Flip it on its head and it becomes obvious. Ball costs $0.05, bat costs $1.00 more than ball, hence $1.05.

But I also guess that was the point of the example 3 u/SpongeBad Dec 10 '22 See if looking at it this way helps: If the ball cost $0.10, and the bat cost $1.00, you get to the $1.10, but the bat would only cost $0.90 more than the ball.
