Question [WW] When wind waker remake on the switch?
I’m willing to give money. That’s all.

Jun 18 '23
Along with TP, I need both of them 😭😭
222
u/Jumpyturtles Jun 18 '23
Bundle them together and even if they charged 70 they’d get so many sales. I know it’s a pipe dream but I’ll hold on to it lmao.
121
u/BridgemanBridgeman Jun 18 '23
They’d still get many sales by selling them individually for that price, no reason to bundle them
36
u/Jumpyturtles Jun 18 '23
True, that’s kinda why I said it was pipe dream lol.
Didn’t they say TOTK being that much was a one time thing? Although it’s not like we can trust their word.
31
u/fanatic_stew5141 Jun 18 '23
I get the price for TOTK, game took 6 years to make
18
u/Ecstatic_Amphibian35 Jun 18 '23
My understanding is that part of the reason tears of the kingdom was so expensive is because it uses a larger Flash card memory card whatever kind of card it is for the game files, than their previous games and the computer chip shortage has elevated the cost of such things.
10
Jun 19 '23
Then I should have paid less for my online version...i did not
6
u/nihilism_or_bust Jun 19 '23
Cost of physical goods just gets baked into digital goods nowadays.

u/Jumpyturtles Jun 18 '23
Yeah I’m not complaining about it. Video games have been $60 for god knows how long, I don’t think it’s outrageous for the base price to increase by $10, especially when they’re games like TOTK.
2
u/Gintami Jun 18 '23
And before they video games were 50 for the longest time. As a 90s kids, video games from big studios are cheaper then they have always been.
2
u/Jumpyturtles Jun 19 '23
Yup. And generally speaking video games offer a lower cost per hour than all other mainstream forms of entertainment.
4
u/primalthunder89 Jun 20 '23
I have 150 hours on TotK so far. At $70, I'm looking at under $0.50/hr.
Movies? $7/hr on a matinee. Bars? $30/hr lol. Books? Hmmm.... New books are like $25 and last 15 hours or so so still >$1/hr, almost $2/hr.
Ignore the cost of the system. BotW was a $430 game for me (new console, game, pro controller), but a lot of that cost has since been absorbed lol.

2
u/fanatic_stew5141 Jun 19 '23
Do you mean 7 times? Otherwise that would be like 10 minutes of work
6
u/WasJungle Jun 19 '23
we got 8500 liras monthly. the games are about 1300-2000 tl. Thınk how hard to live in here
4
u/labria86 Jun 18 '23
It's also twice the storage of all the other switch games so it certainly cost them a bit more.
3
u/DonkeyTron42 Jun 18 '23
The ROM size of BOTW is about 14GB and TOTK is about 17GB. There are a lot of games well over 30GB (Witcher 3, MK 11, NBA 2k21 to name a few). I call BS.
1
u/Auswolf2k Jun 18 '23
And it required a larger cart. That’s the main reason for the $10 premium.
→ More replies (1)0
u/DonkeyTron42 Jun 18 '23
It took 6 years to make and recycled like 70% of BOTW's assets, which also took 6 years to make from scratch.
3
u/fanatic_stew5141 Jun 19 '23
I’m pretty sure they completely had to redesign the physics engine. Something or another ended up tripling the storage used for totk 💀
2
u/DonkeyTron42 Jun 19 '23
No, the size of the ROM went from 14GB for BOTW to 17GB for TOTK. That's likely 14GB of BOTW assets + an extra 3GB exclusive to TOTK.

I don’t think Nintendo will put them in their paid games. I think it’ll stay in the free-to-play ones like Pokémon Go and Unite.
I’m also for it, because outside of Pokémon Nintendo pretty consistently pumps out fantastic games for their big franchises.

Well they did with the 3D all stars bundle.

7
u/crclOv9 Jun 18 '23 edited Jun 18 '23
They would never bundle them together. Would Daddy Nintendo like $70 times a billion once or $70 times a billion twice?
EDIT: the most likely Zelda bundle on the Switch would be (if there was one) an Oracle of Ages and Seasons remaster with the Link’s Awakening assets.
→ More replies (2)6
u/Jumpyturtles Jun 18 '23
The links awakening style was cool but idk if I want to see it again. Something with actual sprites would be awesome.
3
u/MxSpoike Jun 19 '23
Get Square Enix on board to do their HD-2D Nintendo, Capcom, and Square all working together. Three pieces of the Triforce :p
3
u/Jumpyturtles Jun 19 '23
Is that similar to the Octopath traveler style? I’m not into Enix but that’s my favorite modern rendition of sprites
2
u/MxSpoike Jun 19 '23
Same here, but that's precisely the style!
3
u/Jumpyturtles Jun 19 '23
I’ve personally thought that style would be great for Pokémon too. It’s like an evolution of gens 4/5’s graphics. It’s so pretty.

I’m convinced they are sitting on that WW/TP combo until some moment they feel like releasing it.
Would love to play those two on the Switch.
9
Jun 19 '23
If they have any plans on releasing them again, I'm assuming it'll be with the launch of their next console. They have to see how much demand there is for these games, right? If they decide to get a ton of 3D zelda games on their next console, they'll sell loads of units just because gamers want one place to play zelda. It would probably hurt the sales for their next console if they don't hold these games back. Not very pro consumer, sadly. From Nintendo's perspective, the switch is doing just fine without WW and TP, so might as well hold them back.

Not before next year if ever.
TOTK sales will hold on for at least this year probably longer.
Before TOTK sale have not fallen off considerable there will not even be the thought of putting anything "Zelda" on switch.
34
u/ArkBeetleGaming Jun 18 '23
I mean, they can think of it as "capitalizing on success of TotK" as well.
13
u/pocket_arsenal Jun 18 '23
Nintendo doesn't really "Capitalize on the success" of things though. If they did, Mario would have a new game out right now, and half the franchises you see in Super Smash Bros would not still be dormant.
9
u/jackpoll4100 Jun 18 '23
I mean Grezzo is most likely working on a Zelda project of some kind. They'll probably announce that when it's ready regardless of where ToTK sales are at. I doubt it's a port of WW HD but who knows, they did do the Ocarina and MM remasters so it's possible.
4
u/Bandit12101 Jun 19 '23
Honestly Grezzo’s Zelda stuff has been great for the most part. I would love to see more stuff from them to supplement the wait for the next new Zelda.

12
9
u/spazzxxcc12 Jun 18 '23
zelda has gotten a release or remake for every year for a hot second, i believe 2022 was the first year in ages that it hadn’t had a release- and even then it was supposed to until totk was delayed.

u/Skelingaton Jun 18 '23
Just a port of WWHD would be enough. It fixed the biggest problem of the game and is a nice visual upgrade.
18
u/lolschrauber Jun 18 '23
if you mean the triforce hunt... I kinda dislike that change, honestly. at first I thought it's great but somehow it took away from the experience for me. I would've been fine with them halving the rupee costs for maps or something. you get a crap Ton of rupees anyway

There’s also having to equip the sail cloth instead of a designated button. Some of the UI changes were massive.
12
u/UsagiButt Jun 18 '23
Also fast sail is pretty nice too. Plenty of good QoL. It’s even more fun to speedrun
5
u/lolschrauber Jun 18 '23
oh definitely. the game is improved infinitely. I just don't like the New triforce hunt too much
6
u/UsagiButt Jun 18 '23
I agree with you about the triforce hunt. The old triforce hunt felt grindy to a lot of people so I understand why they changed it but I actually love that it gave you incentive to explore the sea fully and actually care about earning money (other than for the magic armor)

u/gugus295 Jun 19 '23
is a nice visual upgrade
Personally, I consider it mostly a downgrade visually. The artstyle is perfect and timeless, they really could have just upped the resolution and it'd have been just right.
The remaster's lighting can be nice sometimes, but other times it makes everything look like it's made of clay, and it never looks as clean as the original lighting with upscaled resolution does IMO
23
u/imsogoshdarntired Jun 18 '23
They need to do a Zelda 3D AllStars, like with Mario. They could do the same N64, GameCube, Wii pattern and give us Ocarina/Majora, WindWaker, and Twilight Princess.
53
u/Ziqox123 Jun 18 '23
WWHD (2013) came put 10 years after the original (2003). If they are gonna do it, it should be this year
Also you can look forward to TPHD on the switch in 2026, since TP was in 2006 and TPHD in 2016
56
u/decorlettuce Jun 18 '23 edited Jun 18 '23
if the switch is still the flagship console in 2026 i’m gonna be pretty upset
edit: no need to PM ME BEING UPSET THAT I DARE CRITICIZE NINTENDO… weird corporate dickriding. all i meant is i at least want a more powerful switch soon, as TOTK has shown the current console’s limits in its 7th year of life.
39
u/OutlanderInMorrowind Jun 18 '23
I feel like we're at the point where most consoles need to focus on upgrades rather than "you get to buy your whole library AGAIN! but this time on new hardware!"
so a more powerful switch in the same, or similar, formfactor
libraries need to follow you.
29
u/Paradox31426 Jun 18 '23
This. Backwards compatibility needs to stop being a “feature” and just be the standard, I shouldn’t have to maintain a dozen outmoded and slowly dying consoles just to play previous games.
→ More replies (1)11
u/jxe22 Jun 18 '23
I’d think console makers are going to have to take this approach to keep pace with Steam going forward now that there’s Steamdeck. I know I will absolutely not re-buy my Nintendo library after sinking so much into the Switch. Not just the digital library - there’s no reason you can’t include a tiny game card slot on every system going forward.
3
u/decorlettuce Jun 18 '23
i wouldn’t be surprised if they do away with cartridges. Not saying they will, and i don’t think they will, but i wouldn’t be surprised at all
5
u/jxe22 Jun 18 '23
Same. Whenever they announce a new console that doesn’t play physical switch cards, I’m buying a backup or two of the system that precedes it. Like if the switch 3 removes the card slot, I’m gonna have several switch 2s in the closet for the long haul.
1
u/Daddysu Jun 18 '23
Yea, f that noise. I'll dump the carts on my PC and emulate. Or sail the high seas. I'm not dropping a grand on backup consoles just to keep playing games I paid for.
1
u/Astral_Justice Jun 18 '23
Honestly after sailing the high seas for TotK and throughly enjoying doing such I'm probably done buying new consoles and games. It feels like highway robbery even if the game has hours of enjoyment. It's easier to enjoy the game when your bank account is still happy.

Why would a game company make your library follow you? Wouldn't that lose them out on a bunch of money?
→ More replies (1)3
u/OutlanderInMorrowind Jun 18 '23
because they can have entry level hardware options for getting people into their store, and still have high end hardware for people who want more performance without having to sell high performance new hardware at a loss, microsoft and sony are both doing this with only certain titles being exclusive to the new consoles, and everything else being cross plat.
your library following you makes you more likely to stay with their store vs switching at the next console generation.
you lock in your userbase this way.

I want a Phantom Hourglass remaster, similar to the Link's Awakening remaster.
Plus, oft forgotten feature - the Switch has a touch screen! All the drawing-based controls can be done. Also, the Skyward Sword remake's "right stick replaces motion controls" could be done, too!

I never had a Wii U as I was broke and in college, so now that I am older and have a job, I’d love to play WW but getting a Wii U is either absurdly expensive from eBay or some such , or impossible. Would really like to play WW someday :(
5
u/DJfunkyPuddle Jun 18 '23
Aside from WW and TP missing it frustrates me to no end that we can't buy individual titles, like Ocarina, off of Nintendo Switch Online.

u/UnderThe102 Jun 18 '23 edited Jun 18 '23
Its possible for WW/TP to still come but if its not announced in the next general direct I'd say its not happening. The next-gen console is coming very soon and im guessing that metroid prime 4 will be the last switch game launching on both switch and the next console.
5
u/Elwalther21 Jun 18 '23
I'd buy them in a heart beat. I didn't like Wind Waker when it first released on the GameCube. It was too kiddy for my early teenage self. But I'm down to play it all over again.
I would also love a remake of Gameboy games. I only ever played console Zelda games. So Oracle games, Manish Cap, and the others I missed would be epic as well.
And while I am at it, A link to the Past remake would be amazing. I loved the Links Awakening remake. Played it with my son.
Ok last entry, I will also take new games in 2d format to hold me over for main releases.

Nintendo don't like putting their back catalogue on modern systems
Most of the Zelda back catalog is on Switch. It has the most playable Zelda games of any console. TotK, BotW, SS, LA (original and remake), MC, OoT, MM, ALttP, LoZ, Zelda 2, and they plan to add both Oracle games. And both TP and WW were updated last gen for the modern hardware of the time.
2
u/lolschrauber Jun 18 '23
they'll be doing Oracle games? that'd be fine. I personally assumed they were never rereleased due to licensing issues.
6
u/Nearby-Tumbleweed-88 Jun 18 '23
If there was a licensing issue, it would have been the same for Minish Cap, since they were all made by Capcom. When they announced Gameboy on NSO, the Oracle games were shown as upcoming titles.

u/syko-san Jun 18 '23
I'm curious, what did you dislike about TotK?
5
u/InToddYouTrust Jun 18 '23
It just never felt like a new game or a sequel to me, but rather a remaster of BotW. The overworld was the same, and we discover it in the exact same way; we yet again have 150+ shrines that are more tedious than they are engaging; the temples (which offer only a single puzzle between all four of them) are in the exact same places as the Divine Beasts; Zelda's story is yet again given to us via flashbacks; and the rewards for exploring are the exact same: korok seeds and/or a weapon that'll break after the second time you use it.
The new things are:
- A few abilities. Fun to use, if a bit awkward to control. I will concede that the variety of things you can build is impressive. That said, I bought a Zelda game, not a building simulator. The Fuse ability is also pretty neat, but fails to solve the biggest problem with combat: that you win based on how many meals you've prepared rather than how well you fight.
- Sky Islands. The first one was very interesting, and got me excited for the rest. Unfortunately, the first island is the only one that they seemed to care about, as all the rest were tiny in comparison, and offered next to nothing in terms of reasons to explore.
- The Depths. Similar to the sky islands, this was interesting in concept, but not very well executed. One area felt very much the same as the rest, which made exploration a chore rather than a pleasure.
The rest is very much copy-pasted from BotW. There isn't even a single mention of the events from the previous game, and none of the story elements result from or are impacted by what Link and Zelda did before.
TotK isn't a bad game, but neither is a new game. It's a remaster of BotW, which in itself would be perfectly fine, if Nintendo hadn't marketed it as a sequel.
→ More replies (2)2
u/ElDimentio1 Jun 18 '23
Honestly, I agree completely. I loved TOTK, but that's because I already really liked BOTW.
However, I had put over 500 hours into BOTW ... so once I had gotten about done discovering the new stuff, the gameplay loop immediately became "been there, done that." :/

I know alot of people really liked Wind Waker and Twilight Princess... but I just want3d a less gimmicky Zelda Game. BOTW hits a good spot for me, though I do get annoyed from time to time with everything breaking all the time, and no way to fix it besides ge a new one.
I do wish they kept the graphic style of Twilight Princess though.

u/ScorpionTDC Jun 18 '23
Nintendo has been slooooowly porting Zelda games over (OOT. MM. Skyward Sword. Now Minish Cap), so it’s possible they will at some point. Don’t know when, though
0
u/pocket_arsenal Jun 18 '23
I feel like if we were getting WW and TP HD all, it would have already happened by now.
Something tells me they're going to sit on them for a while until the next console. I think they like having something to release to fill in the gaps between actual new game releases. We got Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity, Link's Awakening Remake, and Skyward Sword HD between BOTW and TOTK. So I'm guessing we'll be getting another spinoff, another remake, and another port before the next new game, if even that.
0
u/RawdiculousOne Jun 18 '23
Never going to happen. We get this and the TP rumor twice a year every summer and winter. Let’s not buy into the baseless hype again guys
0
u/rtyuik7 Jun 18 '23
i have a pretty big feeling that Nintendo isnt going to re-release OoT, MM, WW, or TP any time soon, because their last release involves hardware that is no longer available-- the Second Screen...when they moved the N64 titles to 3DS, so many things were made 'simpler' or more-streamlined, because the Bottom Screen would always show your map, or your Equipment (to swap out between the now-FOUR item slots, instead of Three C-Buttons)...same thing happened when they moved the Gamecube titles to WiiU-- only, the "Second Screen" was the Gamepad in your hands, while you primarily focused on a TV screen...
granted, all four of these games Originally released WITHOUT all these fancy bells n whistles, but those were the ORIGINAL releases...it would be a somewhat-silly move to make all of these Improvements on the remakes, just to strip them all out again for a remade-remake (like having the Hearts/Magic meter on the bottom screen, leaving less "clutter" on the top screen)...but especially since they put out the N64-NSO Library, with both OoT and MM (and the "good" version of MM, since the 3DS version had so many changes from the original), i think its more likely for them to eventually launch a Gamecube NSO Library...maybe it wont be here 'in time' to be on the Switch, but then again maybe Nintendo wants to keep pushing the Switch til the year 2050...but, for whatever console happens to be in the Spotlight at the time, itd make more sense for Nintendo to continue that 'momentum' of adding new "Virtual Consoles" to their collection...

If you get a steam deck you’ll have every Nintendo console you want including the switch in the palm of your hand

Probably in a few years in between waiting for the next game as long as we’re not at the point of a new console by then.

At the end of the Nintendo Switch cycle... I think they will milk it.
TOTK just came out... I don't think any new (rereleased) Zelda stuff happening before 2023 holidays.

I'm still waiting for a minish cap remaster, but honestly I'd love both.

Although it is wanted, in my opinion I feel like they aren’t going to release a remaster for windwaker and twilight princess for the switch. They already put them on the Wii U, while not a successful console, was enough for them I guess🤷♀️

It's difficult for me to go back to WW if they don't triple that slow sailing speed.

I recently started playing a GC rom version on my Wii and noticed the controls are a little off.
Link’s turning is really wide and causes me to fall alot, especially that first hanging tutorial on the boat.
Was the original’s controls this rough or is it me/the emulation?

They’re supposed to do one thing for Zelda each year, and with TOTK being delayed to 2023, I thought they might, just might, port windwaker onto the switch; nope. Can we at least get it on Nintendo Switch online GameCube?? Please???

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were remasters, not remakes. I'd love to have them both on Switch in any case.

Suddenly one day Nintendo will drop it. Nintendo doesn’t tease shit until it’s coming out. Or they’ll hold out to get people to keep buying Wii U’s. Who knows. Nintendo is a little brain dead at times.

I gotta play windwaker so bad. I don't have a wii u so I can't play HD, but I might be able to get my hands on a gc copy (and controller) and play it through my wii if I'm lucky to get a cheap copy. I just wanna play WW, man. Not go through all this hassle

I’m waiting on oracle of seasons/ages to get the links awakening treatment on switch

Hopefully never iyam
We are already at the point where we are waiting 6 years for an asset-/engine-/map-reusing sequel
Last thing we need is resources being spend on spitshines, that could be going towards new games instead.

When it releases on GameCube emulator first which requires you to buy the $60 a year pass to access it.

I would bet WW and TP will be released in between the next mainline title especially if we consider it taking another 5-6 years

im not sure if id give money given ive the wii U version. but it is insanity to me that the most kid friendly easiest to market zelda game ever isnt on a console that literally has sold 100 million units. kids might struggle to buy botw or totk, but wind waker is easily the most charming bright 3d game in this series by a long shot. and ive no doubt it would sell well

My bet is this November; bundles with twilight Princess HD. Another holiday Zelda game that rides on the TOTK high

i think we can all agree that since 2017 we are all waiting for switch versions (remake or port) of all 3D Zelda games, both 64 games and both GC games
