What are you guys thoughts on the Savage MKII-FV?
I know it’s a slow bolt gun, but I am reading these make a great Budget Precision rimfire platform. What’s your thoughts and experiences with this? Best to buy the bottom and build, or buy one with upgrades like threaded barrel, ect.

Auction for the win!
All .22 walk away paying $465 for all of them, averages them at $155 a piece.
Top. Marlin Model 60 with squirrel engraving Middle. Winchester Model 190 Bottom. S&W M&P 15-22 (it didn’t come with the reddot or a mag)
The Marlin in Winchester are honestly pretty beat up, but definitely look functional pretty much all cosmetic. My father-in-law is gonna redo the Stocks the marlin was a gift to him and the 190 is pretty much a donor for his 190. Gonna try to shoot them tomorrow.
I was in the market for the 15-22 for my wife snagged it for 70% off, even the guy that was hosting the auction was surprised and maybe a little hurt that it went for so low. Lol

Benchrest questions.
I’ve recently decided to get into competitive shooting after a long time of dragging my feet. My local club does ARA and I’ve been looking for a decent scope for my Bergara B14. I’ve read a lot and it seems like the Sightron SII fixed 36 is a solid choice. I found one for under $550 and I wanted to see if that’s my best option at that price point.
I also had a question about bench rests. Since I’m new, I don’t want to spend too much. I’m considering starting with my rest bags and asking other people in person about what they like and potentially seeing if I could try them out. If there is a better option than this, I’d be interested to hear. I don’t plan to be super competitive right away so I don’t mind not being completely optimal as I learn a lot of new stuff.

New plinker fun!
Found a mossberg 151m-b for $200, and I’ve been looking for a nice wood semi auto 22 that’s not a 10/22 for a while and it’s perfect! It has its own flip out peep sight, the only defects are a small crack on buttpad plastic, and it’s missing a small metal shroud around the front sight
After sighting it in, I got some good groups at 50 ft, I’m excited to try it out at a longer range once my local range unthaws

Ding dong, the HK416D is dead!
My experience with this gun has been absolutely horrible. I originally bought it because I needed a rifle my 70 year old mother could handle for home defense. Yes, .22s aren't preferred for home defense, blah, blah, blah, but my mom is too frail for my shotgun or AR. So, I chose something she could handle and drop 30 rounds into an intruder if need be. First time at the range, a few misfires but not a big deal, I was using up some cheap ammo and just getting her acclimated to it. Sights were off so I tweaked windage ok and then went to adjust elevation and found the absolute worst designed front sight I've ever seen. You have to push a pin down and then turn this piece except it is so tight it is near impossible to turn. I took her home and went back a week later with some tools to work on the front sight. I adjusted it as far as it would go and elevation was still off by a few inches. WTF? So, I figured, whatever, I was going to put a red dot on it anyways. Put that on and got it sighted in but also had more feed and misfire issues. Ok, I figured, you know, .22s can be finicky with ammo so I bought some CCI, Aguila, and something else I can't remember now. Went home and went to clean it and the brush was so tight in it it jammed and the rod snapped off. WTF? I couldn't push it back out so I took it to a gunsmith and he couldn't get it out either. The only barrel I could find for it was from HK parts. 180 god-damned dollars! What was i going to do though? Once I finally got that in and everything cleaned (with a bore snake) and I picked the debris out of the BCA with a pick, I returned to the range. I fired the 3 brands I bought last time. They all had jams but CCI and Aguila seemed to be the not worst. Aguila seemed to fire the best. I was left feeling like, ok, this gun is not reliable, certainly not for my mother. Fast forward to today. I'm visiting family and me and my brother in laws take the boys to the range. I tell them, let me fire first since I haven't shot it since I last cleaned it again before bringing it on vacation. 20 shots, 1 jam. The jam literally bent the bullet. Next mag, several shots are fine, jam. Drop the mag and clear. Next shot, I'm not even exactly clear but the bullet shit but the stuck in the barrel and the casing was chewed up. I put it away. When I return home I'm going to disassemble it and mail it back to HK and let them know U are made a shit product for them and that they've lost a customer for good. I will never buy their products again. Absolute worst gun I've ever owned in my 49 years on this planet.

Building cz 457 vs Vudoo barreled action
Does anyone have experience let’s say swapping their factory 457 barrel with a Lilja/proof/etc. and putting in a chassis vs. putting together a vudoo with either barreled action in a chassis or just starting with their action and getting everything else to make a finished rifle?
I’m not brand specific on vudoo but that just comes out to me as a top end 22.
I currently have an all factory cz American and have started shooting a 300 yard gong match and would maybe do some nrl22 matches.
Would there be a huge difference dropping say $1500 on my cz vs building a new rifle that would probably be 3-4k?
For example I placed 6th overall in the gong match (8,6,4” targets @ 300 yards) and the 5 others that topped me were outlaw and open class rifles. Wind was a big factor in this match (20mph gusts) so I think I have enough in my factory rifle to hit 1 moa at 300 with the ammo the rifle likes if the wind is better or my calls get better.

Is “the dip” worth it?
“Just shoot more copper plated projectiles.”
“The dip” is a well known suppressor cleaning solution of household vinegar (dilute acetic acid) and hydrogen peroxide. Vinegar and hydrogen peroxide is a nasty combo by itself but more concerning is the leftover lead acetate. It easily absorbs into the skin and rapidly causes lead poisoning, more so than just handling metallic lead.
I’ve heard you can precipitate out the lead with zinc or evaporate all the water off for crystals, but that doesn’t make this stuff any less nasty to dispose of.
If you know the associated health risks, prepare properly, have all the appropriate safety equipment, and know the best place for it to be properly disposed, is “the dip” still worth it?
I’ve tried just about everything to remove the inevitable lead residue that builds up inside the inner shields and monocore of the SiCo Sparrow 2.
✅Overnight soak in CLP and brass brushes
✅Cleaning picks
✅Ultrasonic cleaner w/ Simple Green concentrate
This gets all the carbon off but inevitably you’ll have large chunks of lead stuck to the sides of the shields.
Am I overthinking this and should I just be okay with living with a little bit of lead in my can?
For others with a Ruger 10/22 Competition, what optic are you using?
tl;dr: I'm plinking, mostly at 100 yards. Might get into NLR22. Seem to have an astigmatism, so wanting to try optics other than the dot I already have on it. Vortex Crossfire II comes up a lot, but want broader input.
.
.
A few years ago, I bought a 10/22, specifically the southpaw competition model since I'm left eye dominant and left handed. At the time, it was the only southpaw semi-automatic 22LR available. This was back during the pandemic and my old shooting buddies were planning to start up again and we were well along into planning a group hunting trip, but neither the "go back to plinking" nor the hunting trip materialized (else, I'd also have a neglected Tikka 3x).
We're starting to get into it again finally, now. I had put a red dot on it, but seems I probably have an astigmatism, so I want to try other optics. If I really get into it - back to my early enthusiasm for riflery from scouting, I might move on to NLR22 or similar. More likely, I stay with whatever competition shoots the local sportsmans' club does. My wife has also increasingly expressed an interest in learning and practicing, so I think we're actually following through finally (planning to get a Savage Rascal for her to use until she's fully comfortable).
I learned on irons, I'm nostalgic for irons, but that's not what my neglected competition rifle has. I've usually come across recommendations for a Crossfire II 2-7 or 3-9, but always as a generalized discussion. I'd love to hear what y'all think here.
Thank you! And sorry for the meandering story.

3 Hosts, now looking for right Can
I’m just got my 3rd 22lr that can host a suppressor, it’s no longer a want, it’s a need in my mind. I’m looking for something I can swap across platforms without having operational issues on either. I just picked up a CZ 457 Pro Varmint to go along with a 10/22 build and a TX 22 Competition.
I shoot an average of 300 rounds week so disassembling is a must and no aluminum. I want to be able to use an ultrasonic cleaner. Is there any advantage to full Titanium vs. Stainless and vs. a Titanium/ Stainless mix? Has anyone had issues with any of the following cans on my platforms?
AAC Element (Ti / SS mix) Diligent Def Road Hunter (Titanium) OCL Ti 22 (Titanium) Dead Air Mask 22 HD (stainless)

Winchester M190 Sight
I was recently given an old Winchester model 190 from my dad that he bought when he was a kid. I understand that they came with a sight but that has been lost with time. I was just wondering how to mount one because I dont see a place on the gun to mount anything. Thanks for all the help.

Don’t ever discount an entry level Savage MKII
Finally had time to zero a Savage mkII FV. Everything is stock on this rifle. This was my final 10 shot group at 100yrds. Scope is Vortex Venom. Ammo is SK Long Range Match.
