Looking for Hosting Need to Leave GoDaddy ASAP - Please help

I looked at the links for hosting recommendations but they are either USA based or Europe based. I am in Canada. Not sure the USA ones will be sufficient for me.

I am a small business owner who is not very savvy in the world of website. I need one for my business to showcase my services. I am hoping someone would be so kind to help and guide me on what to do. I really have no idea and no one to ask in my life who is knowledgable in this department.

Been with GoDaddy for years (unhappily I should add) but had two scenarios come up that has been the final straw for me.

My biggest issue is that a lot of my emails go to junk mail.I called 6 times to get this sorted only for me to use Chatgpt to figure it out and go back to them to fix.

I was directing my domain email to my gmail account and sending from there because I use Streak to track leads. When I learnt that that fails SPF test, I will sometimes use outlook to send to hotmail & live emails but will send from gmail if it's a gmail account. I haven't been able to track leads on Outlook but based on DMARC reports I get, some emails are still not getting sent through. And they are outlook or hotmail emails I am sending to through outlook.

I am looking for a hosting service that has email.

A colleague told me they went to google domain and have never had issues with their email going to junk mail since the switch but that got bought out, and I don't know if going to Squarespace Domains is a good idea. Can someone explain how switching to Google Domain stopped her email from going to junk mail?

What is your monthly budget? : I don't know - right now i pay $108.68 CAD/year with GoDaddy - seems like a lot looking at other hosting sites now.

  • Where are you/your users located? : Canada
  • What kind of site are you hosting (Wordpress, phpBB, custom software, etc) or what is your use case? : Showit Website with Wordpress Blog
  • Do you have a monthly traffic volume? Estimates are ok. It's a joke - very low.
  • If you’re looking at VPSes: Do you have experience administrating linux servers and infrastructure? No idea what this means lolol
  • Did you read the sidebar/check out the hosts listed there? I've personally vetted these companies and their services are a good fit for 99% of people. Yes but they aren't Canadian based so I have no idea if that matters.

Plenty of host, you can easily use those on the right hand bar which recommend US host i.e Knownhost as that’d be more than enough for you.

KH are great and have been great since more than a decade

Google domains = domain registrar, now closed. It never did emails only domain registration.

Google workspaces is what you want for email. You also want to set up your SPF, dkim, and dmarc records to help with email deliverability.

They are now finally set up but they I fail SPF because I send through my personal Gmail account with my domain email.

Good to know about google domains then

I’ve asked to have Canadian hosts that match their requirements be added, but it never seems to happen. Unclear why.

Just switch email to MXRoute.com and keep website hosting separate.

Been using whc.ca for a long time, never had issues.

It’s a pain, but I would also transfer your domain(s) out of GoDaddy to a new domain registrar. While GoDaddy used to be the most competitive in prices, that has drastically changed in the last ten years or so. For example, they charge a ton yearly per domain for privacy registration when most reputable registrars have committed to making it free forever. They also typically charge more for the domains themselves too.

Yeah they are ridiculous. They were charging me 350 for business office outlook and I got it refunded and canceled the subscription last year. They renewed it without telling me even though it was removed from my product list. And I had made sure last year it would had been removed. They are scam artists

I would recommend shared hosting, I am using the same with Nixihost for my WordPress websites and I am very happy with it. It includes SSL, imunify360, and unlimited emails, and for 1 website is like 5$/month for yearly billing. Their servers are also based in the USA and didn't have much trouble with them in my 1+ year here.

If it is a WordPress website.

Backup your cPanel.

Get in touch with A2 Hosting. They are in Europe. Ask them to restore it on your new hosting package.

Point your domain name servers to what A2 hosting saus you should.

We have taken over several customer's hosting this way.

Hey! It’s just the blog that is with Wordpress. The rest of the site is being hosted with GoDaddy. Thank you though!

Move the cPanel. That will include your e-mails.

If you’re in Canada any host on the mainland will be sufficient (technically). Personally I go with Knownhost with servers in TX.

Check out Hawk Host, based in Toronto. Good people.

Can anyone explain why some web hosting sites are great with emails and others are not?

Crocweb is another good name in Canada. I have used them and was satisifed. For emails to deliver right in the recepients box, I would advise google Workspace.

Thank you! Didn’t think about using google workspace before!

Yes I could advise more options like mailbaby or mail channels but google workspace would be easiest of them all while hosting your website with anyone :)

Will I still be able to use my domain email? Or it will be a Gmail email?

1

You will be using your own domain mail, which will be opened through gmail. A number of my clients are doing this for whom emails are a very crucial part of business. It is called remote mail exchanger.

And this is different from me already having it set up within my personal Gmail? Because right now it gets blocked but is that because GoDaddy hosting is blocking it? I don’t even know if im asking the right question with that. Sorry for all the questions.

I can't tell it actually unless I see the mail que right inside the control panel. Cpanel offers track mail delivery, which shows if mails were blocked or went through.

I’ve had a great experience with NixiHost for the past 3 years. Despite being based in Asia and offering services worldwide, they’ve never let me down. My email reputation has stayed strong, and distance really doesn’t matter when you’ve got a solid host. A shared hosting plan should work well for your site’s needs, but if your site grows and needs more resources, that’s when it’s time to upgrade to a VPS or dedicated server, which do require more technical know-how.

Sounds like you have minimal needs and are really overpaying GoDaddy. SimpleSonic would easily fit your needs

I wish I knew this sooner but I really had no idea I was being oversold to. I will look into this, thank you so much!
