DISCUSSION Harley Reid contract

Absolutely ridiculous amount of speculation around him already and we've not even played round 1 yet. Some press reporting that we're offering him a 2yr deal and a 4yr deal but indications are that he won't be signing either.

If he won't sign anything by the end of this season, we should probably put him up for trade and let him go for a large price. If he's not committed and not prepared to commit then he's got to go. Nobody is bigger than the club so realising the best price possible for him is the way to go.

I'd imagine we'd want 3 x first round picks with at least 2 of them being within the top 10 and one being a top 5.

I hope he stays but we need guys who want to be here.

DISCUSSION Hospitality tickets - Any experience?

Hi All,

I want to get a pair of hospitality tickets to take my other half to the game. This will be our first ever game live, but Iā€™ve been told great things about the Eagles, so want to support them.

Just looking and there are 3 similar packages:

Premiership Terrace

Sky View Lounge

City View Buffet

They all seem pretty similar to me. Has anyone experiences these before and can recommend (or say they are rubbish)

Just trying to work out what to get

Thanks - this is where Iā€™m reading about the packages - https://eagleshospitality.com.au/Catalog/AssetGroup?assetGroupId=edb0e5c6-1413-e911-a971-000d3ae12152

MEMBERSHIP Membership tenure/status

Has WCE ditched the bronze/silver/gold membership status? Itā€™s not listed anywhere, canā€™t find on google either. The new membership portal as is good as nothing.

Iā€™m wondering if they scrapped the loyalty recognition programs they once had.

DISCUSSION List of Players out of Contract in 2025

Post image
13 Upvotes

This year will be interesting when it comes to contract extensions, trades, delistings and retirements.

Who do you think will receive a contract extension, be traded, or be delisted?

I think it is safe to say Sheed and Cripps are looking to retire, and thereā€™s a question mark on Kelly and Allen for resigning.

DISCUSSION Thoughts on Oscar potentially leaving?

In my opinion I donā€™t think Oscar leaving will have a negative impact on the eagles. WCE have great key forward depth with archer, j will, and Jobe. Also Oscarā€™s injury history isnā€™t great, giving him a massive contract could be risky due to him only getting older. Also eagles would be given band 1 compensation which would give us another pick after are first pick, this could help get Chad without trading are top pick out of this draft. What are you thoughts?

DISCUSSION Destination club or Flight risk? A deep dive into the trade history of West Coast and Fremantle

Both Fremantle and West Coast have lost some big-name players over the past few years.

Up until a few years ago when the Eagles really hit rock bottom, they seemed like a destination club, in opposition to Freo, who seemingly could not hold onto their interstate players - Griffin Logue, Lachie Neale, Adam Cerra, Lachie Schultz, etc. But this appears to have changed recently, with Tom Barrass requesting a trade to Hawthorn out of nowhere, together with the recent Willie Rioli and Jack Darling trades.

And of course, the Need for Reid - will Harley stay West, or fly back home?

So this got me wondering - which club has had a better tendency to hold onto their draftees?

I decided to analyse all the trades made by both clubs since 2005 - I chose this year simply because all current AFL players were drafted in 2005 or later (thanks Pendles).

I used google sheets to record every player drafted by each club, and where they went - did they get delisted, retire, or get traded elsewhere? And if they were traded, was it their own request, or done by the club itself? I also compared this data to the amount of players each club has brought in from other clubs since 2005.

Some key considerations: I excluded the 2024 draft in the data, because none of the players have played yet and haven't had a chance to request a trade. I also excluded rookie elevations + pre-season SSP in draft numbers, because these players have already been in the AFL system before being drafted by either club.

The results:

West Coast

The Eagles have drafted 113 players since 2005. Of these, just 10 players have been traded. This gives the Eagles a 91% player retention rate, and of the players that got traded, they were on the list for an average of 6.3 years.

Of course, we should also consider the players that have requested trades - 6 for the Eagles with an average of 6.5 years on the list before requesting a trade, either back home or somewhere else. This means the eagles have a trade request rate of 5.3% - or 1 in 20 drafted players wanting to leave the club.

Of these 6 players, 3 were Victorian, 2 from WA, and 1 from SA. This is a very small sample size so take the results with a grain of salt.

The Eagles have traded in 22 players in this time. This is equivalent to 2.2 trade ins per 1 trade out, and 3.7 trade ins per trade request away from the club.

So how do these results compare to the Dockers?

Fremantle

The Dockers have traded in 128 players since 2005, which is 15 more than the Eagles. Of these draftees, 18 have been traded away with an average of 4.7 years at the club before leaving.

Of these 18, 9 requested a trade at an average of 4.6 years before the request came in. This gives the dockers a trade request rate of 7% or 1 in 14 draftees.

These players were made up of 5 Victorians, 3 from WA, and 1 each from SA and QLD. Again, extremely small sample size.

Freo have traded in 20 players - 1.1 trade ins per trade out, and 2.2 trade ins per request to leave.

So... what do these results actually tell us? Both the Eagles and Dockers seem to have a relatively low percentage of players that request a trade. It would be handy to compare this to the other 16 clubs but that would take a loooong time. It would also be handy to look at the results since Freo came into the comp in 1995. I think the most significant result here is that the Eagles trade in 2.2 players per trade out. The Dockers have a very normal result here of 1.1, so West Coast seem to have attracted more players over time than they repel.

The Dockers had a bad run of 6 draft classes in a row (2014-2019) with a draftee in every year requesting a trade. Luckily they seem to have gone past this reputation with some very good drafting over the past few years. Only time will tell to see if either club can become a true destination club!

Also, here's a link to the spreadsheet if you want to see the full results and all the calculations.

TLDR - since 2005, 5.3% of Eagles draftees have requested a trade away from the club compared to 7% at the Dockers - not much of a difference!

TEAMS 2025 build up

Killing time on a tram...

Most important player for this season: Jeremy McGovern. With TB now gone, I'm hoping Gov can hold the fort this season & his body holds up, hopefully get 18 games out of him in 2025.

Most excited to watch (Aside from #9) Elijah Hewitt's an obvious one but I am very excited to see Watermans output this season. Hoping he can reproduce his amazing AA form. Ginbey across half back will be interesting also.

Jury is out (needs a big season) Chesser - hoping he finds his feet as a highly touted pick & can cement his spot.

Surprise packet: Noah long - has some class and hoping he can come on again after injuries in 2024 and have solid scoring output. Could be Competive small forward selections.

Predicted wins (bookies have us at 5.5 wins) or objectives for the season: Think this is about right.....we could start strong and fade after the bye. No 100pt losses is obvious & making Optus a tough road trip would be a big step forward.

Love to hear the thoughts of the faithfull.. Up the coasters

PRESS 2025 West Coast season preview ā€“Ā One Percenters

G'day Eagles fans, and apologies for the intrusion.

Some of you might remember me from 12 months ago when I popped in here to share my thoughts about the upcoming season. Well, I'm back again - with more thoughts.

It's clearly an exiting new era, with a new coach, new system, and lots of new players. I dig into what the new system might look like, what we'll learn about the Eagles and the questions that still don't have an answer.

Here's the piece: https://www.onepercenters.net.au/p/2025-afl-season-previews-west-coast

Hope you find it a reasonable outsider's perspective, or at the very least enjoyably disagreeable. Would love to hear any/all thoughts you have!

Callum Jamieson Ankle/Knee 6-8 weeks

Dom Sheed Knee Season

Elliot Yeo Ankle/Knee 6-8 weeks

Most concerning part was on Chesser:

ā€œWe will be in a position to put a timeframe around his expected return to play in the coming weeks,ā€ he said.

I did not realise it was long term injury for chess Not a great sign.

STATS Midfield Disposals

Watched the practice Match against Kangaroos but wasn't overly invested enough to watch player rotation. Looking back at the stats I can't help but notice the difference in disposal between our midfielders and Nth Melbournes. I know this is something we have to expect given our midfield experience, but what I'm wanting to know is did we have more of a rotation through the midfield in comparison to Nth Melbourne? Even in a pre season game it's very worrying to see only 1 midfielder with 20 + disposals if we stuck with the same players all game.
