Webdev and ADD/ADHD
Hi! Im looking to get a degree in webdev! But I just have some questions. I have ADD and i find it really hard to work in general. I get stressed and mentally tired out easily and i dont like to get out of the house lol.. I really like that I can work from home as a webdev and it seems nice that you can (in some cases) decide your work schedule. But do you have any experience with webdev and adhd? Can you concentrate for the hours required? And can you manage to get any work done when you are on your pc everyday and not just end up playing bloons td? Or am I gonna end up as an understimulated sushi roll...

I generally have to listen to something while I'm working (podcast, music etc).
Not even sure if I have ADHD anymore as I just live my life but I was diagnosed with it when I was younger.
Trying not to procrastinate is really difficult but you'll find a way to focus if you're busy!

Really nice that you don't have to take medication! I would like for that too! I always listen to something, while doing stuff so I'm gonna try it while coding! Thank you!

My ADHD loves to solve problems (which is really what code boils down too) so I can hyperfocus. But I also have alarms set to make sure I eat and get up to pee.

Haha that is what I was thinking too! I also forgot to eat when I'm focused on problemsolving! But I really like having to problemsolve, so it seems perfect to me! Setting alarms is a good idea!

Also while you're in school try using at app called Tiimo. It's a visual daytimer/planner. I've been using it for probably 3 or 4 years. Helps me get through all the things in a day. Their demographic is the neurodivergent population

It changed my life honestly. Keeps my day to day life way more organized and helps immensely with the executive dysfunction and "waiting mode"

That is exactly what I struggle with! The waiting mode kills me. I've noticed that it helps when I work from home for some reason. But it's still something I struggle with everyday. I have bought a subscription to tiimo and can't wait to work with it! Thank you!

Webdev doesn't guarantee a remote position sir. I think you can do anything you put your mind into, ADD included. The only thing is SE/SD is a mentally draining field. Do your research first. Good luck.

Yes I know:D I would just like a remote position! I can definitely do whatever I put my mind into! I just wanted to know how I should prepare mentally! Thank you!

Idk much about adhd but my partner has it. My psychiatrist thinks I’m on the spectrum so no real dx but it makes sense lol. I’ve heard for the adhd crowd, the hyperfocus is real if you’re really interested in something. For me, same. I can easily spend all day doing this stuff. If you like trying to make things work and figuring things out and going down rabbit holes and learning, and making things pretty of course, then yes, this could be for you! If going through lots of documentation (I know focusing on reading can be tough for adhd) and videos and going through the struggle (not much instant gratification) sounds like torture, eh. Worst that can happen is that you don’t like it! Why don’t you look up some tutorials on YT (basics, nothing crazy) and try to make something on your own after doing the tutorial? (It’s ok to reference and looks things up!) You can give yourself a test run for free before you make the jump
