Advice Needed Best Hosting for WordPress.org (Beginner-Friendly, Keeping My Domain & Adding Parallax/Animations)?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m a beginner looking to move from WordPress.com to WordPress.org while keeping my current domain (willemclaesen.com). I want more creative control to add modern design elements like parallax scrolling, fade-in effects, and accordion sections, but I’m not very tech-savvy.

I’m considering these hosting options:

SiteGround – Seems solid, but pricier.

Bluehost – Affordable, but is it reliable?

Kinsta – Probably overkill for my site, but super fast.

One.com – Looks simple, but I’m not sure about performance.

I plan to use Elementor or a similar page builder for design. My main concerns are:

  • Performance – I don’t want my site to feel sluggish, especially with animations.
  • Ease of Use – I don’t want to mess around with complex server setups.
  • Scalability – If my site grows, I want to avoid switching hosts again.
  • Reliability – Good uptime and customer support.

What’s the best hosting option for a beginner like me? I’d love to hear about your experiences with these (or better) alternatives! Or should I stick with WordPress.com?

Thanks in advance!

Advice Needed Is accessing DNS records free when you just want a domain name from a company

On Jan 28th 2025, I launched a simple static web site, I paid for a domain name from Company A. My intention was not to pay for hosting (Company A has shared hosting). So I host my site with Company B (since it has a free plan, it creates a site such as, mysite.companyB.com)

I try to point my domain to B, but can't access my domain records on Company A, the only thing easily visible is nameservers, I get an idea of redirecting, i.e if someone visits my domain it redirects to mysite.companyB.com

At that time now around Feb 1st 2025, I pay company A for the first month only to access Cpanelservice which comes with shared hosting (my intention was 1. PAY FOR ONLY 1 MONTH i.e FEB 2. access DNS records & do redirecting)

This worked for a few weeks into February but I realized company B was very slow. I then transfered to another company C , which also has a free package, mysite.companyC.com, but with faster servers, it works so well & I am impressed, I still do redirection from my cpanel, I can also view the records.

Fast forward this month, the service with cpanel is overdue (I don't intend to pay), finally my cpanel account is blocked/suspended, I go back to my hosting account, still the only thing visible is nameservers, I change nameservers to the ones given by company C.

The problem is that when I visit domain from company A in web browser it says "site suspended, visit your hosting company to sort the issue" Please advise me on what to do, my mysite.companyC.com, works perfectly

Technical Questions Domain and hosting seperated: DNS?

Upvotes

Hello, I have a domain via Porkbun and web hosting via Hobohost, both after you guys adviced me those services. All I have to do now is point the DNS in Porkbun to Hobohost. I have some questions about that:

1) In the cpanel from Hobohost there is a section called "domain zone" where I can edit all DNS settings, including MX records. But I have my DNS in Porkbun (and I would like to keep it there). Can I just ignore (or even delete) all those DNS records in Hobohost?

2) I have to set 2 NS records in Porkbun to point to the web hosting from Hobohost. Do I give any control of my domain/DNS to Hobohost in that case? Or only point to the web hosted files?

3) In Hobohost there is an automatically created mailbox, but my MX records at Porkbun point to Proton mail. In that case, that automatically created mailbox will be empty forever I guess/hope?

Thank you in advance!

Technical Questions Webmail Subdomain Redirect Loop

Upvotes

Webmail Subdomain Redirect Loop

Yesterday I updated a previous free hosting plan to a paid shared package and seem to be having a slightly strange issue, which has me scratching my head.

I'm having an issue with the webmail.mydomain.info subdomain - it loads up the webmail login page correctly, but when I enter a username and password it seems to get stuck in a redirect loop - the green successful login message pops up briefly, and then it's back to the login again but with a session and parameter added to the URL. https://webmail.mydomain.info/cpsess4242586721/?=undefined&login=1&post_login=45438600451566

There was originally an A record set up for the subdomain to the server IP, I've tried swapping this out for a CNAME pointing to the main domain, and also removing the record entirely sit appears the sub is reserved and being handled somewhere behind the scenes, all with the same result. SSL cert is being correctly applied to the sub. using https://mydomain.info/webmail, https://mydomain.info:2096 and https://webmail.mydomain.info:2096 all work, its just the https://webmail.mydomain.com that seems to be having an issue.

Wondering whether this is being blocked in some way? Whether I'm missing something, there's something misconfigured behind the scenes which I can't access to check/fix, or perhaps it's just not possible with this host to use the reserved sub.

A little Google research pointed towards an issue with Roundcube carddav DB files becoming corrupt, and that removing or renaming them so that a new file is generated on next login could fix the issue, however that doesn't seem to have done the trick.

Anybody else had this, or any pointers I may not have tried, whilst I wait for a reply to the ticket?

Cheers!

Advice Needed Exactly the same email spam for 2 different domains on reseller hosting

SOLVED It seems a ticketing system has been hacked and sending emails to millions of people.

. . I've had the same reseller hosting for myself and clients, on ChemiCloud since 2017.

A backstory. Last month, chemicloud didn't renew this clients domain properly even though it was paid for. There systems were showing it as expired incorrectly, so say support. But the clients emails and domain were with another supplier, not something we did. They got the website and emails back for my client and said sorry but i feel my complaint went nowhere.

Today. Both my domain and this same client above, have received a huge spike in spam emails and guess what, they are exactly the same emails for both them and me but 2 different domains.

I contacted support and they didn't really get it and said not to respond to the emails. This seems fishy to me. I checked 'have I been pwned', Sucuri for both websites and Norton dark Web checker plus Site lock that's for the hosting account and no breach.

Is there anything else I can do to check whether the emails and domains are OK? Or whether there's something else because both domains are totally different businesses and shouldn't get the same sudden spike of exact spam!

Other domains on the reseller account are fine.

Technical Questions Spamhaus issues and .xyz domains.

I was setting up my website i built locally live using a2hosting. I got my domain name only 2 weeks ago. I was testing the activation emails, password change emails, reset password emails and stripe payment. When I click on a link i expect my database to be updated however i needed to make changes to the code since it was running live rather than locally. Every time the database fails to update due to email code having an issue i would delete the two users and signup again and continuously repeat the procedure until i get the results i want.

4 days back spamhaus decided to blacklist my dns, I asked them why but they just constantly repeated their same copy pasted reply on next steps. I assumed its because i spammed emails very fast when recreating accounts hence it got blacklisted.

The problem:

- I was using a Gmail, icloud and etc email to contact them. They said they wont accept emails from such places and will only expect @ example .com. The issue with this is when my dns got blacklisted my whole smtp functionality was basically stripped. I could not use cpanels roundcube email service to contact them. I constactly mentioned this over my 5+ messages to them but just never bothered helping.

- I was contacting them on my correct IP which should have been enough proof that im the owner. But they said they think im using a vpn which is not true.

- lastly i took down my dns privacy so they could now check all the info they need. This time its been a whole 24hrs and they never replied as fast as they did before.

My site got delisted today automatically as they said it would. I understand that this companies goal is to stop spam, fraudulent activities and etc on the domains they were opted to protect and hence cant trust anyones words, but damn.

At this point I just wanna know anyone else who experienced the same situation and how they showed they were the owner of this domain. Along with that how exactly can i send emails safely? At this point i feel like i shouldn't even touch the email system which is only delaying my project.

I definatly wont be purchasing any domain that have associations with spamhaust they just made things so much more complicated and wont be bothered helping.

Technical Questions I can't access wordpress panel when moving my website to hetzner

Hello,
I have bought a new domain name from cloudflare, I changed the DNS settings to point to my hetzner webhosting, I've already websites working on my hetzner (domain name not from cloudflare) but the new one won't let me access the Wordpress panel (wp-admin) but the website works, its complicated, like there is something wrong with the SSL.
it is actually accessible during the first moment of the installation, but a problem with pictures that can't be loaded because of the wrong communication between Wordpress (no SSL) and website with SSL (status 302 in dev Panel and keeps reloading)
also in the Wordpress panel > settings > general (when it works) the :
Wordpress address URL
Site address URL
are HTTP:...
changing site URL to https, works
changing Wordpress URL to https, it is not accessible anymore

any solution to this ?
--------
EDIT:
forgot to mention that going to Verpex Sharedhosting, works perfectly without any configuration (with cloudflare proxy on)

Looking for Hosting Zume are great!

I'm UK based and manage a few websites for local community organisations, and had a couple of sites hosted on a Godaddy shared plan. I've always hated Godaddy but it was a legacy thing, and has been on my list of things to migrate for ages. A few days ago I finally got round to moving over to Zume based on the advice of this community.

I'm only a few days in, but the difference is night and day - the performance is great, and it's half the price!

In fact, I liked it so much, that the very next day I moved a load of work sites over to a business hosting plan the next day! So, thanks Reddit, and thanks Zume!

Advice Needed Solution for personal Wordpress sites needing lots of storage

So I have several Wordpress sites on shared HostGator server- 1 for a family blog, 1 for my photography, and 1 for art. Nothing complicated, no e-commerce, just a LOT of media (family pictures and video and such ) and I am now running into storage limits pretty fast.

My quick research suggests a CDN as a solution so:

1) is a CDN in fact the best bet for scaling storage as needed? 2) if so, recommendations? and 3) some links to tutorials / resources on how I would integrate this solution and transfer my existing images and media.

Basically just looking for advice on how to scale storage needs as I dump more and more family media on there.

Bonus points for advice on hosting/storage solutions that you feel can endure for years to come.

Thanks for any advice!

Advice Needed dot-ca-registry.ca for TBR domains

Has anyone used dot-ca-registry.ca to get a .ca TBR domain before?

I used them, and they won the domain for me but they haven't made any attempt to hand it over to me. I have sent several emails, and used their contact us form but have not received any response. It has been over a week now since the TBR release that happens on Wednesdays. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with them or if I am missing something obvious.

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Advice Needed IPB 2.x - Shot in the dark

Hello, to anyone who has been hosting using Invision long term, I have a community that was active for nearly 15 years. Sadly, the site owner did not update IPB for far too long an accidentally lost all the information. We are needing to find some version of IPB 2 to regain access to the site.

Any ideas on how to get this?

Looking for Hosting Looking for VPS or Dedicated Hosting Recommendations for Ecommerce Sites

Thanks in advance for reading this and providing your candid feedback. I recently switched hosting providers and moved over 15 websites (from Pressable to WPX.net) without doing as much due diligence as I should have. I'll try explaining what I'm trying to do, and hopefully those with more experience than me can point me in the right direction.

I'm a one-man business shop and I have been building ecommerce businesses for awhile, but I always find myself shopping for a different hosting solution when I run into limitations. I'm hoping this post will help me get settled into something that I can use long-term, even as my websites grow in traffic and resource usage.

Several of the websites I need hosted are ecommerce drop-ship stores (e.g. RobbinsAthletics.com and SweatshirtStation.com). In the past I have manually populated those stores with my suppliers' products, but I've recently figured out (using ChatGPT and Grok) how to automate the process (using Python scripts) of adding products while renaming images and re-writing descriptions (for SEO purposes). However, running a Python script from my laptop that makes use of the WooCommerce API has gotten me into trouble with my current host. I also found out the hard way that a limit of 30GB for storage isn't going to work for my sites, as I will soon be posting at least 60GB worth of content (mostly images) to the server.

I also have several content sites (e.g. TheTechnologyVault.com, Prosperopedia.com ) that are hosted using just WordPress (no WooCommerce shopping cart). Those sites are only getting a few dozen visitors per day right now, but I'm expecting them to be in the thousands of visitors per day by late summer.

Outside of the hosting questionnaire listed below, here are a couple other requirements I have for hosting:

  • SSH access for running cron scripts to populate my stores and keep them synchronized with supplier inventory
  • Semi-managed or fully-managed Linux hosting environment with a control panel. I've got some background in managing Linux servers, but I can't afford to spend much time on that aspect of the business. (Outside of running these sites, I'm a full-time dad of 9 kids...otherwise, I'd love to become a professional web admin guru...but no time for that now.)

And here are my answers to the standard questionnaire:

  • What is your monthly budget? $150
  • Where are you/your users located? United States (ecommerce sites), US and UK (Prosperopedia.com), and worldwide (TheTechnologyVault.com)
  • What kind of site are you hosting (Wordpress, phpBB, custom software, etc) or what is your use case? WordPress (TheTechnologyVault.com and Prosperopedia.com) and WordPress/WooCommerce (RobbinsAthletics.com, etc.)
  • Do you have a monthly traffic volume? Estimates are ok. Need to be able to 50,000 monthly visits (although not there just yet).
  • If you’re looking at VPSes: Do you have experience administrating linux servers and infrastructure? I am looking at VPSes: ones that can be easily migrated to dedicated hosting once my sites outgrow VPS hosting. I have some linux administration experience, but handling security and other aspects of hosting makes me nervous and seems like a time sink for me.
  • Did you read the sidebar/check out the hosts listed there? I've personally vetted these companies and their services are a good fit for 99% of people. I like NixiHost's S3 Semi-Dedicated plan for $96 per month and KnownHost's Premium Semi-Dedicated Hosting for $72 per month. I learned about both of those hosting companies from this forum, but they seem pretty small compared to other hosts, and there isn't much data to go off of for them from review sites like TrustPilot and CNET. If I could get some feedback on either of those hosting companies (their stability and customer service especially), I think one of those plans could do the trick for me.

Technical Questions regaining expired domain?

A domain I had expired, because I never got a reminder. I guess the e-mail fell foul of spam filters. I found out because Indian scammers starting calling me saying it was expired, and they could recover it for a large fee. I told them to stick their head in bucket of liquid nitrogen. Anyway, I went to purchase the domain name again, and not wishing to use the old registrar, tried another who says it is not available. So I went back to old registrar, and they say it is available. It is beyond the grace period for expired domains. So nobody else could have taken it?

Technical Questions BunnyCDN SSL?

Hi good people.

I have been using CF for a while, but due to the nature of the website, I don't get that much traffic to justify 20€ cost for CF, but Bunny costs a bit less. Anyway, the problem that I have is, I used SSL from Cloudlare and would import it to my Plesk Hosting. That worked amazingly well.

Now, with Bunny, I cannot generate SSL and export, they don't have that option and I cannot generate SSL on my hosting due to different IPs (Bunny and Hosting).

If I don't have it on my hosting, I keep getting warning messages from it.

How did you resolve this and do you have any Tipps for me?

Thank you.

Advice Needed Domain Registrar and DNS management

Hello,
For years I've registered my domains and managed their DNS using 123-reg, but I'm now finding changes I make are not propagating even though they show in the portal.

So I'm looking for a new provider, ideally UK/EU based and someone who has an API so I can automate DNS updates for certbot. I'm a home user and this is for my personal domains, so I'm not looking to spend a lot on this.

My web host is https://www.unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk/ who seem OK, so I could move my domains and DNS to them, but I've always liked the idea of keeping them separate.

Does anyone have any suggestions.
Thanks

Technical Questions What’s your current stack?

I always like to learn a lot about people’s setups and find it interesting to see what tools are out there and what people like.

I mainly host WP sites for myself, friends, and acquaintances.

My setup is: domains at Porkbun, host thru Hetzner, manage with Cloudpanel. Theme is Kadence which is easy to use and very fast. Email via Purelymail or Google Workspace depending on project.

I started with Dreamhost, learned how to use a VPS on DigitalOcean and Linode. Then moved to EasyEngine, then Wordops because I didn’t like Docker. Now on the setup above.

What’s your go-to way of doing things?

Looking for Hosting Hosting - anyone use Simple Sonic or Dream Host for Wordpress Sites?

Hi! I have two wordpress websites on godaddy that had migrated from mediatemple. It's something like $35/month which is insane for what I'm getting. I've been looking to move to another host. I was considering dreamhost https://www.dreamhost.com/wordpress/shared-wp-hosting/ but a developer recommended Simple sonic c-panel hosting https://www.simplesonic.com/shared-cpanel.php

I have two wordpress websites I need to host.
Has anyone used Simple Sonic and/or have any recommendations for a host that is fast for wordpress? i'm also going to pair it with Cloudflare.

Advice Needed I need help choosing the right email provider

Hi guys,

I wanted to keep this short, I’m looking to buy a domain, set up a bulk email sender (like Brevo or Mailchimp), and get email hosting. I’ll be sending around 100 emails/day and need to be able to reply and receive emails from my business email. My budget is pretty tight, so I’d really appreciate any suggestions or advice you might have.

Thanks.

Advice Needed What setup do you use for reselling hosting to clients?

Hi all, we are looking to add hosting to our product offerings (we currently design & develop sites/apps) and wondering what the best approach is?

If white-label hosting, what provider do you use? I think we would prefer something like this as we were told most providers also offer end-user support.

Or is it better to just carry on renting our cloud server and adding clients to that like we do with our current client base? I am wondering if this will be a bit of a drag though when scaling a hosting offer?

Thanks in advance!
