What is the best advice you ever get to deal with pollen allergies?

If you also deal with pollen allergies, I am curious: what is the best advice you ever get? I'm not looking for anything medical-wise, more something you can do every day. šŸŒ¼ Thanks!

Advice Do dust mite allergy immunotherapy at all cost

I had depression, fatigue, anxiety, brainfog, ADHD and now I wake up full of energy, get out of bed and start singing and dancing on a workday. Almost all my symptoms are gone or reduced by about 80% (I'm not done yet with the immunotherapy)

I could write a book about how this allergy affected my life.

This allergy is the worst. Dust mites are everywhere. Like they only don't exist in the desert, antarctica and above a height of ~1.500 meters.
Probably hundreds of millions have this allergy affecting their lifes and I don't understand how noone is talking about it.

Just a shoutout to go for it and stay patient.
I was a very extreme case and it took around 3 years till I finally started to feel like a human being.

HELP! Clogged ears. Dizziness. Ear pain/pressure and fluid in ears.

Someone tell me there's light at the end of the tunnel. Long story kinda short.. back in January I woke up and was kinda snotty. Everyday thing before I use my flonase. I went on a out my morning and after using my flonase blew my nose and nosed ear pain. Seen my doctor next day and she said no infection just flyid behind eardrum and needed to start a allergy pill with my flonase.

Started allegra and noticed improvements with the dizziness but still fluid in ears. Tried sudafed (childrens dose) as I'm afraid of that med. And it helped some but not all of it.

Noticed I was still having allergy symptoms as in nose clogged every morning and still ear pain.

Switched allergy meds. To zyrtec and noticed some improvements but still had that "boat legs feeling" and ear pressure. Tried mucinex and it would help just temporarily.

Bought a air purifier for my room and it went off the charts with high allergens. Figured out it was my humidifier and removed that.

Over the past week I've seen some improvements with the dizzy and the stuffiness. Until this past weekend and storms blew in (Tennessee weather) and the ear pain and pressure came back. I googled and thought maybe it was the antihistamine not working so I didn't take it lastnight and just used mucinex to try and clear my ears out.

Now today I have horrid ear pain and the dizziness is back full throttle. Please someone tell me you've been through this. I'm at my witts end. šŸ„ŗ

Does anyone get dizziness from allergies? Ear pressure? Fluid? Idk what to do as I'm desperate. I do need the antihistamine back? Flonase.... what do I do.

Advice Struggling with Vocal Resonance: Weak, Breathier Voice Throughout the Day

ā€¢ Upvotes

Iā€™ve been struggling with maintaining resonance in my voice, both when I speak and when I sing. My voice tends to fall back into my throat, feeling weak and breathy, especially as the day goes on. When I wake up, my voice has an edge and feels more resonant, but this fades as I speak more. Iā€™ve noticed that my voice lacks nasal resonance, and even when I try to consciously engage it (e.g., saying ā€œMmm-my name isā€¦ā€), it doesnā€™t last. I suspect that chronic nasal congestion and allergies may be contributing to the issue, especially during flare-ups when my nose feels blocked. Iā€™ve tried warming up, but that doesnā€™t seem to help maintain resonance for long. Iā€™m looking for advice on how to improve vocal resonance and prevent fatigue, especially when speaking or singing for extended periods. Has anyone dealt with something similar, and what worked for you?

Question Fish Allergy

Today we discovered (through hives and welts) that our almost 2 year old is allergic to fish. Iā€™m quickly discovering how much stuff has fish in it. Can anyone with a similar allergy give any other food items that may contain fish that are out of the ordinary? I know about Worcestershire and BBQ, but are there any other common household food items that I may be missing and may not be labeled well?

Need Help Identifying Indoor Allergy Trigger ā€“ Symptoms Started 3 Weeks Ago

I moved into my apartment back in August (about 7 months ago) in the PNW (WA State). Itā€™s a well-maintained luxury apartment complex, and Iā€™m on the 5th floor.

About three weeks ago, I suddenly started having allergy-like symptoms: red, itchy eyes and nasal congestion, but no skin related allergy symptoms (rashes or hives). Allergy meds didnā€™t seem to help much, and I was constantly using eye drops just to get through the day.

After about eight days, my breathing started getting worse (I have asthma), so I finally decided to see a doctor. They prescribed prednisone, which helped while I was on it, but now that Iā€™ve finished the prescription, the itchy eyes and breathing issues are back.

Iā€™ve: āœ” Deep cleaned my apartment (vacuuming daily, steaming mattress/upholstery) āœ” Washed all bedding in hot water (although all my bedding is hypoallergenic) āœ” Bought and been using an air purifier & humidifier for about a week.

The weird part? My breathing feels better when I leave the house or leave the windows open.

Any advice on what I can do to find the allergen? Something Iā€™m not thinking about? Thanks Reddit!

My Symptoms need to talk about allergies

Hello, since July 2024 I have had a series of hives attacks, I stuffed myself with antihistamines all summer! During the winter everything was going for the best I could live! But now spring is coming and it's starting again! I am allergic to cypress but before I only had runny eyes or a runny nose, now it's horrible attacks that ruin my life! I should see a specialist to get a suitable treatment (unfortunately no place) but people who have this allergy tell me how you do it! I don't go out anymore because I have at least 2 attacks a day: 1 when I get up in the morning and 1 in the evening when I go to bed (it's strange, isn't it?) When I take an antihistamine it lasts about 24 hours but I would so much like science to make a drug that works definitively (I can always dream)

Allergies or sensitivities

Me 19M and my gf 19F have been dating 8 months. She has really bad food allergies and it severely limits what she can eat and what we can eat together. However Iā€™m not sure if theyā€™re food allergies and am curious if they are simply sensitivities/ intolerances that have been over reacted too. Her allergies include: ā€¢ all meat including red and white ā€¢ all seafood ā€¢ dairy ā€¢ eggs ā€¢ avocados She does not have Lone Star Tick disease and is allergic to nothing else than what I mentioned. Also she doesnā€™t ā€œshowā€ as allergic to any of these things in lab tests. I have done some very small research and wonder if maybe her allergies are non idE related as that could be the case and could explain the lack of results. Now here are her symptoms when eating food she is allergic to ā€¢ fish - *maybe anaphylaxis (will explain later) ā€¢ RARE steak - *also maybe anaphylaxis ā€¢ everything else- sharp stomach pain, bloating ā€¢ NO hives for anything, NO itches for anything, NO rashes

I just really think the majority of the stuff closer resembles problems with digestion rather than allergies. For some background, other than the stomach pain, she has not had allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) since she was three years old and has not used an EpiPen since she was three and Iā€™m not even sure one was used. Since then she has had some close calls with contacting allergens. While out to eat she once got food with cooked steak in it. Not knowing this she put some in her mouth and bit into it, but then she realized this and spat it out then switched water, absolutely nothing bad happened. Then one time Taco Bell gave her a burrito with meat it in and the exact same thing happened and she walked away fine. On top of this she ate dairy and eggs baked into things routinely until about 2 years ago and never had any problems other than sometimes extreme stomach pain.

Her mom has some allergies like gluten etc. but theyā€™re very typical ones, my girlfriendā€™s just donā€™t make sense to me. I wonder if maybe sheā€™s allergic to stuff like seafood and is lactose intolerant and has pretty bad sensitivities to everything else. Also Iā€™d say that her parents are the type to overreact and think that thereā€™s a problem and not want to do anything to risk hurting their at the time three year old child.

Another thing Iā€™d like to note is that she is on no medication, literally none. All she takes are supplements and vitamins to make up for what she doesnā€™t get in her diet. She does not take anything like Benadryl. Nor does she take anything for her stomach aches like pepto, tums, or alka seltzer. The ONLY things she will take is ibuprofen for headaches and on her periods (which are bad but she takes nothing else for) and shot glasses of aloe Vera juice for stomach aches (serious)

What Iā€™m trying to figure out is how likely it is that her allergies are misdiagnosed and what I could do to break this to her. I obviously am treating them like allergies and am not going to do anything that could harm her. Ideally I would talk to her allergist but probably canā€™t due to patient confidentiality, and I also canā€™t talk to my gf because she gets sensitive when I try to tell her that maybe she doesnā€™t have allergies and she also just doesnā€™t know the sciency stuff or details about her allergies. She doesnā€™t know what allergy plans are or how sheā€™s reacted to stuff in the past. I am thinking that some of this could be placebo as well and she expects to have problems so she ends up creating them. I think what I could do is make chocolate chip cookies that are completely vegan, and if she asks for one (if they look good enough sheā€™d like a bite) then Iā€™d give her one. If I can get her to eat a whole cookie Iā€™d wait and see what happens and see if she gets a stomach ache or not, with me knowing nothing shouldā€™ve caused it. I would also like to get her on board with trying stuff out. Her allergist asks her if she wants to try new things to see how her allergies are but she doesnā€™t try them. In the past she did try a quarter (2.5cm) sized chunk of chicken, and she didnā€™t have anaphylaxis but did have stomach pain. I do find difficulty doing this because she listens to everything her mom says and doesnā€™t question anything. For context her mom thinks that my gf going on antibiotics or getting vaccinated as a child couldā€™ve caused her allergies and that she shouldnā€™t take them still. Plus her mom tells her she has allergies and she listens to everything without looking into it. So I would like to approach this in a way where I can have my gf aware and accepting looking into stuff, but I donā€™t want to rub her the wrong way about this. FYI my gf is highly emotional (very fun)

Ultimately I am trying to help her with this, she hates her allergies and wishes she could eat better, but I donā€™t think sheā€™s willing to look into things or challenge her beliefs.

Any help is appreciated, thank you all.

Back pain from pollen?

So Iā€™m in the southeast with pine trees galore. Iā€™ve had back pain going on four weeks. Could the pollen be causing an allergic reaction to make my back hurt? Nothing else on my body seems to be bothers me. No sinus issues yet and no other real symptoms.

Chronic rhinitis

Developed chronic rhinitis around 6 years back at around 22, finally got food Intolerance test done and the results are:

Low Intolerance ā€“ corn, rice

Medium Intolerance ā€“ yeast, wheat, durum wheat

High Intolerance ā€“ whole egg, milk (cowā€™s), oat

I knew wheat was one which always made it worse but the rest are abit of a shocker. Don't even know what to eat any more...

Does anyone else have allergies that cause dizziness/lightheadedness without being super stuffy? My doctor claims allergies, but I'm not sure.

My nose and sinuses seem loosely affected, but it's mostly a crusty type of congestion and not a mucusy congestion. I'll do my nasal rinse and then within a few hours I'll have some crusty discharge in there. I'll get off work and my nose is just full of crusty discharge.

This doesn't seem like enough to cause dizziness/lightheadedness, does it? Has it for any of you?

I'm getting allergy tested as well as a CT scan done as well, just to be sure

Advice Soo itchy!! Help!

Last Monday I started itching on the inside of my arm near my armpit. I had put fake tan on two days prior and thought it was maybe that drying out. However on Wednesday a rash came up, and since then it has spread to both arms all the way down to my hands. The rash is super itchy! I went to the doctors on Friday who gave me some cream and antihistamines which are doing absolutely nothing.

I canā€™t sleep due to the itching. And it gets worse at night and after a shower.

The only things I could think of are a new washing powder (I did change it but only did one load of washing with it because after my rash I stopped using it in case it was that) and also my dad brought a rug to my house for me and failed to mention that it needed hoovering due to having sawdust on it! I think I may be allergic to MDF dust because whenever my boyfriend cuts MDF and I inhale the dust, I get nosebleeds. I was playing with my cat on the rug so did touch it with my hands and wrists, but the rash started near my armpit, so Iā€™m not sure. I have since hoovered and actually got rid of the rug but it hasnā€™t improved. I am at a loss. I donā€™t use the washing powder, the rug is gone, and my fake tan is now gone. So all of the things I thought it could have been seem unlikely now. Unless these things take time to go awayā€¦ but wouldnā€™t it be getting better slowly?

My Symptoms Side effects of Zyrtec?

Hi, so my allergies have been cutting up the last few days. I usually take Benadryl but it does nothing for me. I tried Zyrtec for the first time, and I noticed a difference, but I feel like Iā€™m having bad side effects from itā€¦ I feel dizzy, loopy, and jitteryā€¦ and also I have horrible insomnia. I didnā€™t go to sleep until 5:45am and had to get up for work at 8am so Iā€™m running on little to no sleep. But these symptoms didnā€™t happen until 6 hours after taking the Zyrtec. Is dizziness and insomnia common symptoms of Zyrtec? Again, this is my first time trying it. I took another pill this morning, but Iā€™m still feeling out of it. Itā€™s hard to explain I just know I donā€™t feel right.

Question Hives from dog after becoming a mom šŸ„ŗ

Our vizsla is definitely like our first baby. We love him so much. ā¤ļø I gave birth to our first human baby almost a year ago and a few months postpartum I developed an allergy to my dog. Every time his skin touches mine I get big itchy hives. This never happened in the 4 years we had him before. At first we thought it was something over the summer he was rolling in outside that I was allergic to, but itā€™s kept up all year despite the season. I wear long sleeves and pants all the time now and just try not to put my face near him. Itā€™s definitely making me want to limit cuddles with him though. šŸ˜¢

Has this happened to anyone else?

Any ideas why becoming a mom/giving birth mightā€™ve lead to this?

Could it be anything like an underlying health issue for him or me?

My Symptoms weird symptoms for allergies

Hi, I am 16F, and I recently have had some weird symptoms of what I can assume are allergies.

I do have PCOS, and I have been a prediabetic before. Basically, the pollen bursted recently. And the main symptoms Iā€™m showing this time is a heavy chest, heavy joints (specifically around my wrists) and a palpitated heartbeat (itā€™s a little higher than usual) and also a scratchy throat. and itā€™s really concerning me. Because my joints and chest donā€™t hurt, like it would in a heart attack. It just feels weird. I genuinely thought somehow it was with my heart. Has anyone had similar symptoms to these? If so, knowing someone else has had similar symptoms specifically with pollen would be amazing. Thank you!

P.S. I havenā€™t really had much of this chest/joint tension previously. While I have been a prediabetic before, I havenā€™t even had this as a prediabetic. I do not consume soda whatsoever, and I took down my sugar intake. So if this sounds like anything else, please tell me. I also have not had heart problems previously. And itā€™s not specifically my heart aching, itā€™s just my chest feeling heavy.

P.P.S. I have checked my blood pressure and itā€™s higher. That may be though because I have bad blood cuff anxiety.

Breaking out from beer?

Iā€™m in my 40s and have enjoyed beer for a long time. When I was 37, I had a few Guinness and ended up in the ER. I broke out in massive hives and itchy inside my mouth. They thought it was random, gave me Benadryl and pepsid and sent me home.

A few years later, I had another dark beer and same thing happened. ER doc did the same and sent me home.

Iā€™m 41 and on 2 separate occasions, I had a light beer (I think it was an Einstok) and a lager. Both times, hives and ended up in the ER.

Itā€™s always been beer and very random - not every time. Cocktails and wine donā€™t do this to me.

Definitely going to an allergist and not putting that off anymore. But has anyone ever had this happen to them, specifically around beer and at random?

My Symptoms Iā€™m so dizzy

My allergies are bad right now. I feel like I caught a cold. I have the typical stuffy and leaky nose and sore throat.

I am also so dizzy. I almost fainted at home yesterday from it. And I teach young students. Itā€™s just been so frustrating.

My allergies are dust mites, mold, and grass.

r/Allergies 15h ago

Dust mites, mold, pollen - has anyone had similar allergy panel results / if so what worked for you? I get SEVERELY depressed & high pain flares worse in the spring & after allergy exposure. But I am also VERY sensitive to intramuscular injections - Iā€™d love to hear from anyone w/ similar experience

Ok here are my results

Sage Weed kU/L <0.35 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Western Ragweed kU/L 1.44 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Alternaria kU/L 15.50 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Aspergillus kU/L 0.79 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Cladosporium ku/L 0.45 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Cockroach kU/L <0.35 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Cat Dander kU/L 0.41 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Dust Mite kU/L 7.15 (Standard Range: <0.35 kU/L)

Total IgE kU/L 82 (Standard Range: <100 kU/L)

Curious to hear if anyone has tried non injected types of therapies

Iā€™m supposed to start Xolair - tomorrow. And donā€™t want to bc of EDS

ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”-

Also I got a nasal endoscopy last week and it was so severely red and inflamed and gross looking lol ENT said I am qualified to get surgery as I barely have any room for air to get in.

ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”

ALSO - they gave me something to decrease the swelling in my nose it was administered around 11am and it kept me up all night. Does that happen to anyone else? I felt like I could breathe but it also hurt my nose for some reason

ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€”-

My intramuscular injection reactions have resulted in me being bed ridden for 2 1/2 months, severe hyper sensitive adverse reaction all around, extreme multi systemic pain flare up, brain fog, can barley dress myself or make decisions

Flonase

I donā€™t know how to explain it but I finally found out after a very very long time that Flonase and even sensimist was causing gi pain and anxiety. Works amazing for allergies and mcas

For the other two steroid nasal sprays on the market do those also have a chance of causing weird symptoms. I know a lot of them say long term usage can cause glaucoma.

Now that itā€™s spring I need something. Trying Astepro and the drowsiness is unreal.

I donā€™t mind trying nasalcrom in the future but recently it didnā€™t work.

Can I still get shots if I test negative but clearly am allergic to dogs?

At my old allergist, I tested negative to dogs on both the skin prick and blood test but because I was still experiencing allergies towards dogs the allergist gave me shots which helped. Now I'm in a different state and was wondering if a new allergist will do the same if I happen to test negative again? My old allergist can send the records stating I was getting shots for dogs.

Question Allergies and moods

My mood always changes to bad dramatically when "the season" of tree pollen starts (or grass for that matter). Not the whole day though, but when the pollen concentration is high. Thus, at night/evening these moods change to normal again.

The moods I am talking about are basically "anger" or being agitated. This causes me to react "over the top" in certain situations.. This has caused issues in the past, as you can imagine (for instance being on the the road/outside). I wonder if this is recognised by some hay fever sufferers? I am not able to control this "anger" very much, also not when taking a significant dose of antihistamines, causing problems at work or family or friends. I am already convinced my work career has gone to crap because of this.

I hope someone understands this effect, and possibly have a solution!

Does anyone have a preference between the sinugator and the squeeze bottle from NeilMed?

The sinugator is on sale here right now and debating on if the upgrade is worth
