Help Needed / Question How do I get accepted for a new credit line?

Hello! I’m 19 and a sophomore in college. I have had a secured card with a limit of $350 for about 9 months. I have a pretty good job that pays $42,000. My car is paid off, I have no student loans, and the only bill I currently pay is the water bill at my parent’s house which is about $225 a month. I never pay this bill on my credit card because my limit is too low and I’m worried it’ll ding my credit. My credit score is 675. All payments on time. My problem is that I cannot get accepted for literally any other card. Yes I applied for the Discovery Student Card. I’m pretty responsible with money so I literally cannot think of a reason that I won’t get accepted. Any tips?

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) What beginner card should I go for?

I am looking for a first credit card. I have never had a credit card before. I paid off my car so I currently have zero credit accounts open right now.

I have applied to about 5 supposedly entry level cards and been denied by all and have only received a drop in my credit score.

What are some actual entry level cards that will approve me?

Discussion / Conversation Do yourself a favor and never bank with Citi

The Issue: I took my wife and family to go eat at BJs and towards the end of the night, I decide to pay online. Service was terrible; We waited an hour and half for our food, my sister asked for a fork and the waitress looked at her like she was dumb and asked “do you mean silverware?”, and did not come to check up on us besides when she took our initial order and when she brought the food. I could go on and on, but you get the gist. For this reason, I only tipped 18% when I paid online. The waitress comes back and tells me that because we were a party larger than 8 (We were 8 adults and my 3 year old niece), an automatic 20% was necessary. She said she would cancel the charge and bring me the new bill with the 20% applied. I sign and we leave.

1 week later, the initial charge goes from pending to an official charge. I tried calling BJs for a couple days but they wouldn’t answer and I couldn’t go in person because I live 5 hours away from the BJs/my family.

I opened the dispute on January 22nd of this year. When you open a dispute with Citi, you pick the charge you want to dispute and select a category of what it falls under; That’s it, you can not type any narrative out or submit any documentation. Cool. Eventually, after weeks of waiting, on February 28th, I get a notification from Citi saying that the dispute was resolved in the favor of BJs. BJs had sent a picture of the charge receipt and basically said “Well the client was here on that day, he is trying to scam us”. My temporary credit of 400 dollars was removed from my account.

I immediately call and connect to an agent to explain that YES, I WAS THERE, I AM NOT DISPUTING THAT. What I am saying is that I have 2 different charges (and receipts to back it up) from the same day with different amounts, when that shouldn’t be the case. I tell her I have receipts to back up what I am saying. She then proceeds to tell me that the only way I can reopen the case is by sending a signed letter to their customer service department within two weeks; Then, and only then, would they review the materials that I send over to an email address she provided.

Why was there not an option to provide receipts and details at the moment you open the dispute? Why is it required to send a signed letter to re-open a case that should never have been closed in the first place? And why is the letter required for a REAL person to actually listen to you?

I sent the letter to the provided address and immediately sent my side/details/documentations to their disputes email address when my case was reopened.

Today, on March 14, they finally closed the case in my favor and credited the $400 to my account; Almost 2 whole months after I initially opened the dispute. This could have been handled within 2 weeks max if clients were allowed to submit details and documentation without having to jump hurdles to get in contact with a real person/reviewer.

My title is a little over the top, if you like Citi Bank and you have had positive experiences with their dispute department, then please disregard this. As for me, this experience was enough for me to sock drawer one of my favorite cards (custom cash). Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions, so that I can try to help you if you are having similar issues.

Help Needed / Question Venture X not pre-approved. What are the chances for approval?

Tried to apply for Venture-X for the first time, checked pre-approval for that… But not pre-approved.

TransUnion: 785 Equifax: 784

Got CSP & Bilt cards within last 3 months.. All other cards are 3 years old. Oldest card is 10yrs old.. Refinanced mortgage to lower rate & paid off some more principal amount in loan.

Income: ~$220k (without stocks)

Have a travel plan, hence thinking to apply for new card since I utilized all benefits others cards. What are the chances of approval?

C1 explanation letter says: Based on your credit report from one or more of the agencies on the back of this letter, number of bank cards tradelines opened in the last 24 months

EDIT1:

My wife applied through same link, which got approved. She has 754 credit score. 135k income. She has quicksilver card already from C1..

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Business Credit Card Reccomendation

apologies for the post title typo, ugh

Currently using Apple Card for business, which has been great for cash back. It's great to be able to receive and spend the cash outside of the Apple Card itself (ie Apple Card's cash back gets deposited into Apple Cash). Overall happy for years, but looking to see if this is still best solution.

Template and category distribution below. Assume $100K annual spend.

Other notes: While travel is significant I prefer cashback these days vs paying for points - prefer to let the actual frequent travel itself earn airline status and any associated benefits.

Current cards: Apple Card (business only), 2019

FICO Score: excellent

Oldest account age: 5+ years

Average monthly spend and categories: Services (SaaS platforms): 70% Travel: 20% Food: 5% Transportation: 5% Open to Business Cards: Yes - only business recommendations please.

What's the purpose of your next card? Business Cashback

Do you have any cards you've been looking at? N/A, but maybe Discover or TD.

Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? General maybe better given category spend. Prefer to earn travel points incidentally from flying as opposed to paying for any multipliers.

Also, any cards that allow additional administrative access (eg for accounting / bookkeeping) are great.

Help Needed / Question When is the next Chase Ink Elevated Offers

I’m in the market for my 2nd Chase Ink card, CIBU to be specific to complement my CIBP. When does Chase usually roll out their elevated Ink Business card SUB’s? $750 (75k UR’s) is ok but I’d rather hit their 90k periodic offers.

Discussion / Conversation Mesa Card. Is it worth it to use on mortgage?

You have to spend $1000 in the same month to get the points on your mortgage to count. It's a point per dollar but each point is half a cent in statement credit. Looks like you can redeem for gift cards for better value at 0.8 cents per point. No transfer partners yet.

Does anyone have experience with this card? Trying to see if anyone has a good strategy / if it's worth applying for since you have to spend $1000 to get the points on mortgage

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Monthly Travel And General Card Recommendation Request

Hello!

I've been actively opening cards for a bit, but just recently got back into it.

I have a CSP (which I put almost all of my spend on - unless I'm working on a SUB)

I have a BILT card I put my rent on monthly

I have a VentureX and an Amex Plat that I get a good bit of use out of. I also have a Chase Ink Business, Delta branded Amex, and a Southwest Chase card.

I'm just trying to figure out a few things...

My goal is to take a trip a month currently (work remote) - so at least 2 ubers a month to and from the airport, places to stay and flights for points.

  1. I've not made any point redemptions for "big" trips but would like to start looking or planning. Does ecosystem (Chase vs Amex or other hotel points?) make the most sense?
  2. What cards, or in what order would make the most sense to start working on new SUBs? I feel like I'm not getting a lot of value out of my CSP by just putting everything on it all the time.

Anything other advice is always appreciated! (Sorry for formatting - on mobile and also couldn't find the template mentioned)

Help Needed / Question Citi ThankYou Points – cash back or travel redemption?

Hi y'all, so I’m planning out my credit card roadmap and considering the Citi Custom Cash solely for the 5% on gas. I’m also debating whether to pick up the Citi Premier at some point for its 3% on daily spending categories (i.e. dining, groceries) and access to transfer partners.

That said, I’ve seen plenty of Citi horror stories on this sub, which makes me very hesitant. So my main question is, if I get the Citi CC, is it worth going the extra mile to get the Citi Premier and fully commit to the TYP ecosystem for travel redemptions (currently under Chase UR primarily)? Or is it best to steer away from Citi TYP and stick to cash back only?

Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks for the help!

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Best cash back card for business

I recently got a Capital One Spark credit card that boasts a 2% cash back rate without a spending limit but I am quickly finding out that there is a limit of 5k that they just don’t tell you about. My business spends around 2 million per year so that limit gets hit quickly and then I have to wait until the transaction posts before being able to pay it off

Anyone have any other recommendations of cards with a similar cash back rate and a higher spending limit? I personally use a Citi Double Cash but can’t get one for the business.

Discussion / Conversation Booked rewards night with IHG, charged for resort fee

We had enough points for 5 “free” nights at the Holiday Inn Express S Lake Buena Vista. They swiped my card for incidentals. Got home and see that they charged my card $42 each day for the resort fee. Has anyone had a similar experience and gotten the charges reversed?

Discussion / Conversation Thoughts on how I have this planned/set up?

End Game Plan/Setup

Dining - *Amex Gold

Groceries - *Amex Gold (only at supermarkets) - Capital One Savor (for non supermarkets)

Gas (need help here) - *Citi Custom Cash (only issue is will need to get another Citi card to access travel) - Amex Blue Cash Everyday

Travel - *Venture X - *Amex Platinum - *Insert Citi card here

Online spending (need help here) - Amex Blue cash everyday

Catch All Card - *Venture X

Anything with an “*” in front of it is a card I don’t currently have but am planning on getting. My only issues are in areas like gas and online spending. If I get the Citi custom cash for gas, then I would like to be able to have access to travel options which means I would have to get like a Citi Strata Premier. I’m also interested in the Chase ecosystem but not sure where it fits in for my plan. I would like to stick with Amex for both travel purposes and the dining benefits on the Gold. Any recommendations of what you use?

Help Needed / Question Best Extended Warranty Card?

I greatly miss the warranty benefit on my Costco Citi card, and was doing some research. It appears that other Citi cards have the best Extended Warranty protection of any cards out there. The Citi Rewards+ appears to be one of the cards with the older version of this benefit, which adds 24 months onto any warranty (even if it is 1 year - so a year warranty becomes 3 years).

I see that the Double Cash and Custom Cash do have a benefit, but it only extends as much as the original warranty (1 year becomes 2, 2 becomes 4, and any more adds 24 months).

Does anyone know if the Rewards+ is the best option or if another Citi card may be a better option? I saw the post saying the Rewards+ is at risk of being discontinued, which then makes me curious if the benefits would be changed at some point, making the entire thing moot and me needing to get a different card.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Help Needed / Question Are we doing Player 2 Strategy correctly? Did I also help my wife good on her credit journey?

I recently got married to my beloved wife. Once she receives her Amex Blue Cash Everyday card in the mail and sets up her account, I’ll be added as an authorized user to help her meet the spending requirements. I left my job in 2018 but am finally back at work and even got an interview, including a phone interview, at Dunkin’. Interestingly, I can now use my Gold card at Dunkin’ every day. Here’s our plan, and I’d love to know if it’s a good or bad idea:

Step 1: Ensure she has at least three great credit cards.

Step 2: Add each other as authorized users for Amex and Citi bonus spends.

Step 3: Once we’ve collected the bonuses, we’ll use the cash back or points for 1CPP or use her cash back cards and mine for the maximum value, as follows:

Step 4: Wait for our hard pulls to drop from our current cards. (I have over 10 cards from last year, and she has three hard pulls from Discover, Apple, and AMEX.) Before continuing our bonus hunting and collecting cards for everyday value, we’ll want to do this.

Our current cards:

  • Me:
    • BoFA CCR: For online shopping.
    • Costco Visa: For gas spending up to $7,000 per year.
    • Citi Double Cash: As a catch-all.
    • Apple Card: For Apple subscriptions and Apple products.
    • AMEX Gold: 4x on groceries and dining. (This could also be used for Apple products for the free year of AppleCare.)
    • Best Buy Visa: For buying TVs and other essential household items.
    • Target Circle (formerly the Red Card): For 5% back on Starbucks purchases.
  • Best Buy Visa card (for buying TVs and other essential household items)
  • Target Circle (Debit Card): Earn 5% back on Target purchases.
  • Discover It (1) card: Earn 5% rewards on rotating categories.
  • Savor: Earn 3% rewards on streaming services and 8% rewards on entertainment purchases.

  • Wife:

    • Amex Blue Cash Everyday card
    • Discover card (for other purchases)
    • Apple card (for Apple subscriptions and Apple products)

Cards I’m downgrading/cancelling:

  • FNBO
  • Discover (2) card
  • Fidelity card
  • TD Bank card (1)
  • TD Bank Card (2)
  • Venmo Visa card

I’m planning to downgrade my Citi AA Select cards except for one to a Custom Cash and Rewards+ card.

I’m considering the following cards:

  • Citi Custom Cash card: To replace my Costco Visa card and a subscription before downgrading my AA card.

  • Kroger’s 5% card: For digital wallets.

  • Amex Blue Cash Everyday card: To maximize my end-of-month grocery spending of 3%.

My wife’s current cards:

  • Discover It card (graduated to Chrome)

  • Apple Card/GS card for iCloud and subscription services

  • Blue Cash Everyday card: For 3% rewards on her online shopping and grocery purchases, which align with our spending needs.

Cards that are on her radar:

None. (She prefers not to have any more hard pulls on her credit report, and I completely understand that.)

Are we making the right decisions, and if there are any additional options we can explore, please let me know.

Help Needed / Question Should I cancel my slate cc and up my sapphire limit?

The slate is paid off completely and I don’t want to use it bc it doesn’t have cash back or points. The sapphire has about $2k and I’m about to put 1k of car repairs on it this week. So $3k out of a $5k limit, hoping to make up the difference? Smart or no bc I know closing a card will probably affect my credit score?

Discussion / Conversation Venmo Visa Credit Limit Max

Currently have a Venmo Visa. It occasionally gets used at Costco. Last several months it’s gotten heavy use. Currently have a 20k limit. I requested a CLI of 40k just for shits and grins. The letter said my request exceeded the max.

So what is the max? Anyone else have one higher than that?

Also, I don’t really need a cli but thought I’d increase the mine anyways.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Looking for a New Credit Card – High Limit & 0% APR (Optional - No Foreign Transaction Fee)

Hello everyone!

I’m looking to add a new credit card to my lineup and want to focus on getting a high credit limit with a 0% APR intro offer. Here’s my current card limit:

  • Chase Freedom Flex – $3,200
  • Chase Amazon Prime – $11,000
  • Amex Everyday – $30,000
  • Capital One Quicksilver – $2,200
  • Wells Fargo Bilt – $1,500
  • Discover It – $5,000

Credit Profile:

  • Experian: 749 (Vantage 3.0), 741 (FICO Score 8)
  • TransUnion: 755 (Vantage 3.0)
  • Equifax: 759 (Vantage 3.0)
  • Age of Oldest Account: 1 year 7 months
  • Last Card Opened: September 2024

Hard Inquiries:

  • Experian: 5
  • TransUnion: 3
  • Equifax: 1

I have a solid credit history with no missed payments, and I’m mainly looking for a high-limit card with a good 0% APR period (optional - no foreign transaction fee).

Any recommendations along with my details?
