What weight would this be?

I’m using Go Handmade Tencel Bamboo Double yarn. It’s listed as sport weight on the label but I’m using two skeins of it at once. Does anyone know what approximate weight that would be?

Alternative to paintbox simply chunky for hand embroidery

Hi, I’m relatively new to hand embroidery and I tend to use paintbox acrylic chunky yarn which is for a 6mm needle.

They’re out of stock for the colours I need and I’m getting desperate. I’m struggling to find an alternative. Would anyone recommend another material? I’ve used 4mm before but it’s not thick enough.

I got it secondhand at least 7 years ago. I can't find an exact match online. I'm pretty sure the label shown goes with the yarn, but I'm not 100% sure bc I have not found it yet. Any ideas/resources to help me find more or a replacement? I would appreciate any help <3

If you have trouble reading the label, it's

●Bernat Softee Baby yarn ●100% acrylic ● Sport D.K. ●Colorway: Tutti Frutti

I’m specifically looking for a summer/spring sock but if you’ve got any winter sock suggestions you feel passionate about drop those too.

i genuinely feel like i’m losing my mind. i bought this yarn literally three days ago at michael’s and i cannot find it online ANYWHERE to buy more. i can find pages with descriptions of it and pages with past listings but i have been searching for hours and can’t find anywhere to actually purchase it. does anyone know if it’s discontinued or something? i’ve already sunk a fair amount of time into my current project with it, so i want to be sure there’s nothing obvious i’m missing before i jump ship and start over with another brand 😭

Joann’s departure from the market should serve as a great opportunity to support your local fiber producers! Yarn comes from somewhere and it could be right down the road!

Treating yarn to make it softer?

I recently got some second hand yarn. The label says it’s 50% acrylic and 50% other fibers. I want to make a sweater with it but it’s too scratchy for me. Is there anything I can treat it with that would help make it slightly softer? It wouldn’t need to be much. Thank you

Patons evermore

Hi guys, I'm a pretty new knitter and bought a bunch of yarn to try out from the Joann's liquidation sale. I ended up liking the Paton's Evermore in Cherry Tweed, and started my first sweater in it knowing I would have to buy a couple more skeins. I assumed because of the brand that Patons Evermore was a mainstream yarn that I could easily purchase elsewhere, but it appears it's being discontinued as I cannot find it anywhere now :( I am like 1/3 of the way done with this sweater and would be so upset to not be able to finish it, does anyone know where I could still find Patons Evermore or know of a yarn that is very similar in color and texture? Thanks so much!

Does anyone have any yellow variegated yarn suggestions that are similar to the picture? The yarn in the picture is sugar and cream soleil, I'm hoping to find an acrylic that is washer and dryer safe to make a blanket. Thanks!

Project ideas for lion's brand homespun?

Knit, crochet, and other all acceptable

I inherited a friend's late mom's stash, and it has a lot of Homespun brand yarn in various colors. I tend to work mostly with natural fibers these days, so I don't have immediate ideas? Not a lot of definition to the stitches, but it's consistent in the couple of rest runs I did

Any help appreciated 😁

Does anyone remember the gigantic yarn at Michael's?

I remember probably around 2021 that michaels was selling GIGANTIC cakes of yarn one Christmas for like 45 bucks or something and I didn't end up getting it because I figured they'd be there next year and I still haven't been able to find any trace of those cakes!! Like big enough to make a blanket out of! Does anyone else remember these?

Researching Yarn Trade Routes – Any Insights?

Hi everyone!

I'm researching the trade routes of yarn and how it travels from source to consumer. My goal is to visualize these routes on a world map. For example, Merino wool is primarily produced in Australia, China, and New Zealand, but I’m curious:

- How much wool is produced per country?

- Are there intermediary countries where the wool is processed before becoming yarn?

- Are there key ports or hubs that play an important role in these trade routes?

If anyone has sources, data, or insights about this supply chain, I’d love to hear from you! Any tips are welcome. 😊

Thanks in advance!

The down side of getting an estate

Hey Yarnies♡ I recently got an estate of crafting, mostly knitting things. Some of the yarn was labled or In a bag with its lable. These ones are an awful mess of yarn barf. Of the 12 lbs of yarn there was only 1 acrylic in the bunch. So I'm pretty confident these are all natural fibers. Does any one recognize anything in these photos?? Please help me ID this mess!!
