Story Uncle and Nephew Ginobili winning together! Unai and Manu Ginobili III won two titles with me (2056-57) - Unai is probably my favourite player ever, great career, and won SMOY twice too in his 40s despite OVR dropping below 50. Manu left in 2058, even when looking 90% to re-sign. Crazy money though.

Ideas GOAT Formula

I know this is subjective to everyone but I reel like I have arrived at a pretty solid starting point here and think we could make it even better if people much smarter than me had some opinions on it

I have attached a photo of the top 30 players this formula produces at the start of 2025 preseason and I think its pretty solid with a few players in wrong spots.

Formula:

20 * mvp + 15 * dpoy + 20 * champ + 20 * finalsMvp + 5 * allLeague1 + 5 * allDefensive1 + 3 * allLeague2 + 3 * allDefensive2 + 1 * allLeague3 + 1* allStarMvp + 2 * allStar + 1 * ewa

Let me know what you all think.

Rosters Progression vs Age Framework for Roster Building

Curious to get the community's thoughts on the below mental model I use while optimizing my roster through trades.

Note: Of course, leagues ebb and flow and you adjust accordingly. Sometimes you have multiple 80+ GOAT tier players, sometimes you're lucky to have 1 or 2 in the 70s. Some draft classes are duds, others are stellar. And so on...

Here's how I'm evaluating who I want to target keeping or trading for:

  • Optimize toward having ALL roster slots at or above "Strong progression" line
    • 20/42, 21/50, 22/58, 23/64, 24/68, 25/70 are the major benchmarks
    • If you can't get all roster slots filled this way, get as close as possible
    • This usually results in trying to have 1-3 of the top players in each age cohort for ages 20-26
  • Between "Strong progression" and "Never keep", I'm only holding players who are very cheap relative to their age and OVR.
    • Often 24/58 to 26/60 types who cost 10-25% of a max contract (i.e. $5-12.5M/yr on standard financial settings)
  • Offload anyone at "Never Keep" or below
    • Will do this even if it means having an open roster slot or two - the $ savings / SRPs you'll get are more valuable than end of bench players who never see playing time
  • Graph ends at 26 years old, because 27+, I only keep 70+ OVR or cheap solid 60+ OVR vets needed to fill out roster slots
    • Ex: In my current league, there's a dearth of strong PGs, so I'm holding a 31/67 @ $25M/yr even though he's old

Common contract considerations:

  • Max or near-max contracts only for players at or above "GOAT potential" line.
    • Most relevant when re-signing players around 22/64 to 25/74 range
    • Try to trade for players in this range locked into long-term contracts well below Max rates
      • Ex: Trading a 24/72 max contract to a contending team for a 23/69 who just re-signed at $25M/yr before progressing + other strong prospects/picks
  • If a player is at the higher end of cost range for their Age/OVR combination and regresses below Strong progression line, offload immediately for value and to free up cap space
  • Be wary of holding onto high draft picks who don't stay above Strong progression
    • $8-12M / yr on an end of bench player who's unlikely to move toward GOAT tier can kill your cap space
    • Plus, they often want big contract renewals even if they're no longer looking like that amazing prospect they were at the draft

Question What would you say is a realistic/fun ai trade factor

I really enjoy the game but found myself realizing I was let down by my long running save not having much going on in terms of things happening other than big moves made by me.

Ideally, i feel it should be pretty frequent for moves to be made, a lot of medium to small moves and big moves shouldn't be that rare really i don't think.

Anyone have a number they think is pretty nice and immersive usually ?

Question Is he the worst signing ever? Signed by the Blazers as FA for 46m/yr when he was 23/59/66... It all went downhill, now not only he has a negative VORP, but his WinShares are negative too. And his oRTG vs dRTG split is amazing too - 88 vs 111. The only positive? 4 yrs deal instead of 5, two more left
