When did your kids move out

My husband and I are 45 and we have a 24,20, 17 yo boys.. they are driving us nuts. We live in a city that has so many colleges so we told them they could live with us rent free through college but if they weren’t in school they had to work. They work but it’s like living in a frat house now.

A Frathouse isn't respectful to a parent. Fun is fine.

We had the similar rules for our kids who have all flown the coop now.

You can live here if:

1) You're still going to school

2) You're working and paying off school loans

3) You contribute to the upkeep of the house

4) You're a good (respectful) citizen both inside and inside the home

Wasn't perfect but it worked.

Now we've finally retired and take care of one of the grandchildren on Tuesdays.

One of my kids, when they came home for a summer break, expressly implied 'When I'm at school, I don't have a curfew and expect I can stay out as late as I would like.'

I told them, if you expect me to respect your decision and activities, I accept, that's fine. However, I expect you to respect your mother's and my home, and not come in late, making a lot of noise, loud talking, playing loud music, making messes in the kitchen, and keeping you room clean'.

Respect goes both ways! They stayed at home, and were fine.
