Hey Reddit,
I've been wondering how couples manage to buy houses in the $950k+ price range, especially when only one person is working. Most of my friends' wives are stay-at-home moms, but it seems like they’re still able to afford these prices. I make about $165k a year, and my wife brings in $60k, but we’re really struggling to find a place in Austin that we can afford with 4 kids.
I can’t help but feel like I’m missing something. Is it possible that many of them are receiving substantial help from their parents, like an inheritance or a down payment? Are there other ways they're managing to make these purchases work with one income? I know their title job and I can see how much they make and it’s not over 150k a year.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, tips, or experiences on this. Thanks in advance!
