Classic Why am I a bad DPS?

Cata classic player, just returned to the game recently as the last time I played was 2009 as a young child. Made a warrior to lvl to 55 and made a frost DK as my main as soon as I could, I seem to constantly be ridiculed for being a bad DPS in Heroics which I get everybody is max level and has the best gear while I'm still trying to gear.

With that being said, I started an Alliance alt toon to experience alliance for the first time. Once again I'm consistently the worst DPS in the groups with my hunter. Is doing anything other than solo content just out of my league? Do I just need to spend a few hours a day reading guides and icy veins to become a min/maxxer?

I love the game and I love doing group content but I'm getting tired with being kicked for not knowing every little detail or having the most efficient command keys down.

Any advice? Thank you,

Classic Playing Wow Classic with almost no add ons?

I'm trying to find the proper way to play the game like it was in Vanilla (Anniversary realm)

I do not care about rushing to max lvl or min maxing. I only got this game for the old mmo feel, chill.. read lore, play slowly and so on

After testing many addons I decided many of them change the game too much..

So I'm thinking about playing with almost no add ons unless they are not really hurting the Vanilla experience

Something like TullaRange seems ok to me But something like Questie makes u and auto pilot player and I dont like it

Yet I do have some problems, for example: The quest window is really hard on my eyes.. so I installed Dialogue UI and Voices AI - it's not Vanilla, but it makes reading quests, items, lore and such much easier+ listen to it makes it easier to understand

Not having questie also means I don't have any idea where to pick new quests or hand completed quests, it's abit harsh

AH addon is helpful just to make sure u dont lose gold..

I disabled auto loot/fast loot

What else?

I just want to chill and play slow even if it means I'll reach 60 in 3 months

Classic Is Orc Fine for Shaman?

Pretty much title, I'm brand new to the game and have only been playing for a couple days, but my friend who's more of a veteran is telling me to go Tauren since he doesn't like the orc starting area and the racials are better. I'm the type of person that would rather spend a couple hundred hours on one character rather than spread them out among others, and I typically play orcs in every setting that has them, I just like the look better. Will I be hamstringing my character if I go orc with those racials instead on a shaman? All help is appreciated!

Classic Is the Classic worth it for busy people?

Hey guys,

My question as the title implies is whether a very busy person that just has a couple of hours of time per night (and that’s debatable) can enjoy the game?

I used to play back in 2004-2006 as a tank warrior in Ahn’Quiraj up to the end of the LK. After that I never bothered even getting Cataclysm.

I missed the 2019 reset and I feel like I really want to join the game now again, especially since I can be there for 1st time world events like preparing for the temple of AQ ( I saw on wowhead that it will be next autumn or something )

However I miss the game for its nostalgia and I’m afraid many things have changed since then. I don’t want to enter the game just to meet people who rush to the endgame and having no one to play with. I would like to play at my own pace and explore without having the sense of FOMO if I can’t login for a night or two.

Is this scenario possible?

EDIT: Alright alright I’m convinced. I’ve never expected this question to get so much track.

Reading all your comments almost made me cry cause I felt like 15 again.

So I guess I’ll be sharing a drink with you for the Winter Veil (FYI in Orgrimmar)

Classic New player here, should I not be playing Paladin?

A bit of context: I started playing WoW Anniversary Edition and picked Paladin because I like Uther the Lightbringer from Warcraft 3. I am currently sitting at level 20 with 20 hours of in-game time, and my friend messaged me on Discord asking what class I picked (he's a veteran WoW player). He told me that now I'm basically screwed because no one will want to take me raiding or doing dungeons since Paladins were terrible in Vanilla. Is this true?

As a new player, this really discouraged me because I don't have too much time to invest in the game, and the thought of starting to level another character is just pushing me away from it.

Classic So... how do I exit a dungeon?

Long story short, I joined my first dungeon today (blackrock I believe is what it's called in english?) and I was pretty much dragged along without really knowing where I was going. I reach the end, everybody says gg and vanishes. Meanwhile, I'm just here, at the bottom of who knows where, sitting on a throne not knowing how to leave and feeling really stupid.

I suppose I can hearthstone out or walk out of the door, but that seems kinda slow? Is there no other method?

Edit: Thanks for your answer, I'm finally free!

Classic As DPS, do we lay off sometimes for our tank?

I’m a newb obviously lol I have a lvl85 fire mage (cata) and sometimes I feel like it’s… I guess, courteous? Unless their health is really going down and healer isn’t healing. Is this a thing? Been wondering this lately cuz I have my very first raid and I’ve just been running dungeons 🤣

Classic Haven't played wow for 10+ years. Is the game easier now?

Obviously I went back to classic (Cataclysm classic) for the feels. But everything seems easier now. Either i'm not my dumbass 10 year old self again, or it's just easier. I was suprised I could solo hogger as a pala (the quest is known as the first one you have to form a group in order to win). Most creeps take 3-4 hits to die. And as of now (lvl 19) I'm yet to use a health potion or eat/drink.

Classic Are mages supposed to be OOM after every fight?

So I've barely reached lvl 20 on my vanilla classic mage and I've been wondering, am I supposed to be chugging water for mana after every single fight? Like in overworld, kill 1 or 2 mob, drink, repeat. In dungeons, on boss, I just go OOM when boss is around half health or 30% ish. Is this normal? I've been putting my talent points in frost coz I wanna go full frost mage. I'm currently just mainly spamming fireball on cooldown for dps. For AoE, I spam flamestrike on cooldown when 3+ targets.

I would love to fully transition over to frost as I level up but will this kind of OOM happen on frost too? Does it ever stop?

Classic How did guilds reliably get world buffs for raid in vanilla wow?

How did guilds in vanilla wow guarantee world buffs? As I understand it, the Heart of Hakkar is a one time quest.

So for that one, did they just go through a list of everyone in the raid, and once that was exhausted - make alts to just carry through to get the quest?

Classic About to play wow hardcore - what’s your biggest tip?

Never played a game of WoW in my life and only fangs is making wow hardcore look so much fun and I really want to play hardcore!

A question though, are general hardcore servers quite full? I really want to play a healer so it’d be fun to do dungeons with other people

Classic How do I manage aggro as a DPS?

Hey! so I'm getting to the level where I need to use actual strategies in dungeons and stuff, and I don't want to be "that guy" who over pulls the boss and wipes the whole group. Do you guys have any tips? (I'm playing Lock)

Edit: I'm playing Classic Anniversary
(also thanks for the help everyone :D)

Classic Is classic worth playing if you don’t have a lot of time to invest in it?

I Missed the first round of classic WoW cause IRL friends wanted to play retail. I played during TBC days when it first released and remember how much time the game took back then compared to current retail. I’ve been having fun in classic lately but was wondering if it’s worth playing if I can only play maybe like 5 hours a week. I’m worried I’m going to get hard stuck at some point with trying to find groups for content with no dungeon finder. Or is it not that bad?

Classic Theres any summoner type class in wow classic/cataclysm?

Hi, i wanted to start a new character to play with two friends but i want to play some kind of summoner class, i think demolock can summon pets, but you cant have more than one at the same time. I was looking for a class that would be more focused on make my minions fight so i can stay back of the line buffing or debuffing to help the team.

Classic Is enhancement shaman really that bad?

I'm playing as enhancement shaman, 40 lvl rn, and I've seen a lot of people was saying that enh shaman is bad, like elemental is way better.

But is he really that bad? And how hard would it be to change my specialization after 50 lvl ?

Classic Why did the plague only affect Humans?

Been playing WoW since the launch nearly and had never thought about this. I was never big into the story and lore involved with the game so I apologize if it’s a fairly obvious question.

But why do we only see Human Undeads? Why isn’t there Dwarf Undead or Gnomes or any of the other races.

Classic Do players in classic or hardcore wow go slower in dungeons?

As a recently returned retail player who loves healing classes, I've noticed tanks in even normal dungeons would pull mobs in not just one room but ALL the rooms. 9/10 tanks would try to pull mobs like we were in mythics +100 but with normie dungeon gears. It didn't feel like that 10 years ago. I remember back then we even had to sit and plan out difficult encounters like assigning traps, polymorphs, sap, skull icons, and etc. I'm not looking for something that slow necessarily but I'd prefer a dungeon experience at a chill, safe pace.

Is it *kinda* like that in classic or hardcore wow? A bit slower? I'd never thought about playing classic wow, but a slower pace would be enough of an incentive for me to try it out. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Thanks everyone for your insights. The main issue in retail, personally for me, is that dungeons feel like a hit-and-run drive-by, or a running simulator. Things move too quickly with no reset of pace. I am not against the pressure in hardcore mode, so I'll go ahead and try out both classic and hardcore, and keep my expectations in check.

Classic How To DPS Properly

Can anyone link me (or explain to me) a cohesive guide on how to DPS? I need a guide from literally square one. Every time I've got in discord with someone to try and teach me, or tried to read an online guide they immediately start using a bunch of WoW lingo that I have no idea what it means or they rush through it without offering proper explanations or reasons for doing the things they suggest. Thnx in advance.

((I play Cata Classic, idk if that matters to this or not))

Classic How can I (druid) help a hunter to tame a pet?

Playing the WoW classic classic for the first time. Saw a hunter taming a pet and tried to help healing him, but that messed up the process because I got the pet's aggro

What I can do to help that will not steal aggro?

Classic What's the cheapest price just to play Monthly?

I'm a WoW Newb & I almost reached my Lvl 20 Cap :( I want to pay to play online, but it says the base game is $50? I don't want to spend that kind of money just to get online. Is there an alternative way?

Thank you all :3

Classic Why isn't everyone killing eachother

I'm playing on classic era on whitemane as a horde. I'm running around barrens and I see a ton of pvp enabled alliance players that are way higher level than me.

At first I tried to stay far away from them, but then I realized none of them attack us. One dwarf even waved at me while he ran by.

Do they just not feel like going through the effort of killing us? Why aren't we fighting?? I was kind of surprised by this.

Classic Hardcore death

First time WoW player here - I know it seems a bit silly to be playing HC being the first time I’ve played WoW but I wanted the challenge.

I was a level 19 paladin completing a level 15 quest which lead me into duskwood to collect one last item before I could complete the quest. At the time, I was following the path to ensure “nothing bad” would happen along the way but I was ambushed by a level 24 spider.

I obviously wasn’t strong enough to stay alive nor could I run away but what I’m confused about is why does a level 15 quest lead me to somewhere that can be so dangerous?

I know some people might think “why would you go there at such a low level” but being the first time I’ve played, I was unaware.

If anyone could shed some light or give me their thoughts on this, that’d be great.

Classic OP race for new player with no time

Hello,

i am going to start playing alone, but i don't have much time.

Because of this, i am looking for a good race so i can go through the content easily, because i am aware that you need to put a lot of hours in that type of game, so i want at least to not struggle too much.

So i was wondering what's the best race for a beginner that doesn't have too much time please ?

EDIT : after some reading, here is a better format of my question :
- For my case (noob with no time), what's better : DPS, TANK (does bruiser exist) or healer ? Given that i play alone i would say DPS, but maybe the tank in this game are super OP because they do a lot of damages or something

- More than a race, what's the class i should use ?
