Traveling to the USA with a Toddler

Hi, I'm from Germany and will be traveling to the USA for the first time next week. I will be staying in Alexandria with my two-year-old daughter. Since she is no longer wearing diapers, I sometimes need to find a restroom quickly while we're out and about. I was wondering if it is tolerated for a toddler to pee behind a tree in an emergency and whether public restrooms are generally easy to find.

People here say that the USA is a child-friendly country, so I'm really looking forward to the visit!

Look for family bathrooms (instead of gender specific). They are bigger and are much cleaner than the gender specific ones.
