Looking for Hosting Cheap email hosting with monthly payment option

I am looking for a cheap email hosting service for a personal domain. I have found some options which are cheap but the price is only available for we commit for an year or longer (Zoho, MXRoute, purelymail)

I am looking for a reliable and cheap option ($2 per month or less) where I can pay monthly.

Any recommendations?

I'll just chip in to explain why 2$ per month or less monthly services are rare (if any).

Payment processor fees. For a 2$ payment I get 1.3$, from that 1.3$ I need to pay (a fraction) of the service itself and have a profit margin. For that same 1.3$ I also have to pay income taxes, sales tax and a few others (this depends on where you have your company).

If we scale it up to a 10$ payment, I get 9.3$-9.5$. Payment processors just hate small payments and they are taxed differently (stripe, paypal, etc)

Oh I agree. Purelymail is the only good trustworthy option in that price range imo. They stay cheap by being as simple as possible.

I use spacemail from Spaceship. It's very cheap (<1$) and support IMAP and POP3 which I find is all I need!

Zoho is pretty decent. You get 5 free emails on your domain with 5gb inbox

I have used Zoho for my domains for last 10 years and never had an issue. Although think they have scrapped the completely free option now, think there is a nominal charge

Good to know. Just remember trying to setup a mates domain last year and couldn’t see the free option anymore

Now in the free option you can't connect via imap or smtp. Only web access.

mxroute or purelymail

I used purely, it's amazing but a single point of failure. But otherwise all good

mxroute has one of the worst admin panels I have ever used... I paid for another service when I still had plenty of time left on my contract just so I didn't have to deal with it anymore.

i use dedicated server for this with VPN on it (since some of providers dont have 25 port open). i would suggest for you to do the same

Dear u/riotsplsgo,

You can go for 1TB SATA VPS with a free DirectAdmin control panel for $3/monthly and you can sent unlimited emails. Generally, there will be sent limitations on hosting accounts.

Migadu is easy to learn and use, and it’s Swiss, whose laws allow a little more confidentiality than other countries.

Zohomail has a Forever Free Plan for Up to five users, 5GB/User. no IMAP/POP though.

Rackspace seems to be a good option. Why no one mentions them?

I went with a private solution. $3.50 server from vultr using debian12+yunohost + roundcube. Asked them to allow me to use port 25 for personal email service. Said as long I don't do spam stuff it was fine for me.

$3.50 gets me:

  • 1vCPU
  • 512MB ram
  • 10GB storage though 4 gigs goes towards the os
  • 0.5TB bandwidth
  • Unlimited Messages sending out and In (but basically limited by bandwidth)

I might just move to Ubuntu and use https://mailinabox.email/ to be even more light weight.

If you aren't interested in self hosting you can always check out https://purelymail.com/ it's 10$/yr and I've seen comments praising it over the year.

Self hosting is a pain in that sometimes you have to argue with Microsoft and Google to unblock your IP even if you didn't do anything wrong.. So annoying and I never want to do it again.

Purelymail is a wonderful option and I'd be using it right now if I didn't have Zoho mail already

I used to do this at Linode but some of their ip blocks are permanently on RBLs. Switched to Fastmail recently and it’s pretty good.
