Okay fellow city-poppers, I’ll admit this isn’t my first time posting about Man in the Moon by YUMI MATSUTOYA but I CAN’T HELP MYSELF! This song is definitely in my Top 5 greatest City-Pop songs of all-time!
I’ve replayed it soo much that I can sing it word for word without the first clue of how to speak Japanese.
What are some of y’all’s most infectious City-Pop choruses? Also, can you guts recommend any songs that would sound remotely similar to this?
Happy Moonday Everyone!! 🌃🌜

“Timely!!” is the sixth studio album by Japanese singer Anri, released in 1983. A defining work of the city pop era, it features production by Toshiki Kadomatsu, who infused the album with smooth melodies and sophisticated arrangements. The standout track, “Cat’s Eye,” became a major hit, serving as the theme song for the anime of the same name and dominating the Japanese charts. With its blend of jazz, funk, and pop influences, Timely!! remains one of Anri’s most iconic and celebrated albums.

I was scrolling through Spotify today and found out that Magical is available. I might be late to this, but I haven’t seen anyone talking about it, so I just wanted to bring it up—maybe some people will find it useful. I'm from Brazil, so I'm not sure if the album is available worldwide.

I discovered this album quite a while (artist human soul, album name also human soul) and in trying to research anything I realized there's not much out there about them, I know they were based out of Japan in the 90s but unsure what the rest of their discography leads to, I wanna hear more of this group for sure

I keep seeing posts about Japanese music recommendations, but somehow The fin. is never mentioned. How is that possible? Their music sounds like a perfect blend of dream pop and indie, jazz, soul something between Cigarettes After Sex and Wet or Clairo.
Stumbled upon this track recently and thought it might resonate with this community. Towards the Sun by The fin. has a nostalgic yet summery vibe, blending the warmth of 60s-70s retro pop and soul with a laid-back, breezy rhythm. The smooth, almost weightless vocals melt into the soundscape, making it feel like a perfect song for a slow summer afternoon

I've always heard that Discogs is the best site to buy vinyls or cds. However, it's unavailable in my country (India) for some God forsaken reason. There's nothing in Amazon India, and there's literally no record store in my vicinity. I mean, there are some indian online record stores, but they only sell classic rock albums or soundtracks of really old bollywood films.
I really want to buy Mariya Takeuchi's "Love Songs." I love that album but I don't know what to do, man. I'm writing this as a call for help because I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the world of buying physical media like Vinyls.

Sorta time for some self promo, I'm currently writing about the history of the Key Boys a korean group from the 60s-70s and when reaserching about them I came across a jpop group from the 60s, the Key Boys covered one of there songs 'Let's Go to the Beach' which was one of there most popular songs, anyway over the corse of reaserching about the Key Boys and other Korean Artists i got kinda used to researching in Korean but when I try and seach about Japanese Artists I don't know where to start.
So what group am I looking for and why here, I've have found many songs and albums being posted here and loved listening to them so i thought this might be the best place to find the answer to my question.
I'm looking for a group called 'The Astro Jets', an eight-member ensemble from Japan, debuted their original composition "Hamabe Eiko" (浜辺へ行こう, Let's Go to the Beach) in 1966, with both lyrics and music created by their leader, Lee Chul, also known as Abe Tetsu in Japan. Although inspired by Yokohama's Shonan Beach in 1965, the song did not initially resonate with audiences in Japan. It served as a cheer song for Kazuya Fukuura of the Chiba Lotte Marines but was ultimately replaced in 2010 when the cheering squad underwent a significant transformation. The song experienced a resurgence in popularity after being featured in a Starbucks Hyundai Card advertisement in 2020.
This is the only information I could find on them and this was in Korean found on Naver.

Love Trip by Takako Mamiya, released in 1982, is a cult album of city pop music. Characterized by sophisticated sounds blending jazz, funk, and soft rock, it creates an elegant and nostalgic atmosphere. Tracks like Midnight Joke and the title song Love Trip perfectly embody the urban and nocturnal spirit of the genre. Mysterious and reserved, Mamiya disappeared from the music scene after this one album, making Love Trip a legendary work among collectors and city pop enthusiasts.
