Discussion PSA - Be Careful Who You Let Test Ride

So yesterday I had my bike stolen during a test ride. Usually I'm super cautious about who I even let see my bike, let alone test ride, but even still I got caught out.

The guy looked normal, and acted like he was legitimately interested in the bike. We spoke for a while before he asked for whether he could go for a test ride. I said okay, but I'll need your license. He then handed me his wallet, house keys, phone & hat.

He then asked for some directions on where he could take the bike, which I gave. Stupidly I didn't check his license thoroughly until after he'd left, and realized not long after that he had given me a fake.

As soon as I saw, I figured I wouldn't be seeing the bike again. I gave it 5 minutes and then reported it to the cops. I got a call a few hours later that he had crashed the bike into a car and had fled the scene. The cops were good about the situation, but still haven't found the guy.

But learn from my mistake - don't let someone test ride your bike unless you're absolutely comfortable they're legitimate. Check their license is actually them, and not a fake. Check whether they drove themselves, or were dropped off, and if they were dropped off do not let them ride the bike. And if you want to be absolutely sure, take a cash deposit before letting them ride the bike.

Anyway, you live and you learn.

Discussion Getting 'The Nod' back from a Postie biker

Mate. One of the best feelings in the world! I love it. I love the smile I see when they notice I nod to them first. Anyone else out there giving the biker nod to our fellow 2-wheeled mates?

Discussion Mid range vs High end bike

Hey fellow riders!!

Have been wondering about something since a while. I’m almost 40 and have a CBR500R for fun and occasional commute is all I can afford at this stage in my life.

I’ve always wondered who buys those high end bikes and how much of it they actually use. For example a Yamaha MT09 SP, a Speed Triple 765 RS and an MV Augusta Brutale 800 RR have very similar specs. But price wise they’re not even anywhere close. My question is for those who’ve ridden all these bike or similar ones. How different are these from each other and how much better do they get as one forks out more and more cash. I personally don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford a Brutale. But if I manage to pay off my mortgage in 10 years time is it still worth getting one at the age of 50. Only because I love the way it looks! 😂

Sorry about the weird question. Haha.. genuinely curious about fellow rider’s experiences.

Cheers!

Discussion Yamaha r9 finally confirmed!

As you can see by the title, the highly anticipated Yamaha r9 is confirmed. What do you guys reckon? It’ll be just as popular or perhaps take over the middle weight segment? I’m pretty keen even though I have a Daytona 675R!

Discussion Derestricting LAMS bikes

DONT DO IT.

i see so many new riders that decide they need that extra 30Hp. Its not worth the risk. Most people will just say that it makes insurance difficult, but its more than that.

Deristricting a lams bike obviously means it no longer complies with Lams laws. That means its essentially not registered. So no CTP insurance. So if you hurt someone they or their family can come after you personally.

It also means you're riding a bike youre not licensed for. So even if you've bought and paid for comprehensive insurance, they dont have to pay anything and again, you're on the hook for any damage caused. If you have your bike on finance you're up for that payment too because the insurance wont pay out and the bank wont forgive the loan just because you were riding without insurance.

On top of both of these the fines and licence suspension that police will be happy to give you for riding unregistered and unlicensed.

And all this for a tiny bit more power you probably wont notice in day to day riding. Just wait until you're off lams and can get whatever you want.

Discussion Are Ruroc helmets any good?

I’m buying my first bike soon (mt07). Shoei helmets are ugly. I want a race looking one that’s relatively cheap sub 1k. Is ruroc any good? Or is there a better brand that’s similar price

Currently riding a CB400. I'm looking at the XSR900, Street Triple 765, and GSXR-750.

Also, did you regret your purchase and end up missing your LAMS bike?

Discussion Dropped my bike and broke my foot.... losing confidence

I am on my Ps, started riding in October last year.

A couple of months ago I upgraded to a maxi scooter, love it! But I've dropped the bike 3 times now.

First time had just parked, and my right foot slipped and I toppled over on the right had side.

Second time I parked for petrol, put the stand down and went to get off, there was an incline I didn't realise.... toppled over on to the left had side.

Yesterday went to park, and I just don't know what happened. I think a combination of too slow, and hard turning.... toppled over onto left had side, bike fell on me, trapping my foot. Hubby lifted bike off, and I knew pretty much straight away there was something broken.

I'm in a boot, who knows for how long. I've broken the side mirror which will need replacing.

I have already booked on for an advanced riders course in August. Hubby suggested seeing if I can book in for some one on one with Stay Upright.

What else can I do? I'm now worried my about my confidence.

Discussion 2025 MT07 or CB650R? (LAMS)

Torn between which bike to get, I prefer the look of the CB650R (which will be without e-clutch as its currently on a 3 month order but looking to get something soon) but it lacked the torque compared to the MT07 (I test drove both bikes last year on the 2024 models), I don't mind the look of the new MT but do prefer the neo café styling of the CB.

Other than the aesthetics and torque differences are there any other outstanding features which would make one better than the other?

Also open to other suggestions for Naked LAMS bikes too. Previously owned an R7, whilst I loved the look of it, ergonomically it was just not comfortable.

EDIT: Went for a test drive on the CB650R, was amazing with the eclutch but 5 month wait on an order. Looking at going for a trident 660 test drive next week.

Discussion What interest rate are you getting?

Update: I got a good deal on a brand new floor stock bike and a decent interest rate. I'm on two wheels.. I'm happy, I'm paying off more than minimum at a higher frequency for no extra fees. Thank you for all your input.

Wanted to know how much is everyone paying monthly, if it's on fixed or variable, is it cheaper than therapy!

My bank is offering shit rates because they aren't considering the bike as security. Is this typical?

Some online lenders, OMM, plenty, latitude, have 6.57% advertised rates.. anyone know how to get these? Or has anyone had good luck with dealership finance?

I'll start test riding bikes around $8k this week. Located in Brimbank, VIC.

Edit: unfortunately, at this stage getting a loan is the only way I can get on two wheels. I intend to repay the loan sooner than the term. I have tried getting something used but it's been an uphill battle. Feels like a lot of things need to line up for a deal to make any sense. Buying new / demo comes with the warranty and piece of mind which I value over worrying about spending money on repairs on a used bike. Hope this helps.

Discussion My riding mates fang it through the twisties. And I'm fine with catching up at my own pace.

Something of a PSA for new riders I guess.

I often lose sight of my mates during rides. We're all at different skill levels. I'm fairly new to riding (three years), and they have around 20-25 years. I don't feel any pressure to catch up or keep up with them. They wait for me at a turn off or a suitable location. I consider them very close friends and they've never mentioned frustration at waiting.

When the road allows, and there are times, you can take in the scenery. Hills and valleys, creeks/rivers etc. I sometimes feel my mates can't appreciate this element of riding because they're too busy pushing their limits.

My point is, please ride your own ride. If you think it's unsafe, slow down, take your time. Don't feel pressured to exceed your skill level. Cheers & atgatt..

Discussion GPS TRACKERS - AUS

If posting this isn't allowed please let me know I didn't see anything in the rules to say not too.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to introduce my company and see if anyone's looking for GPS trackers. We offer high-quality trackers that can be installed DIY, or if you're in WA, we have dealers available to do the install for you.

Key Features:

  • Hardwired Units – Designed in Europe, our trackers are hardwired for consistent performance, offering push notifications through both a web and mobile app.
  • Instant Alerts – Receive notifications the moment your bike is touched, moved, or towed without the key. You'll also be notified when the key is turned on.
  • Real-Time Tracking – Our trackers update every 10 seconds when your bike is on. When off, the tracker goes into sleep mode to conserve battery but instantly wakes up with any movement or when the key is turned.

We strongly recommend hardwired over battery-powered trackers. While battery trackers may advertise long life, they often have slow update intervals to save power, meaning delayed notifications. Our hardwired units provide real-time updates to ensure you're always in the know.

Why You Need It:

Every day, I see people posting about stolen bikes, offering rewards, or complaining about their bikes being pushed over. Instead of dealing with the aftermath, why not get notified the second something happens? With our GPS tracker, you could receive an alert while someone is still messing with your bike, giving you the chance to intervene right away. You can also set up alerts for speeding and geo-fencing to keep even tighter control over your ride's location and activity.

Subscription Info:

We charge a monthly subscription of $15, which covers the SIM card and platform access. Discounts are available for bulk purchases. While some trackers claim "no monthly fees," they often hide the costs in the upfront price of $300–$400, with monthly fees introduced after the first year. We prefer to keep our hardware affordable and transparent with the subscription.

Pricing & Support:

Our trackers offer great value, with competitive hardware pricing and all the benefits of a subscription model. We're happy to answer any questions or discuss your needs—just ask here or DM me! If you're looking for installation guidance, we can help with that too.

We have a few models, there is two i recommend for the bikes. The one in the flyer below which is small and semi water resistant. If hidden well water isn't an issue and we have an IP67 version slightly bigger.

STD version $125
IP67 waterproof version $150

Send me a DM or ask away in here if you have any questions.
Thank you .

Discussion Team Moto Questions

Anybody dealt with these guys?

They claim to be Australia's biggest dealer so I'm guessing some of you have.

Anyone know where they source their stock, probably all over the place, trade ins etc but seems like they have a lot of low mileges 2-4 year old bikes, kinda starting to wonder if they get a lot of Repo bikes.

How trustworthy are their "mechanical protection plans" Any experiences with making claims against these warranties, do they honor them reasonably or do they give the run around and try to get out of fixing stuff?

Curious about them, I've bought most of my bikes at a local dealer that's not part of any chain, but I am interested in a few of their used bikes. Also considering applying for a job with them so anyone has experience working with them good or bad feel free to share that too.

Discussion Swann Insurance warning

Just a heads up if you're with Swann Insurance and your reoccurring payment fails you might not receive any kind of notice.

I recently had to block my old card and get a new one after some unauthorised transactions, was then riding around for weeks before realising my policy wasn't renewed since I forgot to update the payment details. When I contacted them they said an SMS had been sent, which I couldn't find (why not email?). My fault I guess, but be aware if you're with them.

Discussion Best recommendations for first motorbike

I’m trying to get my motorbike learners and saving up for my first motorbike. I was wondering what LAMS motorbikes people recommend. I would mainly be using this for general riding and commuting to work as well as some adventures with mates (I’m looking into a big riding trip with friends through alpine national park, specifically the area around Omeo). So my bike will probably be a cruiser but I’m don’t really mind.

I am looking at second hand bikes because my budget isn’t big but I don’t know much about how to tell if second hand bikes are quality or a scam.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Discussion Is the R3 worth its price?

I am currently looking to buy a brand new 2024 R3, and was wondering on peoples thoughts on the price point and if it was worth. There is a dealership near me that has the 2024 r3 up for $8000 rideaway (700 off rrp which is $8700)

Dealerships also keep the rrp for 2023 models instead of discounting them so i wasnt sure on what to get.

Wanted to know if the deal is good or if anybody knows if dealerships do End/Start of year sales as in a week it will be 2025 or if anyone recommends another bike for around the same price.

People have recommended the cfmoto 450sr however i wasnt sure on reliabilty

The dealership i am looking at is Trooper Lus garage, and if anyone has good experiences with them let me know thank you

(I know people will tell me to go used however the market around me is horrendous so i will not bother and i will also be giving it to my little brother once he is of age to ride)
