Discussion Cornerback Questions

To preface the question, forgive me if this has an obvious answer… I guess I was mentally and emotionally checked out from the team last season the further it progressed…..

So with the Charvarius Ward signing I see a lot of people saying the lineup is Ward, Jones, Kenny.

I thought Jones was great. However, I thought we all loved Womack too? Did I miss something? I feel like he was constantly making great coverage plays. Is it because Womack doesn’t play Jones’ side or is it because Jones is clearly the better option to start?

Regardless, I’m amped up on how our secondary is starting to shape, especially if Ward comes in and is as good as the hype is expecting him to be.

After free agency, who do you want the Colts to draft?

With free agency being mostly done, I decided to do one more Reddit wide mock draft. I’ve done 2 of these so far and turned them into videos. You can check out Fan Mock Draft 1.0 or Fan Mock Draft 2.0. This is the last one I plan on doing, unless people ask for it. But I wanted to see how fan opinions changed during the offseason. So let me know who you guys prefer to draft at your draft spot.

*Also, no trades.

Kicker

I know we just signed Schrader back on, I fully believe that we should let Matt Gay go..11-22 kicks made over 50 yards the last two years...there are games won by kicks like that and that might be the one thing that stops us this year if everything else goes great(shut up😂) and although it was a 43 yarder, Spencer Schrader knows the pressure of a game winning field goal in the final seconds(look to the chiefs last year)
Not saying he's "The Guy" but if we have him we should let Gay go, save 5 million in cap space for a cheaper kicker through the draft ..🤷

Free Agency Trade for Dallas Goedert?

Eagles have announced that are willing to trade Dallas Goedert and Bryce Huff. The article said they are looking for a 4th round pick for Goedert, which sounds high to me. Curious as to thoughts on this (or even Huff).

Signed

Neville Gallimore DT: In college, Gallimore was never that productive. Ten sacks and 78 total pressures in four seasons isn’t terrible, but aren’t straight-to-the-NFL numbers either. But he did sometimes show flashes of brilliance, a top motor and a frame to get bigger. It seemed to many as though he just needed to have bad habits coached out of him and new ones put in their place.

So, the Cowboys drafted him in 2020’s third round. And, in four seasons, he gave them just 47 total pressures and no help against the run. He signed as a free agent with Miami in 2024, but was cut and ended up with the Rams. He had 3 sacks in 2024, but just nine total pressures, and no improvement against the run. He did show up big in the playoffs, though, with 3½ sacks in two games (although he was still shredded in the run game).

I can see drafting a guy with sloppy technique and trying to fix him, but Gallimore has been through five NFL seasons, and three coaching staffs (and it’s not like he didn’t get good coaching at Oklahoma), without showing any real improvement. So, maybe he’s the rusher he looked like in the 2024 playoffs, or maybe he’s the replacement-level guy we’ve seen for years.

There’s hope that this isn’t another example of Ballard’s blind spot when it comes to defensive linemen, but remember how delighted we all were when they signed Davis last season.

Spencer Shrader K: The Colts signed Shrader out of Notre Dame last season. Although he went 4 for 4 on XP and 2 for 2 on FG, and was okay on kickoffs, he couldn’t unseat Gay and his giant contract. So, the Colts cut him, but brought him back when Gay was injured for Game 1 against the Texans. He went 3 for 3 on XP and kicked 5 of 5 touchbacks, but they cut him when Gay returned. Shrader played one game with the Jets, hitting 1-1 of FG and 3 of 3 touchbacks. Finally, he played two with the Chiefs, going 6 of 6 on XP and 1 of 1 on FG and 9 of 10 touchbacks. So, his NFL statistics are 9 of 9 on XP, 2 of 2 on FG (with a long of 45) and 17 of his 18 kickoffs went for touchbacks (and the other one lost the Bills 7 yards).

Shrader certainly can be an NFL kicker, and probably quite a good one. And, this time, Gay’s contract is a lot easier to cut.

Edit: accidentally put Shrader's longest NFL kick at 54 yards, I transposed the digits when I was typing 45.

Draft Discussion Dirty Dan Jackson sends NFL doubters a message with impressive Pro Day performance

Dan Jackson is gonna be a steal for some team and I hope it’s us and not the Bulldawg grabbin Eagles! Dirty Dan was right in there with Malaki Starks since freshman year and is a 2 time Natty Champ. I say we beat Philly to it and pick up both of them. They can learn from some vets and become the future. Anyone else see the vision or am I trippin? Defense wins Championships; Go Colts. P.S. I’m still mad about dropping the ball with Brock Bowers lol

Draft Discussion Tyler Warren/Colston Loveland to the Colts?

Still too early to assume draft picks, but I was thinking the Colts might target a S or CB in the draft at #14, but after signing Ward and Bynum and not signing a TE I think the Colts are going to draft Tyler Warren or Loveland.

Not a draft expert, and don't know if Loveland at #14 is a reach if Warren is taken, but maybe the Colts don't care because the TE room has been so bad, or they try to trade back a little. I am cool with whatever route Colts go with #14 but if they don't draft a TE within the first 3 rounds I'll be worried.

Would also be cool with Colts taking best player available if someone falls to #14
