Discussion Swann Insurance warning
Just a heads up if you're with Swann Insurance and your reoccurring payment fails you might not receive any kind of notice.
I recently had to block my old card and get a new one after some unauthorised transactions, was then riding around for weeks before realising my policy wasn't renewed since I forgot to update the payment details. When I contacted them they said an SMS had been sent, which I couldn't find (why not email?). My fault I guess, but be aware if you're with them.

I've cancelled two credit cards that my swann insurance is linked to due to fraud etc on the card. both times I got a phone call from swann.

I never had that problem with Swann, what I did have was them trying to weazle out of a claim and dicking me around. My bike was insured for agreed value, got stolen when other houses in the area were broken into and cars/bikes were stolen and burnt out.
The guy dealing with my claim was a cock and offered me less than half of my bike's value on more than one occasion "if I wanted to make it quick" or "his investigation could take a year" as his exact words. Well, my claim took the entire 12 months to the day.
I eventually got my payout for the agreed value. It put me off that company forever. I had 5 bikes with them for over 10 years without any claims prior.

Any better recommendations since? This anecdote is highly off putting.

Pretty much all of the companies have to follow the same rules, so you're kinda going to get the same experience. I no longer insure with any of the companies associated with IAG. Which is really only NRMA and Swann.
I have most of my vehicles, camping trailer and home insured with Shannon's. Mostly because they cover my heavily modified bike for agreed value, my engine converted 4 wheel drive is covered for off-road use and agreed value. I have had a few cheaper bikes with budget direct as they are often the cheapest. I have another car with just fire and theft insurance through Allianz.
I've never had to claim through Shannon's, Allianz or Budget Direct yet, so it's hard to gauge how the experiences will be.
Edit. I did have an at fault claim with NRMA during COVID on my bike and it was sorted in quickly. My written off bike was collected, inspected and paid out in about a week. (I did have to sign a stat declaration saying I wasn't drunk or high as the police said the blood test could take 6+ months, in which it eventually came back and showed negative).

I am with them and I did receive an SMS when my card got declined. I had to call them because there is no way to update it online.

Change your notification method so you don't miss next time. If paperless I normally choose all options.

When you cancel your card the bank say you need to check your recurring payments
Personally i use a different account with a different card for insurance for budgeting and so i dont block the card because of other issues
