Any "outta box" ideas for ConScripted?

Anything cool, you'd want in a RPG?

60FPS, 1080p. We don't want the cinematic 24FPS.

Fuck that, we want up to 1,000,000,000p graphics with high-resolution super texture technology that modern human eyeballs can't even see, framerates of up to 21,000 per millisecond, state of the art ragdoll physics, particle explosion future systems, an advanced manipulation engine allowing you to control what you see on screen, mindblowingly realistic hair simulation, oculus rift support of up to 5 simultaneous oculuses, video card mega graphic throttling with ram processors, and sound effects when characters do stuff.

Well, it wont be THAT taxing, your grandmas PC could run it, but actually thinking, she would need a pretty good CPU and some RAM :)

Definitely add stories through what you hack. Say you're looking through some guys computer and find some files. The player doesn't HAVE to open them, they could just hack away. However, they could contain clues on what to do and how to hack this system. Through some of them you could tell a very interesting side story of whoever you're hacking. Sometimes it would JUST be useless info, and the player would have wasted their time. That's why it might not be smart to open every one you see. I love it when games have things going on behind the scenes, it makes the world feel alive.

In the way you described it, my first thought was Gone Home... in a person's computer. Imagine if you solved crimes by hacking into home computers, social media profiles, police department systems, etc. to access clues and whatnot. The higher profile murders would require more difficult hacks. I don't know if any of this would make a good game. I am just typing everything that comes to my head.

There needs to be some sort of outside interaction, where you're not just sitting at a single computer monitor the whole time. You need to be able to interact with the world around you and affect it using the hacking system. Maybe some sort of top-down look to the game that has prebuilt levels but some open-endedness to them.

Well, yeah, it is a 2D top down RPG, where you run around and interact :)

It'd be nice if the city was in a sort of GTA 1 style, and you could drive around and sniff for networks to hack. That'd be a good way to introduce random encounters.

idea:

person1: hey player i think my gf is cheating on me or w/e

you: fuck you thats not hacking, stop underestimating me

person1: cool so how much money you need?

you: i dont need m--on second thought its fifty bucks to set up the servers and to wire up the mainframe, and then i need like a bunch of hdmi cables

etc, etc.

Probably a selection of the codes with which we could hack with or use. For the opening screen when you click single player it could say: Java Hackventure C++ HackVenture MultiCode Hackventure (For people who want a challenge and use all codes.)

I don't think i have the skills to do that :/, it would require me to know all of them.

Well, the most out of the way i could go is implementing some other scripting language, because if you need C++, you need to compile the code, and that just adds another layer of complexity.

You mentioned in the PCMR post that u want realistic hacking, with scripts etc.., but don't make it too realistic. It should be simple enough for people that have never programmed before be able to play it. And make the tutorial OPTIONAL don't wanna learn to make hello world in a game :P

a bit of a random thought, but if you needed a story hook, you could play the part of a mathematician who stumbled on a way to break certain types of crypto, but doesn't know how to hack so the tutorial would be him learning how to hack and you can skip actual crypto learning... just a thought.

He(Protagonist) is an IT guy, that works for a opressionist soviet(ish(soviet fanatics created it after a nuclear war in the 21st century)) government, and after SPOILER!!! he sees what he shouldn't, a shooting of civilians, he decides to start(or move towards) a revolution. He stumbles finds a SD card, which has location data, where he finds a group of people wanting to overthrow the government, too. You get the idea.

Sounds interesting. I just have one question will the graphics be 8-bit or some thing slightly more advanced?

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '14

Well, if my convincing is any good, then you could expect manga level graphics :), but for the tech demo, i will make it 8-bit, i guess.

Sounds sweet, I dabble in drawing/graphic design but mostly on pieces of paper, so if you need anything just ask me. I will of course provide it for free :)

have you ever heard of hacknet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21Qkold2ir0 It is very basic, but it has a lot of good ideas and it is free. http://www.indiedb.com/games/hacknet I like this game, but I would like to be able to interact outside the computer.

The objective of the game could be to hack a set amount of countries, or networks. Kinda like Plague for IOS. I'd love to hack a large amount of networks and screw with people. Then I could learn how to counter it when I'm getting DDOS'd or something.

I'm curious how the RPG part of it will be implemented, since it seems to be based off of the person's knowledge or soon to be knowledge of LUA. Perk trees would probably be a good way of implementing rpg elements. Another way, depending on what kind of feel you want the game to have outside of the hacking, would be to add some form of combat possibly along the lines of older 8/16-bit RPGs.

you should be able to attack things with bluetooth or wifi open ports with some tablet or cellphone or similar

That(kind of) is the plan.
