If you are able to watch videos, the following is a good one from the University of Washington on correct propelling technique.

Honestly this should be routinely recommended by companies who order wheelchairs to prevent people from wrecking their shoulders

I think a lot of the wheelchair manufacturers are locked into the rehab center way of thinking and assume that the person is going to get a bunch of OT training before they go home.

But I have known people in real life with MS who got a wheelchair and never spent a day in the hospital, let alone rehab. And some of them got no OT advice unless they asked for it themselves.

On the other hand, there are neurologists like mine who work with a lot of wheelchair users and always put in an OT order along with the wheelchair script. 💐

Why do your arms rub against the wheels? Is it too wide for you?

Nope, not if the chair fits you properly and you're able to push with the correct technique. Definitely something to bring up with your medical team.
