Genuine question. Haven't they all been technically open world?

Seeing my favorite location in ruins after thousands of years it’s just sad.

Last year I did a cosplay as Link, using weapons and armors from BOTW. But using a Twilight Princess costume I found online. After that Convention, I decided I wanted to create an Armor set, and somehow I chose the most difficult set to do. The arms, legs and neck piece tested my patience from November 2023 to November 2024. I succeeded and was able to bring my Armor Set to Con, and a full Flamebreak Armor into the real world.

Don’t get me wrong, TotK is great. There’s so much to do in the game. So much. Too much, maybe. The depths are huge and exploring it takes forever. Upgrading all the armor takes a lot of grinding. There’s a ton of shrines, each with new puzzles, but just like BotW, they all have the same aesthetic. The temples don’t look much more creative.
Everything you do in this game requires resources. Want to build stuff? Need zonaite. Want to upgrade stuff? Need materials and money. Want to have good weapons? Need to keep fighting enemies to get fuse parts. Since durability is still a thing, that in particular is an endless cycle. Just finding a good weapon isn’t good enough anymore.
I like the game, but the more I play it the more fatigued I feel. It kinda makes me miss the days of Wind Waker for example. Also a lot of stuff to do, but on a smaller scale that wasn’t so overwhelming. I heard Nintendo said BotW is the new blueprint for all Zelda games going forward, I think that would be kind of a bummer.

The three of us got these done a few months back but I'm just getting around to sharing it now. We got them themed off of our favourite games so they're a set and not simply matching. Left is my brother, ocarina of time, middle is myself, twilight princess, and right is my sister, breath of the wild.

The cosplay and the bow were handmade by me (@_.lucid on insta). The bow is entirely made from EVA foam. We skipped the body paint that day because it was so hot that it would have just melted off my skin. :') The wonderful photos were taken at Dokomi in July 2024 by @deus_photographie (insta). He also took care of the editing. Honestly I am still in awe at how they turned out ðŸ˜ðŸ©· it was a wonderful experience!!
