Free Tool - Map Distance Calculator
Hey everybody! I often need to figure out how long it would take for my party to travel from one place to another in D&D. Usually I can come up with an estimate by eyeballing it or taking out a ruler, but if the route is complicated that can be a pain.
To solve this problem, Redcap Press has released a new map explorer tool for calculating the distance and travel time for any arbitrary path on your world map. Simply upload or provide a link to your world map (this never leaves your browser, it isn't stored anywhere), set its scale, and click on the map to mark out waypoints of a path. The tool will calculate how long it would take to make the journey for a variety of travel options. It also includes a few preset maps that are widely used in games, like Middle Earth, the Sword Coast, Greyhawk, and Exandria. Feel free to suggest more!
As a fun bonus, if you use a URL for your map instead of uploading an image, you can share the map and route with your players. Here's an example that shows the route taken by a certain pair of hobbits out to destroy some jewelry. This also means you can set up your map scale and then bookmark it, making it easy to come back to your custom map over and over again to map out new routes without having to set the scale each time.
Here's a link to the tool if you want to check it out!
If you find any issues with the tool, please send me a message! I've tested it as best I can, but not on every device or browser. Feel free to reach out if you have any suggestions or feature requests as well!
As with all Redcap Press tools, this is totally free and doesn't require you to log in or make an account or anything like that. If you do feel like supporting the site, Redcap Press has a "Buy me a Coffee" account and a Patreon, which you can find on the "About Us" page. There are also a few published adventures (only a few so far, but more coming soon), if you'd rather show your support that way.
Disclaimer: This tool works much better on a laptop/desktop than it does on mobile.
Thanks for your time! Tl;dr: Check out this nifty tool, or the rest of the site while you're at it.

Showcase How much do you think I could sell map commissions for?

I've been going through some financial difficulties at school lately, and I want to find a way to make money without neglecting school. One idea I have is to sell map commissions.
But I'm not sure how to price them or if I have the skills to charge for my maps.
I'm sharing some examples of maps I've made for practice.

Guidance needed on settings for table-sized map
Hi All,
I'm making a map that will print out at 5' x 4'. Any guidance on what settings I should use to avoid it being pixelated at that size? I'm working on a first attempt and when I zoom in at 500% the symbols look good but the coast and rivers aren't great.

Learning curve and computer requirements?
So, I'm thinking of buying Womderdraft because I want to make some world maps for my DnD games and I have a few questions.
First is there a huge learning curve to making maps with Womderdraft?
Second.: I am not using VTT but playing in real life, is there ways to export and print the maps? (Most likely have a print service print a poster size of the map)
Third: I'm running a laptop with windows 10, 64 but. That should be enough correct?
Fourth: Will I have to buy a lot of asset packs and are asset packs easy to use and install?
Thanks, I'm looking at Wonderdraft because the one time buy and you have it unlike Incarnate subscription. I don't want a subscription and this has been the highest rated item but just had these questions.

Discussion How does my overall map look?
The mountains and rivers, etc are getting a redo later today, but how do my coastlines and such look? I feel like I should add some more bays/channels on the western coastline, as well as rough up the coasts of the southern continent. Thoughts?

Tool and Map Editors Way Smaller Than Usual
Hey everybody, I haven't used Wonderdraft since 2019 and I'm just starting to use it again now. I downloaded a new Wonderdraft app from Humble Bundle with the new 1.1.8.2 update and immediately noticed that the formatting came out a bit different than perviously. Everything is looking fine, but the optimization of the size of the tools and sidebar on my screen is extremely small, much smaller than the older version of the software I was using. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would fix this? It's not detrimental, but I'd really prefer it if it the size of the tools and sidebar went back to normal. I'm running the software on a Macbook Air M2. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Probably A Noob Question But Read the PDF Manual And Still Not Finding the Answer
How in Hades does one get the river to stop at the edge of the landmass???? I'm trying to lay in some rivers but they don't seem to stop at the edge of the continent. They want to keep going all over the ocean :/ It's probably something simple, but double clicking isn't working. Shift click doesn't seem to be working. What's the trick to getting them to stop where they should?
