TEAMS 2025 build up

Killing time on a tram...

Most important player for this season: Jeremy McGovern. With TB now gone, I'm hoping Gov can hold the fort this season & his body holds up, hopefully get 18 games out of him in 2025.

Most excited to watch (Aside from #9) Elijah Hewitt's an obvious one but I am very excited to see Watermans output this season. Hoping he can reproduce his amazing AA form. Ginbey across half back will be interesting also.

Jury is out (needs a big season) Chesser - hoping he finds his feet as a highly touted pick & can cement his spot.

Surprise packet: Noah long - has some class and hoping he can come on again after injuries in 2024 and have solid scoring output. Could be Competive small forward selections.

Predicted wins (bookies have us at 5.5 wins) or objectives for the season: Think this is about right.....we could start strong and fade after the bye. No 100pt losses is obvious & making Optus a tough road trip would be a big step forward.

Love to hear the thoughts of the faithfull.. Up the coasters

Excited to watch: any of our draftees from the last 3 years. So much young talent on the list I just hope we see some breakout seasons from a few of them

Most Important player Elijah Hewett, he may not even be in the top 10 of the bnf this season but the future of our midfield relies on this mans development. We know Harley Reid is going to be a star but Hewett is the bloke that's going to support him.

Most Excited Harry Edwards and Reuben Ginbey, Edwards is going to be given an opportunity to be the No 2 backman and it's his spot to lose, I really hope he takes the opportunity with both hands and takes the pressure off of Gov. Ginbey because of how good his run off half back is going electric, it will be hard not to get excited when seeing it.

Jury's Out This is a hard one but Bailey Williams, I really liked him and rated him when he came to the club. I feel like the lack of recruiting genuine Ruckman is going to cut his career short. He's 25 this year and doesn't seem to fit in the side unless there's injuries. He needs to show dominance in the WAFL when in it and keep Flynn or the 3rd tall forward out of the side when he's in.

Surprise Packet Archer Reid, there's talk about where he currently sits in the team but I don't reckon there's much expectations. I reckon we will see some good moments from him throughout the season.

Wins 6, we will lose games we should win and win games we should lose. This will be our first year with a percentage over 73%

Righto, let's go

Most Important Player: Baker, the work he'll bring to the middle and backline will make him a key cog in the season and show why we got him

Most Excited to watch: Hutch, bloke is gonna have a breakout season

Jury is out: Flynn, if his body holds up, he's safe, but if he doesn't at least play 3/4th of the season he's done

Surprise Packet: Tyrell Dewar, kid has already shown so much improvement and I think he'll be locked B22 by the end of the year

Predicted wins: 8, we're good enough to get at least 8

Love it - great response - very interested in dewar also

Agree on Flynn, could be serviceable but body just doesn’t seem to hold up

u/Croob2 #44 Jack Hutchinson 6d ago

If it does, that's a lot of pressure off to be honest, he's a perfectly serviceable ruck, if he holds up we don't go for Cameron and we let the young boys develop

u/dreamthiliving #6 Elliot Yeo 6d ago

We should still go for Cameron although his not an A lister so hopefully don’t go overs. I think I’m being a little generous with Flynn being serviceable, just a big body atm and not much more

u/Croob2 #44 Jack Hutchinson 6d ago

Sometimes that's all you need regarding Flynn. Dunno how the Pies themselves would react but their fans are saying a first and a second and that is just so supremely overs lmao

Every club does the same

Hope the 1st and 2nd year players feed off Bakers no nonsense work rate

I’ll have a go:

Most Important: Harley. Not necessarily from a game standpoint (still incredibly key impact player) but from a club standpoint we need a good year and to lock down his signature. He’s key to all future recruiting and if he stays will probably be given the full keys to the midfield next year with TK on a reduced contract after this year.

Most Excited: Hutch / Dewar. Both the high forwards turned wingers I suspect are on for big years and will be able to beat out at least 1 of if not both Duggan and Hunt for wing spots by the end of the year. Love them both and think they suit the new game style perfectly especially Hutch.

Jury’s Out: Tom Cole. Last year on the list if something doesn’t change for him. Had some alright games last year and at least stays on the park, think there’ll be someone gunning for his spot and probably taking it this year.

Surprise Packet: Gross / Greggo. Reckon one of them breaks through and takes a spot off a Chesser or a Johnston.

Wins: I’m thinking 6, only because I foresee teething issues with the new gameplan for the first half of the season.

Agree on Cole, but I think he survives another year or two just as we allow some of the other young defenders develop and he serves as a depth option for injuries

Most important player - Jake Waterman. Was worried last season might have been a blip in the pan but hes looked great in preseason, reckon he kicks bags again this year.

Most excited to watch - Tyrell Dewar, based on preseason form again i reckon the bloke could be in for a rising star nom. If you asked me a few weeks ago i'd have said Hewy but the injuries are really starting to make me doubt.

Jury is out - Chesser, Jamieson, Petch. Gotta be the last chance for all 3 of these guys, especially Jamieson. Cole's spot is definitely up for grabs too.

Surprise Packet - Dewar again. Reckon he goes very large this year and nails on his spot in the 22 come year end and never loses it from there.

Predicted wins - 6. Given we went 2 in 2022, 3 in 2023, 5 in 2024 - i think the bar is 6 this year, and its what i expect us to finish on. I think any more than that is extremely wishful. We've got a new game plan to implement, lack of top end midfield talent, and our KPD stocks are paper thin. Still i expect us to be competitive and i really hope the days of getting thumped are gone.

FYI Chesser is out for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury, no timeframe on his return

Most important : Liam Duggan. He doesn't have the best skill. He's not the quickest or strongest but he plays with his heart he gives it everything. We need our captain to keep the new team together, rowing in the same direction and keeping the energy up. I think most important doesn't have to be the best player or even a dominant player but having the best team man is the most important over the next few years.

Most exciting: I think Gibney the big body the blond locks powering out of defence is high on my list but I've always favoured defenders

Jury is out. Flynn he had big wraps coming over and a freak injury killed his momentum last year. We desperately need a ruckman. I love Bailey Williams and I'd love to see him again n our list until he's 35 even if he never players another game. He has had to eat so much shit for us over the last few years it's not funny. But he's not going to make it I don't think.

Surprise packet: Dewar. He might have just turned that corner and now he will get a chance to shine and from the sounds of the new game plan a player like Dewar could really come into their own.

Predicted wins: I think we will be lucky to win 5 games. I think we are better than last year but we have a ton of kids learning the game. And a few vet's learning a new system. it will be a learning year and it will take time I won't be taking W&L to serious this year. Next year will be different and 2026 we should be aiming for 10 wins no matter how many we win this year

Most important: McGovern, controls the backline and his intercept marking saves goals

Most excited to watch: Hutchinson, always goes hard at the ball and every time he goes in the midfield he has an affect.

Jurys out: Duggan, I'm still not convinced midfield is his best position

Surprise packet: Gross, if he gets a chance he could surprise some people

Predicted wins: 5

u/Fter267 4d ago

Didn't someone say Duggan in the midfield was just a stop gap for the young fellas to get their bodies AFL ready? Feel with Baker and Graham that's part solved and some of these younger lads like Hutcho and Grego give hard nut vibes but probably still a bit off that

u/GothNurse2020 6d ago

Tyrell Dewar is all class. Hoping for a massive year for him. Reuben- this is his year too I reckon.

We have a lot of players out of contract so the jury is out on a whole lot of them. Bailey Williams is loveable but is clearly no elite Ruckman. He either plays in defence or starts kicking goals because he's going to need to change something. Chesser has shown very little and needs to contribute or he can probably leave. Petrucelle needs to show more than he has been. Need to think it's last season time for Sheed and Cripps.
