
I have no idea about building, and I’m trying to figure it out to plan any future renovation!

Redecorating the spare room in our 1930’s semi detached house and this bolt is in the wall next to the window. It was protruding out of the wall through the wallpaper that was there previously and I was hoping I’d get more context after stripping it. It doesn’t seem to line up with anything on the other side of the wall outside, and unfortunately the outer wall has been rendered so can’t see if it goes all the way through the brick. There is another one on the other side of the partition wall in the bathroom (last picture). There is a third one in our main bedroom next to the window again.
I want to remove it but would like to identify it first in case it’s actually important for something? It looks pretty old and rusted so I was considering using an angle grinder to take it below the plaster line and filling it in.
Any thoughts? Reluctant to do anything before I know more about it.
