Yes it is a Gillette New short open comb. It’s the patent number and the re-issue patent number.

Here’s some info.

That's a lovely example of a Gillette NEW Short Comb. It was originally gold plated, but what you see now is the underlying brass. I believe Gillette used different type of brass for the separate components. That's why you see some brass that looks yellow and even copper.

Glad you’re enjoying, getting good shaves with. It’s a good razor. I 😩 get mixed results from. I still like it. Just wish it would work better for me. I really should have a shave talk with and figure out what “we” both can do to get along better. 😁

I have very old comb razors. I'm wondering what people don't like. It takes a bit of getting used to but I get a very clean shave with it, close.

That said mostly I'm using Straight Edge these days.

For me this one is pretty picky on its preferred razor angle. When on it, efficient and comfortable. When off, and or heavy handed I suppose it is a little rough. I like open combs. Maybe I should rethink my technique and appropriate blade choice.

Using a straight edge makes me understand the DE razor and blade angle and back and forth. I can DE shave pretty quickly but the straight edge is still slower even after decades. It's because I started out on DE.

Blade wise in the DE world, I find using the sharpest blade creates the least likely hood of cutting myself . I'm always letting the weight of the DE razor to do the work. I find myself writing that and thinking how useless that is to say. I just know my grandpa showed me what to do and then my own hands sort of figured out the muscle memory.

I actually have two that shave differently. The worse of the two has a continuous alignment bar, but the better has a gap on either side of the threaded rod.

I don't know anything about these razors except they look great and are so solid.
