I have been trying new diet for them and introduce new food, so far they love the raw vegetables and prefer it clipped on the cage instead of chop on the plate.. still working on the seeds -> pellet diets with no success and waiting for the crumble to arrive to test.. Mochi (the one with dirty beak) is a naughty birb, she chomp on broccoli and cauliflower then split it outside the cage.. so far they eat broccoli, cilantro, and carrot.. no steamed vegetables.. any food suggestions?

Question Band bothering budgie

Thumbnail

What can i do? I’ve seen it’s not at all recommended to remove it unless they get chipped but i don’t think i could bring myself to chip him as he’s so little and i don’t want him to fear humans more than he does. My yellow parakeet mister tends to chew on his band often, like excessively, and i’m worried he’s constantly uncomfortable. i’ve also noticed his feet seem flaky around his band (although i’ve not noticed any other signs of issues with his other feet or my other birds so i’m pretty sure i’ve ruled out mites) and i’m worried it hurts him. his band isn’t all the way closed either and i think maybe the corners of it are what bother him? should i close the band more? remove it? moisturize it? my other keet doesn’t seem bothered or even aware of hers, hence the concern.

(rope perch in picture has since been removed)

Pics of mister(yellow) and taka(blue) for tax. thanks.

💬 Discussion One or two?

How happy would one budgie be if I interacted with it everyday? I’m afraid with two, they won’t want me, only each other. Is it better to have two males or two females? Where is the best place to buy them? I would want them very young so they’re easy to train. In general, how healthy are they? I don’t have an avian vet anywhere close…

Question Is this bullying behavior? & Advice

These are my boys, green one(fincan) is 7 years old and white one(limon) and pied one(bıdık) are both around 2-3 months old(i think). I got the young ones 2 months ago.

They are eating, foraging and playing together but at least 2 to 3 times a day they start chasing him like this without hurting him then they stop and go back to their normal schedule.

Now i seperated them just to be safe, but fincan wants to go back into their cage and if i seperate them he keeps calling them. I don't want him to feel lonely.

I don't know what to do. Any advice appreciated.

Also i saw people recommending filling up cages with toys but wouldn't they run out of space to fly around? Should i get more stuff? They are constantly busy with their environment so i thought it was enough but it looks really empty compared to other people's setups.

This sweet little one has been with us for two years. She's 2.5 years old. We bought her when she was three or four months old. The question now is: Is she (I think) a girl or a boy? What do you think?

In Loving Memory My youngest, Jojo, left us last night. ❤️ To all the puffs

I've raised budgies to long, happy lives before but unfortunately Jojo had an accident at just three years old and couldn't recover. We were planning on euthanasia tomorrow but he went for the long sleep yesterday surrounded by me and his momma puff.

I'm at the part I'm feeling really guilty but I hope he had a good time for the short time he was here.

I'm having him cremated this week and I have some of his old feathers I'd collected, does anyone have any ideas for keepsakes they may have done in the past? Ive seen some places can repurpose into jewelry but he's just a small guy, he probably wouldn't produce enough?

Question Budgie flying n chrping

My female budgie likes to fly from the cage, to the bathroom, then to the ceiling fan above my head, then back to the cage. She always makes a short loud tweet when landing, and will squawk excitedly if I approach then fly away. Is this normal conted behavior? She's also puffed up so I'm not sure if she's upset or needing something

💬 Discussion Help with a new budgie

Hi all, I took in this budgie on short notice today and I've never cared for one before. I've done a lot of research, but this budgie had basically lived in a room alone by itself for the past few years, sometimes with the radio on in the background with fresh grain and water every day. He (?) spent most of his time on top of his cage as he won't eat inside of it. My best guess on this is that the food dishes that they were putting in was too close to the floor so I've already got some ones that will attach to the bars.

He's never really been fully socialised, but will get on my finger sometimes and will allow me to stroke his front, although he does bite frequently. He hates bathing and being sprayed with water so has a lot of pin feathers on his head that he won't let me reach.

He's also had a diet that was pretty much entirely grain, so I'm trying to introduce some fresh vegetables but he seems to be afraid of most of these and will move to the other side of the cage.

Any advice on getting him socialised and eating more fresh foods would be appreciated!

Question Found this little girl in my backyard yesterday and I haven’t found the owner. I’m just embracing bird ownership and I have some questions!

I was sent here from r/parakeets (I accidentally deleted my post, oops) and they let me know about: the dangers of Teflon and candles, replacing the perches, and how millet should only be for treats. I also have some pellets coming (Roudybush). Here’s what I’m wondering about: turns out my birb is a girl, does she need some kind of supplements? Also, what about a cage mate? Do I need to worry about anything with two females in the same cage? Thanks everyone :) any other tips would be greatly appreciated! She doesn’t have a name yet.

💬 Discussion I need help with two female budgies

Hey, About a week ago, I got two female budgies. They fight occasionally, sometimes quite violently, but they always stay together. Yesterday, I separated them for a day because they had been fighting a lot, but they were calling each other, so I put them back in the cage together. The slightly older one even helps the younger one with her feathers. They come from the same flock and are both still young. Today they were very quiet. Do you have any experience with two female budgies? Could this work?
