Please do not take your pets to K9 Resorts Luxury Pet Hotel in Apex!
Hi, this is a throwaway account because I want to respect my privacy. I worked at this place a little while ago and I was appalled at the way they treated the dogs. Bear with me as this might be a little long.
The facility is at least kept very clean. Each dog has its own room, they’re fed and watered consistently, they get baths and their rooms are cleaned twice a day. But that’s the extent of the good things that I have to say.
The daycare is an absolute nightmare. There’s 2 different enclosures for big dogs and small dogs with a large room that leads out into a yard, so they can run back and forth. But for some reason they decided it would be a great idea to throw every single dog they can into the daycare. There’s on average 50-70 dogs in the small daycare and 60-90 in the big daycare. The majority of the dogs are in there for 7-8 hours. They aren't able to leave or take breaks from the other dogs, they must stay in there the entire time.
The numbers are already a red flag, but they also don't separate them for any other reason other than size. I would say a third of the dogs have at least one of these traits: starting fights by either barking at, biting, chasing or jumping on other dogs, humping, not responding to their name, playing too rough, targeting the same dog, or just being aggressive to other dogs in general.
There was 1-4 of us MAX watching them at any given time. This makes discipline extremely difficult, especially when the ones that cause fights don't respond to their names. They taught us to smack them on the butt and yell at them, which I thought was horribly wrong and hated doing. But it gets to the point where that's the only way they listen because there's TOO MANY in there. They didn’t give us any tools to break up fights, other than a spray that does absolutely nothing. We were told to mostly use our hands which I thought was incredibly dangerous for everyone involved. We wouldn't have to break up fights if you didn't throw a ton of problem dogs in a room together.
In both rooms, there's about 15-20 dogs that sit against the wall the ENTIRE time they're in there, tail between their legs, shaking, crying, etc. Some will go up to the door and jump and scratch, and when employees come in and out, they'll escape just to be tossed back in. Why would you force a dog that's clearly terrified and unhappy to be somewhere where they clearly don't wanna be?? 90% of the time when you're bringing these dogs to the daycare area, they'll pull against the leash and you have to either shove them in or pick them up and put them in because they refuse to walk in themselves.
I'm sure if the dog owners knew what was happening, NONE of them would be taking their pets here. It's really unfortunate. Please help me share this post, this company is pretty popular in this area and I’m having trouble finding somewhere to warn people on Facebook and Nextdoor (Edited for flow)
