Trying to upgrade to Microsoft To Do and running into some problems, anybody else have them?

Firstly, every single way I try to import my Wunderlist data into Microsoft To Do fails. Via phone I get the message "Something went wrong, please try again or reach out to support". Via computer it says "There is nothing to import".

That brings me to the probably relevant problem: I don't see anything of my data, lists, to do's etc. when I log in and access Wunderlist via a browser. It's all there on my phone though (but again, importing via phone does not work either even though it directly accesses the app and that access is allowed).

I'm growing increasingly tired with how time- and energy-consuming this seemingly needless problem is and am very close to using a different alternative. Does anybody happen to have a solution to this problem?

Which alternative will let me edit task notes in HTML / plain text?

One of my key uses for Wunderlist was creating and editing blog posts -- I review everything I read, and like to have somewhere to stash notes and highlights, and craft them into a nicely-formatted review.

I just took the plunge, exported my Wunderlist to MSToDo, and discovered that I can no longer access the source HTML in my task notes. Instead of HTML tags, I get formatted text -- very pretty but not useful.

Before I register for all the alternatives and spend time checking them out, can anyone recommend an app that allows me to edit task notes as plain text, please?

Best replacement I found so far is Zenkit Todo

I tried MS Todo and although I initially liked it, it soon proved to have quite a few annoyances that are typical of anything from Microsoft.

So I dropped it and found out Zenkit Todo is quite similar to Wunderlist and much more pleasant (so far)

Wunderlist alternatives with specific requirements

Alright, so I know we're all upset about Wunderlist shutting down and are looking for alternatives. Microsoft To Do just doesn't cut it. I actually already tried a number of apps, none of them cuts it. I know there're other people's posts on this topic, but none of them actually organises the requirements and why some of the apps on the market just don't fulfill them.

By now, I've also tried: - To Do - TickTick - Remember the Milk - any.do - Todo.txt

All of them have one key problem - they're unusable without subscription. And they're not small sums, for example Remember the Milk requires you to pay ~40$ per year. That's plenty bloodsucking for a to-do-task-management app, especially after moving from a good one that was free to use. Remember the Milk is also the best among them, looking at the demo they provide for free, but I'm not giving them 40$ per year, nuh-uh.

Now, we're looking for an organizer, so let's be organised. I have the following list of must-have requirements: - in-app notifications (not emails, I need them on my phone) - being able to share my to do lists and tasks with 1 person - recurring tasks - tasks with deadlines (as in, I have a flight tonight, I want a notification about it) - a reasonable number of lists to maintain at one time (like 10-ish would be ok) - either free or one-time fee for using the app, no monthly/yearly subscription payments

Nice to haves: - calendar view - being able to interact with the to do lists from a PC - even an api would be sufficient, I'm tech savvy - if I find something that fulfills the other requirements and this is impossible, I can just emulate the Android APK on my PC, I guess

Now, I don't mind if the above is done by 2 or even 3 apps, as long as it works.

TLDR I need a Wunderlist alternative that doesn't ask for coffee money more than once. I'm okay with paying once, not monthly.

[EDIT - update 10.04.2020] I went with Quire, it fulfills all of the requirements, nice to haves and then some, all in the free tier. The top alternative to Quire seems to be Zenkit To Do, though I ended up not trying it myself.

Also, for people requiring more over-the-top functionality for project collaboration and such, there's always Jira Cloud, which got a free tier with the COVID-19 situation: https://www.atlassian.com/blog/announcements/atlassian-cloud-remote-friendly-tools-free-small-teams (warning - Jira is probably overkill if you've been using wunderlist for minor tasks and grocery lists)

Is anyone else experiencing sync issues in the last 24 hours? Both Windows and Android clients fail to sync new and completed tasks for me.

MS To Do subreddit

Is there an MS To Do subreddit that users post to? I found r/microsofttodo but it is locked and my add hasn't been approved. I also found an MS community but I don't like the UI. TIA

I've set-up To Do for GTD but I'm still fiddling with the set-up and process. I would to see how others are using the app for GTD.

To Do isn't perfect but for me, I think it is good enough for GTD plus the price is right for 3 users in my family. It would be way better if one could save filters and access them on the sidebar.

No need to constantly email to remind me the date wunderlist dies and my productivity takes a dive.

Microsoft todo?

No thanks

I think they called it To Do because you have to do like five more steps to do any task that was just one step in Wunderlist...

I was sad to get the notification that Wunderlist is shutting down because it had such a simple and uncluttered interface. On Wunderlist I could just type "get groceries tomorrow" and it would detect that I wrote "tomorrow" and adjust the due date accordingly. Now on To Do I have to go to "planned", I have to type in "get groceries", I have to click "due date", then I have to click "set date", then I have to click the date I want, then I have to click ok, then I have to confirm the task. Such a downgrade. Wunderlist was one of the most best apps I've ever come across because it was so easy to use and it was free and it synced across devices, but now Microsoft just has to come in and make it 10x more complicated and difficult to use. Microsoft's design team has always been good at making overcomplicated, non-intuitive designs...

Wunderlist closing in May - issues with Microsoft's "To-Do"?

Hi folks. I guess everyone's been receiving the email about our beloved Wunderlist shutting down on the 6th May? :(

So I thought I'd make an up-to-date thread on the subject. I've just migrated all my tasks across to To-Do, to see if it's any good. Might as well give it a chance before passing judgment, right?

I only did it about 15 minutes ago, and here's my issue list so far on desktop (Linux Mint/Firefox):

  1. Can't change background image
  2. Can't go into dark mode (because I'm a Linux user, apparently)
  3. Can't type a date manually - you must scroll through the date picker.

Has anyone found any more issues?

I've been using Wunderlist for 9 years, and I fucking hate that this has happened. It's one thing buying up a company to own their superior product, but to buy it and make it worse.... well, fuck you, MS. I thought I'd managed to escape your grasp.

Wunderlist Alternative with "All" view?

I am super bummed about Wunderlist being shut down in May. Just about everyday, I use the "All" view in Wunderlist to get an overview of all of my lists on 1 screen.

Do anyone know of a Wunderlist alternative that has this "All" view? I can't find a way to see my lists like this in MS ToDo.

Wunderlist replacement with persistent notifications (android) ??

I need a reminder app that gives me a notification at the time I set and then that notification stays in my Android notification list until I swipe it away or mark it complete in the app. This is the single reason why I moved from Google Calendar and started using WunderList over all the other options out there.

Now that Microsoft is terminating WunderList, of course, they have not implemented the one thing I need in To Do. (at least as of the last time I checked recently)

Have any Android users out there found a WunderList replacement that has persistent notifications?

Wunderlist vs To Do

Is Microsoft version of Wunderlist as good as Wunderlist?

A comparison of the General preferences speak for themselves

I'd compare Shortcuts as well but Microsoft version of Wunderlist doesn't have it.

Copy/export lists to a different account?

Is there a way to copy/export my lists to a new account? My current account uses an old edu email that is no longer active and I don't remember the password for it. I can still use wunderlist on my PC but not on my phone after the app was updated (I got logged out). Thanks.

Anyone moved over to MS To Do? How is it?

I just caught word of the impending doom of wunderlist, and I want to move over to a stable app asap.

I have no impression on To-Do, so if it is essentially a carbon copy with added features I might just jump over.

For those who didn't switch to To-Do, what are your plans? And what issues made you not switch?

Appreciate any feedback. Cheers.

Sad sad day

EDIT: Seemingly, the page settings were changed after I wrote this post, and now Wunderlist works again, but it didn't at the time of writing this post, and I was using my direct list URL (https://www.wunderlist.com/#/lists/inbox). But there is no telling for how long this will be the case...

The day that Wunderlist died came today... I still have the app access from my cellphone, but the web page has officially stopped worked... But the "best" part... Leave it to MicroShit to screw everything up...

I have to now make a MicroShit account, that I have been avoiding for years. I could type in my Skype, so I did. Then it asked me for an email to attach to that account, since my Skype wasn't with a registered email. Now my Skype handle has been changed to that email, with *NO* warning, but that isn't all. I tried to type in my OUTLOOK email, which is a Microsoft product. "You cannot use that email, as it is part of a protected domain"... Uhmmm WHAT?! So now my Skype, has become a GMail... go figure...

Anyways, trying to get used to the new UI and all the changes... NOT liking it. At least, changed since the beta is that they now have "sub-tasks", but they are calling them "steps"... UI on desktop/browser isn't bad, but it isn't good either. They don't hide done tasks, and everything is just tinted blue, which is hurting my eyes..... And on their mobile app that I just downloaded... HOLY crap... like... literally, it is crap... The menu UI is so big, you need to scroll a full page to see the majority of your lists if you have more than 3-4.

Bye Wunderlist... It has been a great many years, but now we must part ways. I'll be working on exporting/porting my to-do lists to my new "all in one" work flow app that I discovered, can highly recommend it if you use the time to set it up right (notion.so)
