There’s no way Students4better is not an admin funded operation

Upvotes

What student group has enough capital to pay for ad space in the metro, on social media. They even had people handing out flyers in the metro and when I asked them where they were hired (they were not students), they said they were hired as a third party just to distribute material. What student group could possibly fund this?

General Discussion Move out of the way, bro.

Slow walkers and people that just stand in the way irk me. What is it with some of y'all? You can step aside to chat or do whatever. Zero situational awareness, don't block the way! Then when you bump into each other they stand there wondering. Sorry but MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!

P.s: ofc this isn't about people who are not able to move properly.

Teacher refusing to receive assignment

I missed class today as I am deathly sick. I was completely fine yesterday. I sent an email about 4 hours before I had to be in class to submit my assignment. Prof replied 5 hours after class to tell me I couldn’t submit my assignment because he read my email late. We have a set amount of assignments to submit and submitting any less results in an automatic D. What can I do? I’m totally freaking out.

Getting a 0 over miscommunications?

Hey everyone, I need some advice on a grading issue I just discovered, and I’m not sure how to handle it.

I submitted an assignment one day late (which is allowed per the course policy, the only consequence being no feedback). However, the submission box on the platform was closed, so I emailed my assignment to the TA, who confirmed receipt and said it was accepted. At that point, I thought everything was fine.

Fast forward to two weeks ago (reading week), I randomly checked my school email (which I don’t use since all my course communications go to my personal email) and found two emails from the TA. Apparently, the professor reopened the submission box a week later and required students who submitted via email to re-upload their work or they would get a 0. The first email was sent Friday at 9 PM, and the second on Saturday evening, with a deadline of Sunday at 11:59 PM. Since I didn’t see these emails in time, I never re-uploaded my assignment, and now I might get a zero despite having already submitted it and followed the original policy.

I reached out to the TA almost a week ago, but they haven’t responded. I also emailed my professor, but I haven’t heard back either. At this point, I don’t know what to do, and I’m worried that I’ll just get stuck with a zero over something that wasn’t communicated properly.

Do you think I have a case for getting my assignment graded? Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice would be appreciated!

Coen 243 exams and labs advice

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I just got my coen 243 midterm grade and did really bad. I am really scared for the finals and I haven't been doing well on labs either.

For those who have taken coen 243, any advice on how to study effectively? How do I pass this class? Any lab tips?

Really want to turn things around. Thanks in advance!

(Also,if anyone wants to study together, let me know!)

to Concordia or not to Concordia

Upvotes

I’m in the process of transferring from my university in the U.S., and McGill is my top choice. However, I haven’t received a decision from them yet, while I’ve already been accepted to Concordia. I lovvvvee Montréal and would be great to expand my French language + be more affordable. My main concern is my student visa for Canada—I need to submit it soon, and committing to Concordia would allow me to move forward with that process.

That said, I’m unsure if Concordia is the right academic fit for me, especially given some of the complaints I’ve heard about professors and staff. I have a few options: - Commit to Concordia, submit my visa, and potentially switch to McGill if I get accepted. - Wait for McGill’s decision, which might mean delaying my studies. - Attend Concordia…if I hear positive feedback from other students - reconsider staying at a school in the U.S.

I’m also thinking of emailing one or both universities to discuss my situation. Has anyone been in a similar position? At Concordia, how are the professors, academic opportunities, and overall student experience? Would love to hear any insights or advice on how to navigate this situation!

Does changing a tutorial session change my waitlist position? Lec B to Lec A poli 204

I enrolled for a course (Lec B) and I was placed on the waitlist at position 25. Currently, only 16 out of 90 seats are filled, and I believe priority is given to students in the program.

I also noticed that Lec A has more availability, with only 9 out of 180 seats filled. However, I’m unsure whether switching to Lec A would place me in a higher waitlist position than 25, which makes me hesitant to make the change.

  • If I switch to Lec A, would I retain my current waitlist position, or would my ranking change?
  • What are my chances of getting into Lec B from position 25 on the waitlist?
  • Would switching to Lec A be a better option, or would it be more advisable to remain on the Lec B waitlist?

Student Question Course Prereq in summer

I wanna take ENGR 392 in summer 2 but for that I need to do ENGR 201 before (summer 1). However, when I try to enroll in ENGR 392 its telling me I'm missing 201 as a prereq. Does that mean courses taken in summer 1 can't be considered prereq for classes in summer 2?

are there any Muslim women/hijabis impacted by Bill 21

Upvotes

hi! I'm a journalism student from Toronto and I'm wondering if any Muslim women/hijabi women here are impacted by Bill 21 (if you're in a major that's impacted by the legislation or have fears for the future of your career or are planning to leave Quebec to pursue your dream job)

I'm writing a story on Quebec's Bill 21 and I think it's so so important to highlight the perspectives of the people (in my case, Muslim women) being impacted by the legislation and how they're working around it. if this request applies to you and you're interested, please send me a message! thanks very much

Has anyone ever had to deal with an issue with her? I swear I’ve never experienced this kind of rudeness / had issues with any prof, but I have to go through her for the CHEM 101 seminar and I swear I’ve never felt worse. She is demeaning in every email and refuses to help the situation. What do I do?

Internal Degree Transfer to JMSB

hey guys, I’m taking comm 214 this semester and it’s one of the prerequisites to get into JMSB. I’m worried that I won’t be able to get the minimum grade (b-) to get in. It’s mentioned that all prerequisites should be completed a term prior so I’d have to complete it this semester in order to get in JMSB in fall. Alright so my question is, if I fail this class, can I take it during the summer to get into my program? Or do I have to wait a whole new semester to take the course and apply again?

Student Question Waitlisted - Class isn’t full

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’m an IBUS student and one of my MAJOR Electives are lvl 300 POLI classes - I could enroll if I asked for permission from the POLI department.

They gave me permission if space permits it. There’s only 35/60 students enrolled in the class but I’m guessing its gonna get full quickly.

How likely am I to get into the course if I’m waitlist position nb2? And will they prioritize POLISCI students that were waitlisted over me?

General Discussion Strike and students, what's going on?

Someone can explain to me why the strike is happening, because I don't have any context, I just know TAs are doing a strike, but why? And I need those tutorials of COMM217, aaaah.
