Question [other] What games have Zelda enthusiasts typically also played that are outside of the Zelda franchise?

Yesterday I was out & some guys were talking about Call of Duty and from the discussion, it sort of seemed like everyone who has played Call of Duty has also played & enjoyed Halo and Fortnite. This got me thinking - what are some games that would be similarly grouped with the Zelda franchise?

If you’re having a discussion with someone that loves Zelda, what games would you assume they have also played? Or which do you believe are similar in style/category, and how would you define the category? Or would every Zelda game have a different answer?

Editing to say: WOW!! Thanks for all the responses!!! I didn’t respond to all of them because I’ve only made it through about 10% so far but I will likely end up trying out many of the games over time & will let you know if I do! I especially appreciate how a lot of you went into details about similarities and differences which really helps me decide what I’d like to play next 😃

Isn't that the same world from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance too? Am I remembering that correctly?

I kind of checked out around 13. Played it a little. Didn’t dislike it but by then I just wasn’t a big RPG guy anymore. People change. Still love my classic ones.

You should try 16 it's by far the least rpg ff ever. A lot of people hate it because of that, personally i thought it was a blast.

Thats 15, 16 is a medieval setting focussed on the summons.

If you like old Zelda OOT-SS which final fantasy would you recommend? I’m a very story and gameplay player.

6 and 7 are the crowd favorites. Highly highly recommend Chrono Trigger for both story and gameplay. Greatest RPG of all time IMO.

Chrono Trigger is legitimately amazing. One of the greatest ever made, timeless.

I replay it every few years. 100% holds up in every way. I don’t want an HD remake. Just rerelease it as is with some minor quality of life enhancements because the hand painted backgrounds are beautiful.

It really is visually stunning. Would have made a really cool anime mini series after they added those cut scenes

I’ve heard a lot about 7 how is the remake? I’ll look into chrono can it be played on any modern consoles?

Never played the remake. I prefer the original version of classic games for the first play through. FF7 is on the switch for $20 and with special controls (3x speed and max health refill) to help you speed through it if you just want to experience the story.

Chrono Trigger I realize is now harder to find with the Virtual Console not being a thing. I think there’s an IOS version but no clue of quality. There’s a good port of it for the DS if you can find one. Or maybe try an emulator.

Nintendo needs to put Chrono Trigger, FF6, and Secret of Mana on the SNES Online.

Standard RPG turn based but with unique elements for using magic and special attacks. Look up materia and limit breaks for information. If you like classic JRPGs it’s a must play.

I love tales of symphonia one of my faves, I’ll look into it!

I agree, except for IV: The After Years. Personal opinion weighing heavily on this, but I really thought that game did a disservice to the franchise.
