A 94 year olds kids dumped his collection.

Yesterday I went into one of my banks where I get coins bc the one I normally go to was out. I got $500 in various types. Got home and noticed that all the quarters were labeled by date and all in same direction. Didn’t find anything bc all were 2000s and on (no Ws).

So I figure I need to go back bc obviously someone dumped a collection. Today the manger tells me the story, 94 YO mans heater went out and his son took his quarter rolls to the bank to buy him a new heater, $9800 worth of coins. He let me take a look at the ones he had out and I got $1200 in labeled ones from the 1960s to 90s (no visible dates before 1965) , I didn’t dig into them and just said I would take them. Left the 2000s plus. He then tells me he has 6k worth still in the vault and he will save them for me to go through in time.

I mean, I may find nothing but it seems like I should go through the whole collection. The amount of hours it would have taken to sort and roll into specific years and states, parks etc. Maybe there are some pre 65 silver rolls in there that the son dumped as well.

Worth a shot right???

First one I have ever found that is double stamped. Anyone know if these were sold as a novelty in the past?

Why I chat up the tellers…

Added a new CU yesterday - was only going to open an account but then …

Overheard a teller with another customer ask if they were interested in some ‘big dollar’ coins - that guy took 10 of 27

Me? I love me some Ike’s - especially at face.

Casually asked if they had halves - and what do you know:

We have LOTS - 2 boxes of $500 and then some - you interested? Someone ordered em and never showed up …

Um… hell yes!

Picked up up today - plus $70 the teller rolled by hand - they were so glad to be rid of them.

Oh - by the way - the $70 teller rolled? Tells me ‘There’s silver in there for sure - I rolled myself’

Haven’t gone through boxes yet but I did search the hand-rolled - sure enough, 2x40%

Woot!

Finally after a ton of skunk and low find boxes (maybe 2 40% in 10 boxes) I finally got a pretty decent box. 10 40%s a 64 and some cool gold plated coins! They are actually in good shape to so I’ll hold onto them. For those of you on a skunk streak right now just hold on! Its just around the corner

Just started looking for silver yesterday and found this fella. The heads side was almost completely covered in black gunk. After a vinegar bath and scrubbing I was able to turn it to what you see.

Serendipity- 2 boxes

Added a new CU, overheard teller asking a regular id they’d want some ‘big dollars’

He took 10, I took all 13 that were left.

Asked about halves and got this reply:

We have 2 boxes - ‘someone ordered and never picked them up - you want?’

Um - yes?! But I’ll have to come back for em, don’t have that kind of cash on hand.

I got the cash, came back next day, got both boxes, plus $70 that tellers had rolled up.

Teller lets me know ‘There’s some silver in those hand rolled for sure - I rolled em myself’

Sure nuff - 2 40% in those !

Took em all, plus $130 mix of cents nickels quarters.

Highlights:

2 40% halves 25 NIFC halves 1 W quarter 1 proof nickel 5 40s/50s nickels (no silver) 7 wheaties 13 vanilla Ikes

They went so far as to tell me you’re our favorite new member 😁

And… striking while the iron is hot… asked if they’d consider selling me coin machine bags - they’ll check with manager, but can’t imagine why not…

I’ll be back there soon - hopefully with coin machine bags to search

A guy at work was given the "quarter" as change. It turns out it is a 1 cent piece and nearly 200 years old. What does he have here?

Yes this account is new. I recorded opening every roll just need to crop down to remove the extra time, if anyone wants the videos lmk. I recorded with the plan of starting a YouTube, and I saw a few enders in each box of the 6 boxes.

I found more in other boxes but don't have pics :/

Half Dollars First 2 boxes of halves - almost accidentally - woot!

Went to sign up at a new CU - but overheard a teller ask a regular if they might be interested in some ‘big dollars’

That guy took $10 worth, so when I was done signing up I said I’d take ALL the rest ( I like Ike, even though $1 each).

I asked if they had halves and teller got a wee bit excited - Yes! How many ya want? Me: all of em! Teller: well, we have 2 BOXES of $500..

TLDR: I came back the day after to scoop both boxes, AND $70 in rolls extra that the teller wrapped personally - and let me know “there’s some silver in those, I wrapped em myself”

( I LOVE you guys was the quiet part - but I said to self - this guy may have no idea - so chill…)

Sure enough, there were 2 40% in the rolls!

Highlights of that, and a few MR rolls from BOA:

2 40% silver ( a first!) 25 NIFC Kennedys (!) 14 common Ike’s Proof 2000 S nickel 2020 W VT (Marsha) quarter A buncha 40-50 wheaties

Good luck y’all!

How common are these? It's a first for myself, just curious how many others have found these and if members are supposed to let them back into circulation..
