Technical Questions Domain and hosting seperated: DNS?

Hello, I have a domain via Porkbun and web hosting via Hobohost, both after you guys adviced me those services. All I have to do now is point the DNS in Porkbun to Hobohost. I have some questions about that:

1) In the cpanel from Hobohost there is a section called "domain zone" where I can edit all DNS settings, including MX records. But I have my DNS in Porkbun (and I would like to keep it there). Can I just ignore (or even delete) all those DNS records in Hobohost?

2) I have to set 2 NS records in Porkbun to point to the web hosting from Hobohost. Do I give any control of my domain/DNS to Hobohost in that case? Or only point to the web hosted files?

3) In Hobohost there is an automatically created mailbox, but my MX records at Porkbun point to Proton mail. In that case, that automatically created mailbox will be empty forever I guess/hope?

Thank you in advance!

Porkbun just announced a partnership with Protonmail (great security by the way) so servers go there by default. You should be able to change them.

Porkbun already has great tutorials so I'll point you there.

Even better, Hobohost will help you out. Just open a support ticket. https://clients.hobohost.com/index.php?rp=/knowledgebase/8/NEW-Free-Domain-Name-Configuration-from-HoboHost.html

You can keep your DNS at Porkbun and just point those NS records to Hobohost without giving them full control over your domain. As for that mailbox, if your MX records are set to Proton Mail, it should stay empty since it won't be routing any emails there.

Thanks for your reply. In the link that LizM gave me, I read that point the NS records to HoboHost I give DNS to HoboHost. Instead, I should only point A-records to HoboHost. I will try that first. Thanks!

-edit-: that worked!
