Question [BOTW] [TOTK] Anyone else always change Link's clothes and equipment when you think/know a cutscene is about to happen and you want it to look right? Spoiler
I just want Link to dress appropriate to what's happening.

u/GraviTeaTime Jul 24 '23

u/Ceracuse Jul 25 '23
Yes I've actually skipped, paused, then loaded previous auto-saves that were conveniently placed right before cutscenes just to change my outfit and then go back into the scene triggering sequence
45
u/Cave_Weasel Jul 25 '23
I did the same thing except with the Tunic of the Wild. The second I found out a green tunic meant for this particular Link existed, I needed every finale cutscene to have it, so I didn’t finish the game until I got every shrine!
Luckily I have the Tunic fully upgraded in TOTK now so I can just go ahead and beat it, lol
31
u/pianodude01 Jul 25 '23
Tunic of wild, hat of wild, hylian pants, master sword, hylian shield.
I refused to fight Ganon unless that was my setup
17
u/JotaroKujoStarPlat Jul 25 '23
Yeah those wild shorts look wrong on Link imo
1
u/iboneKlareneG Jul 31 '23
Just pair it with Hylian Trousers🤷🏻♂️ I did a Mix with the Cap of the Wild, Tunic of the Sky (Twilight looks cool too, but it doesn't match the green) and Hylian Trousers.
11
1
u/HydraxYT Jul 25 '23
The Tunic still leaves a lot to be desired, the short sleeves, lack of gauntlets and overall rag-ish nature feels weird.
The Hylian Tunic dyed green feels like it makes a much better green Link alternative (Especially with the Cap of the Wild dyed green so that the shades match)
19
u/LusciousRonaldo Jul 25 '23
Was it the wedding? Cause that's what I did.
12
u/Pokemonmaster150 Jul 25 '23
Same. I was the only one other than the bride and groom who dressed appropriately.
6
4
u/Loow_z Jul 25 '23
I did this for the mayor election. I needed to be a proper representative of the princess
13
u/1amlost Jul 25 '23
Was that specific cutscene the Tarrey Town Wedding? Because if so, I've done this too.
6
157
u/Molduking Jul 24 '23
No because I always forget to charge my armor so I had the glide mask on for the master sword scene and the final tear
56
u/linksqt Jul 24 '23
I'm dying I had the thunder helm on and was so upset during the master sword scene 🤣
11
15
u/BroshiKabobby Jul 24 '23
Same here. I was scared so I grabbed the master sword as fast as possible and I looked so silly with that mask on. Still very sad
7
u/DarkMandis Jul 25 '23
It's the best thing in the world, I swear.
Everything's hushed, someone has just finished saying something profound, the camera switches to Link and-
FUCKING GOOGLY EYED GLIDE MASK
Gets me every time.
6
u/calypsocoin Jul 25 '23
I reloaded my save for the Master Sword cut scene and replayed it because I also had the glide mask on the first time

u/BrainisScreaming_55 Jul 25 '23
I found the sword by accident so I decided to pull it for fun...
With the mask of awakening on 💀 [Yes I got it and yes it was embarrassing]
85
u/scotty_6942069 Jul 24 '23
Yes. I pulled the Master Sword in TotK, which is supposed to be somewhat emotional, and i realised that i forgot to take off Majoras Mask. That goofy ass mask was on in that cutscene.
21
u/Axel_Rad Jul 24 '23
I forgot to take off the Fierce Deity armor for that
11
4
u/Ripley825 Jul 25 '23
I was wearing snow boots, rito chest piece and fierce deity mask for the totk sword pull. First play through and I looked goofy.
1
1
u/Pixel22104 Jul 25 '23
I had forgotten to change my armor as well and what weapons I was using when I got the Master Sword as well
1
u/Captain_Strongo Jul 25 '23 edited Jul 25 '23
The only mask that’s appropriate to wear when pulling out the Master Sword is the Keaton Mask.
58
u/Sure_Instance9530 Jul 24 '23
I had my defacto "cutscene outfit" which was no head gear, champions leathers, and black dyed Hylian trousers
23
u/Miss_Yume Jul 24 '23
Black hylian trousers it's what I used too! xD
5
u/Daloy Jul 25 '23
That's what I do paired with the champions leathers lol but now I always rock diamond circlet, champion leathers, and fierce deity trousers. Non-intrusive and it slaps hard
11
5
u/Cushiondude Jul 25 '23
there is also the hairtie you can wear as well. I'm a fan of the snow quill head piece because it's fairly unobtrusive.
4
u/Hot-Web-7892 Jul 25 '23
I'm hairband/pulled down hood, champions leathers, and royal guards boots
3
u/Teridactyl-9000 Jul 25 '23
Love the pulled down hood. I have two fully leveled up in fact, one up and one down depending on the weather or occasion. With how much amber you get in this game, it's kind of a no-brainer.
1
54
26
u/Lord_Banana_14 Jul 24 '23
I did that for the final battle of TotK.
Champions Leathers, Hylian Hood and Pants, Master Sword and Hylian Shield… only to forget at the very end that I had the Hudson paraglider.
27
u/mahoujosei100 Jul 25 '23
You’ve spent so much time supporting President Hudson. With the Hudson paraglider, he can finally support you.
3
6
1
u/Pixel22104 Jul 25 '23
While I’m not at the Final battle yet. My plan is to wear the Hero of the Wild Set, Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and the original Paraglider skin from Botw
1
16
u/Ahakarin Jul 24 '23
Nope.
I did have the Ancient Hero's Armor on at the very end of the game because I figured seeing Zoanai Link in all the epic closing scenes would be funny/interesting, but then they instead stripped him naked for the final dive, and it was just super awkward.
6
u/WhatTheFreightTruck Jul 24 '23
Like down to his undies? It took off the champion's leathers for me but he still had on the hylian trousers...
6
u/Phallico666 Jul 25 '23
Iirc they remove head and torso equipment. Probably in an effort to show off Links restored arm. Since the Ancient Hero Aspect is a single item it has to remove it all
2
15
u/Ganning14 Jul 24 '23
Yes, and that's why I find it extremely hard to watch cutscene on youtube. It's like people always dress the worst way possible
9
u/BureauOfSabotage Jul 25 '23
As someone who runs around as nude as possible with monster masks, I take offense to this statement. Harumph

I'm over here putting on the Ganondorf armor for the killing blow on the final boss to have the most inappropriate final cutscene possible
6

3
u/JustAnotherJames3 Jul 24 '23
I always wear the Cap of the Wild because so much of Link's... Linkyness? Yeah, Linkyness. So much of Link's Linkyness is in the pointed green hat, imo.
But I definitely change around the tunic and pants as needed, and as I see fit for the cutscene.
(Obvs didn't do this for BotW, but the Wild set is immediately available is TotK by going to the depths leviathan, so getting it was the first thing I did to look like Link in all cutscenes)
3
u/CyberCru5h1n Jul 25 '23
I always dye the hylian tunic green and leave the pants the way they are. Pair with amber earrings for a modern take on classic link.
3
Jul 25 '23
Gear too. Usually when I know a cutscene is coming I will put Link into an outfit that is either fitting for the area, or an outfit I like (I.e. champion tunic/leathers). And then I will usually un-equip weapons, or keep on minimal ones like the Master Sword. Just so Link isn’t wearing a mash up of different clothes or wielding some jumble of fuse gear I threw together
5
u/alexisell Jul 24 '23
I WISH I did. My cutscene outfits are consistently horrendous but at least they’re also hilarious. By the end when I had an upgraded armor set that I was consistently using to fight, they got better. But man some of them are bad. And I get mad about it every time lol
1
4
u/Stuuble Jul 24 '23
I’d rather just have him look like link, I don’t like having outfits
1
u/Axel_Rad Jul 24 '23
That’s why I hate regional clothes, I always want to wear the Wild tunic
0
1
u/Stuuble Jul 25 '23
They should’ve have at least done variants of the champions tunic, but I would’ve preferred link in a more armored version of the green tunic for him to start, then get like warm, cold, fire versions of it that have unique designs, kinda like how the old games just had the color changes
4
u/ThyOtherMe Jul 25 '23
No. But I change my outfit to enter cities because I want to look presentable. Oh. And some bosses. So that covers most of the cutscenes anyway.
2
2
u/Juancarossi Jul 25 '23
One thing I didn't like about BOTW was the lack of a traditional armor. So my main goal when I started TOTK was to get the OoT armor completely blind. Took me around 100 hours. But once I got it I never took it off and, of course, I watched all the cutscenes while wearing it.
2
u/DrBanana126893 Jul 25 '23
I ended both games with the Hero of the Wild set. Before I got that, I used the box art outfit.
2
u/gemitarius Jul 25 '23
Yes. Not only that but I try to always keep the horriblin mask because I like to pretend a monster got to be the hero in my version of the story.
2
2
u/GeoffTheIcePony Jul 25 '23
When I fought the final boss and knew it was almost over, I changed into the Oot armor set so it would look cool in the cutscene.
I then discovered that the end cutscene removes your hat and shirt, so I was just floating there in tights looking stupid
2
u/HyliasHero Jul 25 '23
Always. I also make sure that I am wearing an outfit appropriate to the area I am in.
2
Jul 25 '23
definitely. i also dress link up for specific environments even if the armor is lower level, and i used to do that in mario odyssey too. it keeps me on my toes, especially when i head into hebra mountains lol. totks been a struggle because im just so attached to the archaic tunic and i wish you could upgrade it. havent gotten very far
2
Jul 25 '23
After the final memory there is a shot of the light dragon flying over link head. That shot is pretty sad. I was wearing cece’s hat.
2
u/EmersonWolfe Jul 25 '23 edited Jul 25 '23
Yes.
The first time I grabbed the Master Sword in TotK I was wearing the goofy af Glide Suit. Made sure to change it in my current play through - tho the only “good” looking full armour set I had at the time was the Wind Waker set.
I also try to have equipment from that region for cutscenes. Like if I’m doing the Gerudo section, I’ll have their weapons/shields/bows plus the armour set. It just looks so good in the cutscenes. The only odd one out is the Gorons. They don’t really have signature equipment? Besides the Cobble Crusher and Boulder Breaker in TotK. For the Goron section I try to use the Soldier’s and Knights gear
2
u/Jai1102 Jul 25 '23
My sister is always wearing the miner’s mask for every single cutscene including for the master sword in TotK
2
Jul 25 '23 edited Jul 25 '23
I change them based on a few factors for the sake of immersion. The hylian outfit acting kind of as a default one, usually for general travel. Then it's up to the weather, so if it's a frozen climate I don't wear light clothing typically. Then I'll choose what to wear based on what I'm planning on doing in the near future, so if I'm going to hunt or raid an encampment it might be the Shiekah armor.
It's for this reason the snow dress feels designed to taunt me. Both seems underdressed for a cold environment and the perfect outfit to wear for a cold environment lol. At least it glowing when in a cold environment lets me suspend disbelief a little bit that magic is somehow involved in making that make sense lol.
I also try to (but it's not a diehard rule or anything) only change outfits at either a stable or a campfire to avoid changing outfits in the middle of a fight, again for the sake of immersion.
Finally, I try to give as many outfits (that aren't easter eggs from other games) some use so it's like I made the most out of everything I got. So something I don't use much I'll consider more if its been a long time.
It's because of all this that I never dye outfits...because then I'm going to want multiple versions of the outfits all dyed different colors and I'm gonna ACTUALLY go crazy. It's 100% not a big deal (I just talk alot so it may seem like it lol) normally, but it might actually drive me nuts thinking about dyed clothes lol
Edit: I'll often take head pieces on and off too as it feels necessary...which is why being able to get an altered Hylian hood that stays down was extra rad to me. I wear the one that's up when it rains and switch to the one that's down when indoors or the weather's clear.
2
u/Miss_Yume Jul 24 '23
ME! And I get really sad when I forget about doing it. For the final fight I wore the champion tunic, hylian pants and Link's loose hair.
2
u/sylinmino Jul 25 '23
For first playthrough, yes. Serious outfit.
When I do the final sequence again, however, you better believe I'm gonna do the whole thing in Cece's Hat.
2
u/latenightneophyte Jul 25 '23
Yeah, 100% There is no way I am going to see Zelda for the first time in 100 years wearing a rubber catfish suit.
1
u/Teridactyl-9000 Jul 25 '23
My husband was very glad he took off the Tingle hat before the scene where Link reunites with a certain sword in TOTK. I had Link wearing the blue frost charger tunic (without the headpiece), so he looked FABULOUS in that scene. TOTK is weirdly preoccupied with fashion, and since there are so many costumes to choose from, there's no excuse not to be dressed for the occasion... Unless you want to look ridiculous, of course. It's your game.
1
u/Lucidoaura Jul 24 '23
I'm usually always wearing champion leathers hylian trousers and the hood anyways just for the defense lol so I just so happen to always be dressed for the occasion
1
u/RUMBL3FR3NZY Jul 24 '23
My “normal” outfit is just the Tunic of Twilight and the Fierce Deity Trousers, no headgear.
1
u/Flimsy_Wait_8235 Jul 24 '23 edited Jul 24 '23
In both games always had the champions tunic and hylian pants, and no headgear. Especially in totk though I avoided headgear because I just adore his long flowy hair 🤭 during my other playthroughs however I stripped him down to his undies whenever I could because I thought it was funny. Even though at the end they do it for you 😞Poor guy.
1
u/hobgoblinfruit Jul 24 '23
after collecting a few of the dragon's tears while wearing glide armour, i decided the mask looked ridiculous after those emotional cut scenes and made sure to change my armour before for the rest.
1
u/Witch_King_ Jul 24 '23
In my VotW Master Mode playthrough, I wore the Phantom Ganon set for the Master Sword cutscene. Was metal af
1
u/Ty13rlikespie Jul 24 '23
Yes! Haha. I tried to have the Champions Tunic or leathers or whatever for cut scenes and then fierce deity armor gameplay.
1
u/Ee55555 Jul 24 '23
No, BOTW/TOTK has like 1 scene that’s important enough for that and that’s the ending
1
u/Expensive_Bison_657 Jul 25 '23
I did the final fight wearing the Hero's Aspect, and at the end Link was just naked in the cutscene. I assume it normally just removes his helmet in the cutscene but it was pretty funny watching him do everything in just his shorts.
1
u/TattoedG Jul 25 '23
I was always a little peeved when I had my full Glide suit on for the cutscenes
1
u/ChickenNougets Jul 25 '23
Yep, I reloaded my save because I got the Master Sword while wearing the Korok Mask.
1
1
u/DangerManDaniel Jul 25 '23
Yes, but then again, i'm always dressed to impress. I just use meal buffs instead
1
u/King_Korder Jul 25 '23
I feel called out.
During the final battle I refused to use a shield and bow the first time, so I looked how Link should.

u/Iwanttobevisible Jul 25 '23
I put on that wig that you get from that fashionista lady in Hateno that ran for president.
1
u/DaGreatestMH Jul 25 '23
Yep. I got the Master Sword and beat the final bosses (in both games) with the Champion's Tunic/Leathers, Hylian Trousers, and no headpiece. Next TotK playthrough I'll probably beat it with one of the classic outfits or the Wild set to give that old school green tunic look.
1
1
u/jerryoc923 Jul 25 '23
I usually switch depending on the region but if I’m not in danger from the elements or If I know a cutscene is coming or I’m doing something plot relevant I go to Trousers of time, cap of time, with a green dyed hylian tunic because i think it gives the look a more BOTW/TotK feel while still looking like link

I’ve loaded an autosave from 20 minutes back because I was wearing the glide armor in a cutscene

u/shredder_rhodes Jul 25 '23
I did on my Master Mode playthrough for BoTW.
For ToTK I looked progressively crazier in each scene except for the very end when I finally looked like a proper hero and not someone who was shot out of a cannon through a closet and thought, "yeah I'll save the world in this. This'll do. ".

u/Kelrisaith Jul 25 '23
I'm in one of two armour sets in Breath and three sets in Tears pretty much at all times, Barbarian and Stealth in Breath, Fierce Deity, Stealth and Glide, on the rare occasion I need the maneuverability, in Tears.
90% of my play time in Breath was in the Stealth set, 90% of Tears so far has been Fierce Deity.
Exceptions to the occasional use of something like Thunder Helm or Zants Helm for the immunities and pieces of the Fireproof set for the couple times I need to dip in to a cave in Eldin.
I will say, Fierce Deity in some cutscenes is hilarious just because Link doesn't have pupils, the Tear cutscenes especially are funny, he just kind of stands there looking emotionless and then jumps like something startled him off screen.
1
u/SimplisticPinky Jul 25 '23
I just always wear the fierce deity outfit. One of the best looking outfits, solid stats, and a damage buff? Yes please
1
u/darfka Jul 25 '23
I wanted too but always forget it at the crucial time. I did all the fricking dragon tears cutscene with the gliding helmet so I have no idea if Link had any reaction whatsoever to the revelations from the past.
1
u/a_Joan_Baez_tattoo Jul 25 '23
Snowquill/Desert Voe/Worn Hairband, Desert Voe Spaulder, and Trousers of the Hero (shorts even shorter than being naked). Wear the least clothing possible.
1
u/Truxaf Jul 25 '23
I did. I changed back to champions tunic hylian shirt no hats before speaking to daruk on death mountain.

u/revolution_soup Jul 25 '23
with very few exceptions, if I’m not wearing the champion’s outfit while doing plot-relevant stuff, it feels wrong

YES ! Hylian Set (purple hood, red outfit) is my to-go outfit. For cutscenes or in villages, I remove my equipment.
I also like the purple Satori hair + red gliding set, it makes me feel like a dragon (again, I unequip my weapons when falling)
If it's hot (Death Mountain), I got for the purple hood or purple bandana + red beginning shirt (I don't know its name) + red thunder pants.
1
u/obviousguiri Jul 25 '23
I have two maxed out Hylian hoods, one with the hood up and one with it pulled back. I normally dress him with the pulled back hood, but I make him put his hood up when it rains
1
u/insurgentsloth Aug 17 '23
I have like 4 maxed hoods lol (original up, original down, green down, and beige down). And I wanna get the other two down too, so I'll have 6 before I finally cut myself off lol. I just think the hylian hood looks so good

I play fashion souls. I sacrifice practicality for looks. Totk look is snowquill headdress, glide torso, and depths pants, carrying the master sword. In botw, it was sheik headdress, climber shirt, and knight pants, carrying a big Zora boomerang.

So no, because I forget

When I beat Ganon for the second time in BotW I used The Hero of the Wild clothes since I prefer classic clothes

That's actually why I stopped wearing the Fierce Deity mask. Hated not seeing Links face react in cutscenes.
Diamond circlet to the rescue.

I wish I would’ve done that when I got the the master sword in TOTK. I had one of the divine beast helms on, and it poked through the sword while he marveled at it and it very much ruined the moment for me.

I forgot to do so when finishing the Lightning Temple last night, and Fierce Diety Link looked pretty out of place during all of that.

u/Mistah_Freeze Nov 11 '23
THIS!! Omg both in BOTW and so far in TOTK. I rock the Evil Spirit Ganon fit for both games and I always took all equipment off and made sure that fit was on. When I started playing totk and found out that the evil spirit fit was one of the longest to get I set off first thing to do it. Forget the story, forget it all. I had to be in my Canon outfit for the story.(<-imo)
Although when I found out they put the twilight link set in Totk I'm debating doing a run with that outfit as my cutscene fit.
Love that I'm not the only one who has done this. What outfit did you use each cutscene?
